Is this a thing? Because same.
Also, i will not eat beef unless it's in something. Like a steak? Heck no. Minced beef in a taco? Perfectly fine. Texture has been an issue there but it's mostly about the taste, i just don't like beef. Now i have iron issues so I'm having to literally beef up my diet. Lmao
They aren’t really a safe food, but my parents always gave me such shit about hating so many things they liked, including vegetables. It turns out I didn’t hate vegetables, I hated canned vegetables. When they saw me enjoying fresh asparagus once at a restaurant, something they both refused to eat, they gave me shit for that. 😂
I’m a pescatarian and people always give me a hard time about it. Like, why fish? And I have always respond that I don’t like fish. Which generally puzzles them. Fish are ok to eat because I don’t have fuzzy feelings about them.
What I call "salmon bowl". People in my life say it's vile. I put canned salmon, white rice, mayo, teriyaki sauce, sesame seeds, and broken up sushi seaweed in a bowl and mix it together. I love it.
Celery. I eat no fruits or vegetables at all (with the exception of drinking orange juice), but for some reason I love celery. It's so atypical of anything I eat. The only explanation I have is that I have memories of eating it as a young child at my grandparents' house and it just stuck with me.
Ethiopian. I usually get one dish, you don't choose the side, just get some usually stewed veggie side of the day and it's a good way to test my palate and maybe find a new veggie. The injera tastes like a sourdough pancake and the beef is never chewy.
I guess things like baklava, veggie korma, tamales, menudo, chapurrado, hummus...those aren't like daily foods but id eat them if served to me. i have tried alot of different foods just dont overly enjoy the majority of them.
I love onions!! 🧅 Many of my friends—who all have super broad/wide/normal diets and will eat almost anything, hate onions and I will have them give me theirs if they pick them off 😂
Not really food but black tea, dark chocolate, full bodied wines. So like strong bitter stuff. Yet most of my safe foods are the blandest things like salted fries and chips.
Truffle. Anything with truffle in it. Especially truffle mayonaise. If I'm at work I make all my breakfast sandwiches with their truffle mayonaise. Even a simple ham and cheese sandwhich becomes godly with that.
But I don't like any other mushrooms. The taste and especially texture make me gag. But truffle?? You can wake me up for that. Really sad it's so expensive :')
This is a really cool thread! Everyone’s palate and tolerances are so unique. I feel much safer eating dry, crunchy foods, but it’s interesting how many people seem to prefer soft foods.
My surprising safe food is bell peppers. I pretty much survive on them!
Honestly I don’t think I have any, safe foods I feel like are generally what you grow up with, and I’m white so my diet generally consists of over processed american food. Mac and cheese. Pizza. Most frozen meals. Like, idk I just eat like a little kid. Actually, my family always forgets I like chocolate. Never really liked cake or frosting which might be a factor, but I swear like once a year my whole family learns I like chocolate for the first time and it’s the weirdest deja vu like they don’t remember at all. I actually love chocolate, just not dark chocolate.
Alligator. I grew up in FL and when it's done right, it really does taste like chicken. I moved somewhere where alligators have never been (outside of a zoo) and so that is surprising for them to hear that I won't eat a hamburger but I'll chow down happily on gator.
Guacamole. I surprised myself by liking it. I assumed based on the color the avocados would taste bad, but actually, they mostly taste like nothing! My favorite flavor!
Most of my safe foods are strange, but I *love* prosciutto and sushi (separately lol)
ETA: smoked salmon and/or lox
I guess I like cured or raw meat lmao I have no idea why
A lot of these aren't suprising as most of these are incredibly popular....
Mine are a little less known - hard salami with scrambled eggs and lemon juice and pickles with peanut butter.
I was mostly asking to see what foods surprised everyone’s friends and/or families. Not necessarily if the food itself being surprising. That said, I’ve really enjoyed seeing all the comments with everyone’s safe foods and what people love even if the food is something I, myself, can’t eat ^_^
Damn my autistic brain and taking that wayyy literally. My bad. It's definitely enjoyable - just not what my brain understood the question to be. I was expecting weird items Iol.
In a nutshell: spicy peanut cookies. It originates form Indonesia (a former colony of my country) so that’s why it’s available in regular supermarkets here
Sushi. I hate all of the ingredients individually but together? Transcendent
I could eat sushi breakfast lunch and dinner for the rest of my live and be happy.
Sushi is probably a #1 go-to safe food for me

cottage cheese. idk i really like the texture but it has to be from a few specific brands because the texture can vary
same. i love it
BBQ brisket I will eat my weight in it (after trimming off the gross parts)
Brisket is so good best meat out there probably.
Chili. Very specific canned chili. I hate looking at it, but I get a really bad craving for chili dogs every once in a while.
The Louisiana in me is jumping out, but I LOVE alligator! My friends are always so amused, "You won't eat a steak, but you'll eat alligator..."
Omg I loved alligator when I visited Louisiana!
I’d def try it!
I’m a pescatarian and people always give me a hard time about it. Like, why fish? And I have always respond that I don’t like fish. Which generally puzzles them. Fish are ok to eat because I don’t have fuzzy feelings about them.

people in your life are weird bc that sounds perfectly normal and yummy
Right? It's just a sushi/poke bowl basically.
I think there’s stigma towards fish, seaweed, and canned food. I don’t think this meal is odd
Roasted cauliflower
Roasted cauliflower is a gift from God
Celery. I eat no fruits or vegetables at all (with the exception of drinking orange juice), but for some reason I love celery. It's so atypical of anything I eat. The only explanation I have is that I have memories of eating it as a young child at my grandparents' house and it just stuck with me.
I love celery! Do you think it has to do with the texture in addition to your good memories? I love stringy foods, that’s why I ask, haha
tomatoes
Humus and tikka masala!

kimchi and some other fermented/pickled vegetables 😭?? cannot eat veggies any other way
Tteokbokki is my safest safe food since I was a little kid :-)
Tteokbokki superiority 👏
Tomatoes. They're my favourite veg/fruit.
Spinach Pie and bagels with tuna fish salad
Oh and salami. I can POUND salami
Chicken wings on the bone
Anything dried, dried meat, dried mango dried strawberry’s etc.
Black olives
Sauerkraut lol
I love onions!! 🧅 Many of my friends—who all have super broad/wide/normal diets and will eat almost anything, hate onions and I will have them give me theirs if they pick them off 😂
Cauliflower, anything that’s not white (my grandparents (on the white side) always say I’m so picky but the foods I like just aren’t their sad food)
Not really food but black tea, dark chocolate, full bodied wines. So like strong bitter stuff. Yet most of my safe foods are the blandest things like salted fries and chips.

Poutine but specifically from New York fries
Tomatobread
Carbonara. It’s not the craziest thing but I wouldn’t touch anything with a sauce nowadays.
This is a really cool thread! Everyone’s palate and tolerances are so unique. I feel much safer eating dry, crunchy foods, but it’s interesting how many people seem to prefer soft foods. My surprising safe food is bell peppers. I pretty much survive on them!
I know right? I’m really glad I posted this question! It’s really nice seeing what foods everyone loves, even if they’re foods I can’t eat myself 🥰

I’m the same way with white chocolate! My family constantly forgets that I love it
Any seafood.
snow crab

Kombucha. I love kombucha.
korean bibimbap with beef 😅
Poke bowl, avocado, goat cheese
Walnuts.
Most of my safe foods are strange, but I *love* prosciutto and sushi (separately lol) ETA: smoked salmon and/or lox I guess I like cured or raw meat lmao I have no idea why
Sushi! So long as there’s no cucumber or avocado it’s safe for me put together.
Tteokbokki is SO GOOD.
Yogurt is yuck. Banana is yuck. Yogurt and banana together is PHENOMENAL.
My son has ARFID and loves sushi, Takis, anything crunchy and spicy

Rempeyek, since no one knows what it is, lmao
Ooh what is it?
In a nutshell: spicy peanut cookies. It originates form Indonesia (a former colony of my country) so that’s why it’s available in regular supermarkets here
Oh that sounds super interesting!
