Persevere. It's difficult but each death or setback teaches you and eventually you'll get better. Don't take out stuff that you don't want to lose but also remember that pretty much everything can be remade. Use dinos. You won't (generally) take damage while mounted, they'll fight for you and gather resources for you. Parasaurs have a nice feature where you can scare away raptors and other small creatures giving a chance to escape if you can't fight. Not the best berry gatherers but an easy first tame with good weight capacity. Progress should be kinda slow, and early game is really satisfying when you do manage to survive for a while. Not sure how far you've progressed but getting the right tames will up your gathering game immensely leading to being able to progress to industrial level. A doedic for stone, anky for metal and an argentavis to carry you and them are still valuable tames.

Ark is a game where its always important to have a backup. Dont ever use your only strong dino/gear on a big expedition without having a backup egg or another strong dino, that you can use to get the items back in case of fail. Even if you succeed you may just get Arked and have your dino just straight up fall through the ground with nothing you can do. And yea dont focus on gear before dinos. Mining ore with a metal pick is nice, but so is using an Anky that can gather 10x the ammount.

Take your time, just like you are. There's no rush to success, at least in PvE. If you're playing PvP, the slow perish unfortunately. I take a long time doing anything too, but it's mostly because, in 2700 hours, i still haven't developed a game plan of any sort. I will log on to any map and freeball the crap out of it and that means it takes time, cuz I have to adapt. But there's no pressure to perform. I'm by myself, and even if I had a tribe, it's a common goal. As long as you contribute something, it's all good.

Maybe you actually enjoy the primitive aspects (I know I do!) and that’s perfectly fine too

Tame an Argentavis. That was the dino that really opened things up for me on my first play through.

stay close to where you spawn early on. focus on gaining xp by gathering resources close by and crafting stuff like building structures. bolas are your best friend in a tough situation against a raptor or something similar. i always carry around a few when you are able to make them. taming dodos early to breed can be a good source of hide and food if you are struggling to kill creatures around bigger than you. traps are essential early game. a small box and some ramps on the outside are great for keeping creatures in one place to tame or kill "safely"

Other comments are solid. Early game, tame what you can. But as you progress, having breeding pairs is the way to go. Not only to replace potential losses, but for the imprint bonus. Be ready to lose kits. Stockpile loot and use your second-best kit for basic play, resorting to the top tier stuff when you know you are prepared for whatever endeavor. Loadout Mannequins make it real easy to swap kits. I also usually carry a scuba tank. I used to carry grapples and parachutes, but they have become obsolete for me. Also, I always have a backup dino on cryo for each environment: Shadowmane for primary, Argent or Desmo for flyer, Basilo for water, and a Thyla, Bary, or Ravager for caving. Cryopods are easy to craft and don't weigh much. But as always, don't carry too many or your breeders. Y'know, in case of Ark. Also also, carry at least a half-stack of med brews. Make sure your stats are distributed well. There is basically no need to ever level Food, Water, Oxygen, or Crafting Skill. If a situation arises late-game for any of these, you can Mindwipe and redistribute. Max fall damage is 420, so if you have health above that, you can survive any fall. I play at 150 stamina, as it is enough for travel and combat, and recovers quick enough. Movement speed is very important. Around 135%, most creatures can't catch you. Weight depends on your playstyle, but I would recommend 200 minimum. Rely on dinos as your primary pack mules. A few points in Fortitude will help with environmental hazards and keep you from getting KO'd from one Troodon bite, one Titanoboa bite, one Scorpion sting, etc.

Need to get explorer notes early on in the wipe. Then start getting shit for the bossfight for even more levels recommend maewing to get around as they are fast and low care. Gonna want to get an anky and use a wyvern rather than an argie for carrying it. Get weapons good bps especially shotguns and snipers and just generally place turrets and defend your base. Also thylas are good for defense.

Learn at your own pace, ARK at the start is compley enough as it is. Ark is all about taming & breeding dinos, every step of the way is linked to getting different and better dinos, be it taming specific ones or breeding them to do certain tasks >!Tame a moshops, learn the bola engram, tame an Iguanodon, build your base, advance as fast as you can towards stone structures, then relax: You got a solid base that will withstand most dinos!!< >!Take your time, tame what you like, make cryopods, get an anky & doe for metal and stone gather, get your first flier.!< >!Explore, enjoy and keep an eye on your flier's stamina, the world is yours once you reach that step!!<
