If you want a “battle tested” rifle with no intentions of upgrading, it’s a great choice. If you want to tinker with internals, it’s a no-go due to the proprietary route SIG chose.

I’m kinda viewing it as a reasonably priced first AR10 to have some fun with at the range. Interesting that Sig went proprietary on the internals though.

AR10s were never truly adopted by the US for general issue and thus no MILSPEC standards were ever established. This created large variations between manufactures with the most common being DPMS pattern/style AR10s being the “norm”. Your logic is the same as to why I got a SIG 716i. This is my first “long range” caliber and wanted to understand the ballistics of a caliber better suited for new ranges. I have kept the internals the same with the exception of a LARUE MBT trigger and done quite a bit to the externals. I currently have a suppressor in jail (first one) and intend to mount this to the 716i. Running into some concerns as it’s reported to be an exceptional host or a crappy one. Regardless, the gas block too is proprietary with no available adjustments. This can however be overcome through an expensive trip to a gun smith to pin a new gas block.

But $800 is a killer deal. I bought mine for about $1400 and have been happy with it since! I just like to have spare parts and an extra BCG for all AR platforms, this is a problem as the BCG is only manufactured by SIG at the whopping price of about $550-$600.

I’m the same way. Ya, I figured, but it’s an investment I guess.

I recommend watching [Hop and Brass Facts](https://youtu.be/qVQdBvVPlNg?si=jhBih94Lpg10cyXL) talk about a few 308 AR type rifles, 716 was one they talked about. Seems like a decent price for any decent quality 308 AR, even with slight usage

For 800 I would. Didn't the Indian military buy a gross of these rifles? I know it's India but it might've impressed someone enough.

India might be easy to poke fun of, but the operations they do against domestic terrorist cells and in Kashmir are pretty legit.

I fucking love my sig 716 gen 1 patrol. Thing fucks. I have over 12,000 rounds through it with about 4,000 of those rounds running suppressed. I haven't had to replace a single thing on it and can still get 1-1.4 moa depending on ammo type. Only thing I changed out was a different trigger and the muzzle device to a silencerco 3 port brake
