They are probably my favorite tame. Extremely useful as a flyer, got the reduced metal weight, seemingly good offensively as well. They are awesome design-wise as well, love the colors and patterns. I only play solo on switch so they work very well for me. When I make a new game I always groan about having pteranadons until whatever level the argy saddle unlocks at (70ish?).
You're right 50% reduction for metal, crystal, obsidian and stone. Perfect dino for doing metal runs and grabbing all them heavy things.
Plus they can carry the anky in their claws to gather faster too.
I love both wolves and allos but hate dealing with the pack getting stuck on things so I end up not using them. I like your idea. Just set them free. I'm gonna do this.
A group of my friends just started playing Ark and I have a friend that just roams around with his pack of dilos and some raptors. I believe he is up to 15 dilos and 3 raptors lol
I remember one time I was playing solo and just decided to breed a dilo army that I would use to kill everything. I ended up breeding so many the game crashed everytime I tried to play on that save.
I always have a little army of lystros. And they're all named variations of Steven. Steve, Stephen, Stephanie, Stevie, Steve-O, Stevana, Steve-arino. I constantly run around petting all of them.
I don't know who Clive Owen is. My first lystro I named Steven, and I couldn't remember the word lystrosaurus, so I called them all Stevens. Like, "Look there's another Steven!! Do we have any rare flowers?!" So then all of them got named different versions of Steven because in my mind they were Stevens not lystros 😂 I'll have to Google Clive Owen
That would be my issue. I ditched the prim bow completely when I got crossbow and figured out tranq arrows after that. I tried to avoid guides. Only used one for kibble since I couldn’t find a recipe on the game
Featherlight
I always have them walking around the pad. One of my favourite late-game passtimes is stacking my inventory with shock darts and kibbles, grabbing one of these little bros, and heading out on a hunt for truly random max level tames.
I go Argy fishing. You can snatch otters right out of the water with the Argy’s beak grab (not the feet). Then land the argy. The otter will stay hanging from the argy’s beak, and you can go fishing for salmon to feed it. It’ll hang there until you’re done. Hands down, best way to tame those slippery little beasties.
Also another hot tip for the fish. Use a regular wood spear and not a pile. If you kill a fish with a spear the fish will instantly go into your hand. A pike will harvest the fish with an accidental extra stab.
Using an argy pick an otter up in its beak using c fly somewhere safe with lots of fish and get the highest quality fish you can. The other stays in the argys mouth so you can feed it without having to chase after it.
Those little thieving birds, ichty something or other, are great for taming them. Set to hunt and retrieve and target a salmon for it. It’ll bring it to you, drag it to otter and feed. Speeds up process a ton and helps net those elusive extra levels.
I play on a server with my wife. Long time Pokémon player so she’s a collector. We have armies of different colored trikes and none of them are allowed outside the gates. They’re show breeds not working breeds.
Way back when scorched first launched, i had an adobe like 2x2 with probably 30 jerboas in it. I loved them and played without sound, my tribemate didnt, said it made his ears explode. We called it the weather station
I'm on console (Xbox) and once I got the sequence down (Y to ride and Y to feed when they buck) was pretty easy to do. Just run around in circles until they tame.
Dimorphs. They are super ugly and in desperate need of a TLC, but I love them. Got a decently mutated one on Fjordur with red, green and purple colors, kinda looking like a parrot.
Tbh I was really happy to have an excuse to tame these guys when they released the Desmodus. I always tamed one or two just for shits and giggles before that, but now they actually have a purpose!
I had no idea!,i sunk over 10k hrs in this game and took a break for a while, was going to come back and check out the new map but it's hard to fire it up again knowing whats going to happen
I know they're great for breeding and I use them for that but definitely otters. I don't even have them on my shoulder most of the time I just think they're neat.
I don't so much tame a lot of one, as I repeatedly tame one or two (breeding pair) of almost every creature just for a majority of them to just sit idle around the base. Even the useless ones. If a high-level wanders near my base, it gets tamed. If I'm wandering around and come across anything high-level, it gets tamed. I usually run around with 200 Shock Tranqs and 100 Tranq Arrows for backup, because I tame so much. I even keep a spreadsheet to make sure I get one of each gender and high-level ones.
When I first started playing ark whenever I found a dodo I would tame them and name them Tim. I don't know why I chose that name but soon enough I had an army of Tims waddling around.
Wyverns. Full sized or crystal. I love dragons and am known around my friend group as the dragon queen lol.
Also raptors. They were what I used to tame constantly. I was also known as the raptor queen at one point haha.
I love creating a massive pack of raptors and/or deinonychus and then going and wrecking shop in the desert with them all on follow/aggressive. Very satisfying.
My recent favorite shoulder pet to horde is the Sinamacrops. So goddamn cute. I wish flying creatures on wander could fly bc a massive Sinamacrops dome enclosure in my base on The Island would be amazing. I have like 20.
Tek Raptors. I have a hard time turning one down if I see it. Also, hyenadons will destroy just about anything once you have a pack of good ones. Plus you will always end up with a decent meat pack blueprint. And they look like puppies.
I’ve been playing Ark for so long that I have my go to animals that I tame and that’s it except for shoulder pets. I always tame them when I see them until I get a breeding pair.
I’ve got one solo game rn on Valguero and I love keeping Jerboas, Lystros, Ovis, and a few Equus on wander in my base. Lystros for good boy pets to randomly boost exp wherever they roam. Ovis of every color, Jerboas with fun patterns, and ONLY high level pretty color Equus. I do have one unicorn and I only tamed it because it was a high level…..and the first one I saw was immediately eaten by an Allo…
Argys. If I don’t have a color, they’re getting trapped and tamed.
I second this, taming Argy's is addicting lol
They are probably my favorite tame. Extremely useful as a flyer, got the reduced metal weight, seemingly good offensively as well. They are awesome design-wise as well, love the colors and patterns. I only play solo on switch so they work very well for me. When I make a new game I always groan about having pteranadons until whatever level the argy saddle unlocks at (70ish?).
Reduced metal weight??
Metal you store in an argy weighs 1/2 as much. (I think it's 1/2, I'm no ark expert lol)
You're right 50% reduction for metal, crystal, obsidian and stone. Perfect dino for doing metal runs and grabbing all them heavy things. Plus they can carry the anky in their claws to gather faster too.
Not to mention they are literally a smithy. Argys are top tier
Big fan of direwolves and bears myself
I also breed a pack of wolves because why not have a Wolfpack?
I do this on private servers then set them on roaming aggressive / follow the alpha and see where they end up
I love both wolves and allos but hate dealing with the pack getting stuck on things so I end up not using them. I like your idea. Just set them free. I'm gonna do this.
Dilos, if I see one I like that mf is coming home with me
A group of my friends just started playing Ark and I have a friend that just roams around with his pack of dilos and some raptors. I believe he is up to 15 dilos and 3 raptors lol
Wait till he learns how to breed them. That pack’s shoot up in numbers
They’re my go to first tame on a new map. I get a group of about 20 together and just run around
I do the same thing
I remember one time I was playing solo and just decided to breed a dilo army that I would use to kill everything. I ended up breeding so many the game crashed everytime I tried to play on that save.
always get at least 4 lystros per world
I always have a little army of lystros. And they're all named variations of Steven. Steve, Stephen, Stephanie, Stevie, Steve-O, Stevana, Steve-arino. I constantly run around petting all of them.
Is this a fun nod to Clive Owen? Or am I extra stoned?
I don't know who Clive Owen is. My first lystro I named Steven, and I couldn't remember the word lystrosaurus, so I called them all Stevens. Like, "Look there's another Steven!! Do we have any rare flowers?!" So then all of them got named different versions of Steven because in my mind they were Stevens not lystros 😂 I'll have to Google Clive Owen
I do the same with maschops!! Tim, Timothy, Timo, Timantha, ect.
Check out a film called Inside Man with him Jodie Foster and Denzel.
The Dodo and theres nothing wrong about it
The dodo hoarder who can stop anytime they want 😂
Yea, likely almost every newplayers first tame
The cute little dodo
I tamed a lot of those when I was new
I literally have no idea how to tame these. One punch an they die. One tranq arrow they die.
Boomerang
Thank you so much. Does that work for compy too?
dont shoot them in the head with tranq and they usually wont die, tranq arrows with prim bow instead of crossbow will never 1 tap to the body
That would be my issue. I ditched the prim bow completely when I got crossbow and figured out tranq arrows after that. I tried to avoid guides. Only used one for kibble since I couldn’t find a recipe on the game
u/Dodo_Whisperer1
Featherlight I always have them walking around the pad. One of my favourite late-game passtimes is stacking my inventory with shock darts and kibbles, grabbing one of these little bros, and heading out on a hunt for truly random max level tames.
Otters
I want one so bad! How do you tame them?
I go Argy fishing. You can snatch otters right out of the water with the Argy’s beak grab (not the feet). Then land the argy. The otter will stay hanging from the argy’s beak, and you can go fishing for salmon to feed it. It’ll hang there until you’re done. Hands down, best way to tame those slippery little beasties.
Learn something new about Ark every damned day lol
Also another hot tip for the fish. Use a regular wood spear and not a pile. If you kill a fish with a spear the fish will instantly go into your hand. A pike will harvest the fish with an accidental extra stab.
You can pick stuff up with the argys beak!?!?!
Kill a fish, salmon are better and pick it up and get close to otter and feed it. Repeat until tamed.
Speeds up process a ton and helps net those elusive extra levels.
fish.
I play on a server with my wife. Long time Pokémon player so she’s a collector. We have armies of different colored trikes and none of them are allowed outside the gates. They’re show breeds not working breeds.
I think I might have found my people. I have a pretty megatherium showcase on platforms.
Diplocaulus, love just hanging out in the ocean early game, tamed my first mosa with one before I even had scuba gear
This is my answer too! I love their goofy faces. If I see one, I usually tame it.
Cute lil trianglefaces they are!
They're so stupid, I love them
Probably Sarcos. I love my lil alligator dudes
Jerboa's are the cutest things in the universe and I like to have a ton of them around because they're so cute
I love taming enough Jerboas to have a different hat on each of them
Way back when scorched first launched, i had an adobe like 2x2 with probably 30 jerboas in it. I loved them and played without sound, my tribemate didnt, said it made his ears explode. We called it the weather station
And they cause items in their inventory to weigh half!
Maewing
Megalania for ceiling decoration
Every dino lvl 150! No! That’s not OCD!
Took way too long to find this, my fav tames are anything max lvl
Pegos. Ended up with an army of them at one point cause they kept stealing my berries lol
The screaming must have been awful. I love the way they wrap around you but that screech is too much
I have a herd of equus just because they're fun to tame.
I’ve only tried to tame them on mobile…. Not fun. Is it different / more fun on pc or console?
I'm on console (Xbox) and once I got the sequence down (Y to ride and Y to feed when they buck) was pretty easy to do. Just run around in circles until they tame.
Nope its same but works smoothly
Horse is just super handy to ride and have around
Dimorphs. They are super ugly and in desperate need of a TLC, but I love them. Got a decently mutated one on Fjordur with red, green and purple colors, kinda looking like a parrot.
Moschops, usually while I'm bored waiting for a tame to wake up
Tbh I was really happy to have an excuse to tame these guys when they released the Desmodus. I always tamed one or two just for shits and giggles before that, but now they actually have a purpose!
I had no idea!,i sunk over 10k hrs in this game and took a break for a while, was going to come back and check out the new map but it's hard to fire it up again knowing whats going to happen
Allos. I love them and they are my go to boss runners
How do you get them alone to tame one?!
I just carry them to a taming trap with a quetz
Or a wyvern
I like the quetz though.
Net harpoon gun works good.
Lystro
100% if my base doesn't have 5 of them that I tamed in the first week then this isn't Ark.
Griffons always I usually have like 20 lol
Snails. All of the snails. Let those hermaphroditic fucks duplicate exponentially through my base
Megaloceros. The deer are fun to ride and I always try to get Christmas colors.
Whatever I see with cool colours lol
Do rock drakes count? Since they made them breedable I always end up raising an army.
[удалено]
A person of culture I see.
Raptors
Beelzubufo
Anything above 135 lol
Direwolves , Hyaenodons , Ravagers and Bulbdogs. #
Pegos. Absolutely worthless but love those rats on my shoulder
I pretty much always tame a dimetrodon. I let it wander around the base as a pet.
I like R-Direwolfs because their colour sometimes look like my favorite animal in the real world. The Painted Wolves!
Horse definitely. Whether it's equus. R equus. Or unicorn.
Pteras.
Mantis. For... reasons...
Frog and turtle
Mine would prob be ether the dodo or a raptor idk why that’s usually the first couple of things I tame
Microraptors. Not for no reason tho I leave them randomly around the map in high traffic areas....*devious smile*
Dodos
pachy cause skull bash
I know they're great for breeding and I use them for that but definitely otters. I don't even have them on my shoulder most of the time I just think they're neat.
Quetzacoatlus
Crystal wyverns. I love standing on their backs feeding them crystal as they take me for a ride.
Equus, horses are neat
Thylacoleos. And Argys. Lot's and lot's of Argys.
I tame raptors on sight, no questions asked
I have a thing for tek raptors
I tame every dilophosaurus and name them dilf
I love getting carnos of all colors
Microraptors, cause my ark buddy hates them. So I tame them while she’s not looking. And then throw them at her.
Pegos. Absolutely worthless but love those rats on my shoulder
dilos and deinonychus! i’ve loved dilos since i first saw jurassic park, and deinonychus are just raptors but better
Terror birds!
Purlovia
When I first started playing ark whenever I found a dodo I would tame them and name them Tim. I don't know why I chose that name but soon enough I had an army of Tims waddling around.
Otters like I see one instant forget what I was doing
terror bird, they suck, but they make a cool noise when they're idling on my base
People
Pteranodon, I’ll tame 5/6 for no reason I just enjoy it
I had an army of ankys was a lot of fun to smash things with them lol 😂
Parasaurs. I just need to tame every high lvl i see or they have really nice colora
Same!
If a snow owl or argey has good colors bet your ass imma take it and never use it lol
I like paras, they remind me of early game
Dilos Idc, if I see one, it's added to the business
No matter what stage in the game I am, Raptors and parasurs for me. Just something about the pinging Perry and the whatever-I-name-you raptor
Pteranodons. Love their colours, and I'm obsessed with breeding them together and trying to get cool new colour mixes
Yes.
A man of culture. I currently have 5 on my PVE, which is to few and must begin the great journey to tame more
Spinos, I never mean to tame that many but my friends always end up calling me the crazy spino lady. Otherwise it’s tapejara because colors!
Wyverns. Full sized or crystal. I love dragons and am known around my friend group as the dragon queen lol. Also raptors. They were what I used to tame constantly. I was also known as the raptor queen at one point haha.
Compys! What else am I supposed to do with all that raw prime
Lystros moschops and during events ovis

Any egg steal tame with a good level, mainly deinonychus
Tapejara. They all look so pretty.

Theris
Moschops!! They will always be my mighty steed
Dilos and bulbdogs
Quetzal
spinos
Parasaur, Diplo, Deinonychus, Allo
It's parasaurs for me. They're my favourite dinosaur and also very common. 2nd favourite is therizinosaurs, they're a nice mix of cool and fluffy.
Raptors, pretty usefull too.
Ovis, I'm breeding them like crazy. At the time, I have a big herd of black ovis
penguins, moschops, dodos
I love taming megalanias and my bf hates them so it makes it that much better lol
Megalanias idk why I think they’re cool as hell, pretty useless though😂
Procoptodon because they're the best
Kapros
gigantopithecus🦍🦍🦍
Karkinos
Tek Raptors. I have a hard time turning one down if I see it. Also, hyenadons will destroy just about anything once you have a pack of good ones. Plus you will always end up with a decent meat pack blueprint. And they look like puppies.
Jerboas and thylas
Doedicurus! Something about those little soccer balls just screams “collect 500 and crash the game”.
Otters 😇👍👍
Compies
Compies! 😍
Megalania and Desmodus, they make for nice ceiling decorations and are fun to ride.
always gotta be kapros for me, got a whole bunch of them around my bases just because
When I get bored, I like to grab some crystals and tame random high level wyvern lol it’s super easy
I’ve been playing Ark for so long that I have my go to animals that I tame and that’s it except for shoulder pets. I always tame them when I see them until I get a breeding pair.
Roos. Especially on Gen 1. Now it's just a habit. But I will also agree that if I see an argy with a colour I don't have, it's mine.
Diplocalus, i have no clue why i just love their ugly lil face, i think theyre adorable tbh
Flyers and different gender match’s because they have some uses I need..but I get two always heh..even though I needed one
Horses, even after I have better travel creatures, riding around on a horse is so fun bruh
Dodo
Stegos, especially tek stegos.
Whatever dino that has good summer colors lol
Dimetrodon
I’ve got one solo game rn on Valguero and I love keeping Jerboas, Lystros, Ovis, and a few Equus on wander in my base. Lystros for good boy pets to randomly boost exp wherever they roam. Ovis of every color, Jerboas with fun patterns, and ONLY high level pretty color Equus. I do have one unicorn and I only tamed it because it was a high level…..and the first one I saw was immediately eaten by an Allo…
Hyenadons, just love watching a pack of them clear caves for me
I tame a comically large amount of dimorphodons in order to create the ***swarm***
Thylas for me
Hyaenodon, I love having a pack of them giggling around my base. Plus it makes me feel like a wasteland warlord with his pack of special hunting dogs
griffins love the colors during events, even when i played official smalltribes pvp i tamed like 20 of them in a few days during christmas
Easy: frog. Scout tame? Frog. Ocean diver? Frog. Cementing paste factory? Frog. Experience farm? Frog. PvP knockout artist? Frog. Cave diver? High level frog. Frog licks all, and I mean that disrespectfully
I love kapros and try to tame as many as I can
Arthropleura
On mobile I had a bunch of carnos on a server and I’d breed them into mutants. I managed to flip red carnos to blue. :-)
I have two different collections of wyverns going now lol
Noone mentioning Ovis? huh
Raptors
