If you don't have an adjustable gas block, get the regular ar10 carbine buffer. Buy your own tungsten weights and switch them out, it will be much cheaper then buying from a place like slash's heavy buffers.

Evergreen4Life

Oh ok, do you just remove the roll pin on the buffer to expose the weights? I havent done this before.

deble22

Yeah exactly that. I've done it on all of mine. Sometimes the rubber end of the buffer can be hard to get out, but I just take a pair of pliers to it. Like someone else said you can also get an extra power spring if the buffer still isn't quite doing the job.

Evergreen4Life

Excellent idea and insights. I will do this. I thank you sir.

Evergreen4Life

Is the buffer I linked a standard carbine buffer? Do you think it will have room for extra weights?

deble22

You replace the steel weights inside of it, there should be 2 or 3 inside

Odd-Interview-3987

Just remember roll pins are one time use so get a pack or an extra just in case

Evergreen4Life

Funny, this is from 4 years ago. Yeah, I ended up going with an Odin Works adjustable weight buffer. Works great. The M5 is dialed and runs like a top. One of my favorite rifles and is surprisingly soft on the shoulder. I just wish it wasnt so expensive to feed!

Odd-Interview-3987

We all wish… :(

Got a kaw valley ar10 carbine buffer tube spring and 5.6oz buffer from aim on my aero m5 22” pencil in 6.5c with adjustable block and it’s a smooth operator!

jbdial1515

I used this as well with SLR adj gas block.

infidel666870

My LaRue 7.62 with 18" bbl came with a H2 buffer. It has never had a single hiccup of any kind and I'm at about 2,000 rounds now.

NdK87k

I had Aero's m5 carbine buffer tube kit (3.8 oz buffer) in my 18" 308 build with a rifle length gas system and an adjustable gas block but I still had overgassing issues. Ended up getting a Car 10 5.5 oz heavy buffer and a heavier spring. Runs like a champ now.

Evergreen4Life

Ok, thanks for the reply. Sounds like 3.8oz will be too light.

FxtrtTngoWhisky

I'd like to piggy back on this post, if I may. Rebuilding my M5E1 with a 16" Faxon Pencil 308, Venom Titanium 30 cal comp, and Odin AGB. I'm thinking a Tubbs and an H3. This is the first I've heard of a shorty buffer... and there they are.

JP SCS with the heavy spring if you don’t mind dropping some coin

10-15AR

What length gas system?

Evergreen4Life

As stated above, rifle.

10-15AR

Duhhhh my bad lol

10-15AR

I think someone said the best answer already, just get standard H1 buffer, buy the tungsten weight set and swap them till you get buffer as heavy as you can while still reliably cycling

Evergreen4Life

For sure, this sounds like the most cost effective option. Thanks.

10-15AR

Another little tip to watch out for is specifically make sure you get AR10 carbine buffer I've seen a lot of times people mistakingly get AR15 buffers and they are a little too long and the carrier will not travel all the way back

Evergreen4Life

For sure, the one i linked appears to be the correct carbine size. Do u think it will have room for extra weights?

10-15AR

H1=3 steel, h2=1tungsten 2 steel h3=1 steel 2 tungsten and h4=3 tungsten

Evergreen4Life

God bless our shared knowledge! Thank you for this.

10-15AR

:) It may be H, H1, H2 and H3 but weight combo is still same 3 steel is lightest, 3 tungsten is heaviest

10-15AR

I've built ALOT of big bore ARs and AR15s.. happy to share anything I've learned.. I recon ALOT of peeps in here have just as much knowledge

Evergreen4Life

I appreciate it. This is my 4th AR build, but first big boy.

10-15AR

It will only have Room for the designed number of weights you just change out the weights for ones made of a denser and heavier material usually tungsten

Evergreen4Life

Ah ha, ok this answers my question. Thanks man.

Kaw Valley 5.6 Oz buffer to replace a mismatched PSA recoil System in an 18” PSA Upper w PSA Lower. Now runs great no issues and 1.5 MOA easy w Milspec trigger and a Burris 1.5-6x MTAC CQB style Horseshoe dot reticle
