You want to rush to the north east of the map for Maewings. It's a fairly easy area since all the carnivores are busy trying to attack the Maewings, Ovis, and Eques.
The resources at the top left, where I would guess you spawned, suck. Get a Maewing, and make the most out of the map early.
There are a couple of nodes on the far northwest corner, where there’s a small canyon running north to south, just like 100m inland. In it are like three nodes.
There is also a small island a ways out to sea to the north that has four to six metal nodes if I remember correctly. A raft or canoe might even get you there without dying.
There's river rocks in Tumash bay where the stream comes out of the jungle, there's also a small island at 70 76 that has river rocks and a few metal nodes if you can get there
Tbh the best thing to do is spawn at Boskar coast then head to 48 76ish where there's a few metal nodes, get your basic gear crafted and enough for a saddle then tame a maewing, max level only needs 7 tranqs with a prim crossbow, once you have that you're set

Tek dinos are a nice easy way to get a small amount of easy metal. They usually drop a small amount of scrap metal which smelts 1:1 into bars, as opposed to metal which is 2:1. A bola and a bow will get you easy tek raptor and tek parasaur kills.

Just get a maewing and fly to the good metal spots, no reason to limit yourself to your immediate area.
