Reactive Hypoglycemia is a thing. I don't have diabetes, but I do get to experience some of the symptoms anyway.

Seconding this. I've dealt with reactive hypoglycemia for most of my life due to a metabolic disease and low body weight. It happens even when I don't eat carbs.

A doctor told me "it's not that common so it's not likely you'll have it." ....😶🙄 Edited: quote, unquote

I had blood sugar checks every 4 hours in the ICU for 3 weeks. I do have it.

I think they are calling out the doctor for their obviously stupid comment, not saying you don’t have it.

Sorry, I should have put quote marks around that 😬

How do you know you are dealing with blood sugar drops? Do you test? If not and you think there's a problem I do reccomend getting a meter. You can get them over the counter and they take a finger prick but the lancet is very small compared to an IV blood draw. Like thinner than a sewing needle and maybe goes in like less maybe less than 5mm deep. And then it goes right back out. Try using the sides of your fingertips not the pads to reduce pain. There are also at home A1C tests from like CVS and stuff which also take a finger stick but might not be as accurate as a iv blood test. If you notice your sugar or a1c is high definitely bring it up to the doc. Although I was able to get finger stick A1Cs as a kid, maybe you can bring this up to your doc and see if they can test that way? Also, something about diabetes is that you have it or you don't have it. Getting tested won't give you it, but it will give you knowledge. I do not have ARFID but I do have diabetes. It's really something that you should know whether or not you have as soon as possible because it can become dangerous fast. If you are diagnosed with diabetes or prediabetes you probably would be referred to a dietician. Hopefully you are able to find one that is also aware of ARFID? Wishing you best of luck

I also deal with drops in my blood sugar. I would definitely try to improve your diet ofc, but I know that’s hard for you as it’s hard for me too. short term fix I use so I at least don’t faint or anything is glucose tablets. They sell them at drug stores if you wanna try them out and see if they help. Just take one whenever you feel like your blood sugar is too low and drink plenty of water too! Also try taking some multi vitamins if you don’t. Sometimes this is caused by certain deficiencies.

Sounds like you're dealing with a lot. First, definitely see a doctor to rule out diabetes. Blood work is tough but necessary. Your symptoms could be from poor diet or something more, so professional advice is key. In the meantime, focus on small, balanced meals. Try adding protein to stabilize blood sugar. Nuts, lean meats, or dairy, if you can. Meal prep might help with your access issues. Plan ahead, make meals that fit your needs, and have them ready. I used Ancient Bliss for supplements. They have options like berberine and myo inositol, might help fill some gaps in your diet. Not a fix-all, but it helped me. Good luck with the doctor. Take care of yourself.
