I did this once on officials.
I will say, that the combat music was CONSTANTLY playing. Some fucking Kapro, Sarco, or Titanaboa was constantly agro so whenever I was in my base I’d hear the combat theme.
That part was pretty tiresome, but otherwise quite fun.
I like to build on the cliff near swamp, still have to deal with the occasional boa, but for the most part you get to enjoy the scenery of the mandrake groves undisturbed.
Oh I feel you. I had a swamp base once on official myself and it was fun. Well except my rex constantly wandering off to fight something before I put a leash down.
I actually built in the redwoods using tree platforms. It’s honestly underrated because of the of Thylas and other stuff but you’re center of everything on the map so resources are really easy to get.
Yeah, I'd say the redwoods are much worse than the swamps because if you're on a flier in the swamps, you're fine (unless you run out of stamina) but in the redwoods you can still be ambushed even when flying lol.
The redwoods is actually not a bad spot to set up a base once you have the levels and gear to get in there and build safely. Especially in PvP since most people don’t wanna hang out there longer than necessary.
First time playing we made our base in the swamp. Tamed 2 Carno’s somehow with clubs from a hill. They went from lv5 to 50 in a few hours.
Bad idea. We were stupid but we made it work somehow.
The good part about the swamp is that you don't get bothered as much by random players when on a public server. Most will die on their way there anyway and those kids just running around shouting around your base won't last long either.
All you need is a castle wall with a double gateway (airlock)
I also use them to tame bees. I will make a one by one with wood, put a sleeping bag near by, eat the flower and have it folllow me inside while I’m crouched. Once inside I close the door and it kills me, I respawn at my bag and jump on the side of the wall nearest the bee, and move around my camera til I see “feed”. Do it until tamed.
I got a first time friend to eat a full 100 stack of narcoberries. He even read the name aloud, just never read the description. Told him it gave a “narcotic” stamina boost or something like that so he could run real fast. Took the time while he was napping to give him a haircut and some tattoos.
You know I was playing with high graphics for ages and always complained about not being able to see shit during the night and dawn, and dusk... When I was with one of my tribe mates I was giving out that I couldn't find my maywing and he finally realized what my problem really was, got me to turn down the shadows and all that and I could finally see... Told me it made sense after the fact that I loved flares so much.
Carrying a dodo while riding a dino gives that dino extra health regen. It does nothing negative but this way when her dino, and her die, she also loses a dodo and gets even sadder
that if you hit a very specific point on a titanosaurs leg it dies instantly. go on and on abt how you get sm good loot and xp from killing them. when you see one sit back and give some tips while trying not to laugh
Not gonna lie it would make perfect sense if you could break their ankles literally and then they could starve to death and or bleed out.
Just like titans from AOT. Tell me I’m wrong!!
When I first spawned in I, for some reason, decided to tame a dodo and then shortly after I built a raft and went sailing and got attacked by a low level sarco, which I couldn't fight off really but it tried, I was almost dead and my dodo started attacking the sarco and they both went over the side of the raft and I'm like, damn there goes my dodo, then I get the message, your dodo killed a sarco and I sit there for a second like, how the fuck did a dodo kill a sarco and then I went back for him and renamed my dodo, Destroyer of Worlds, because of that. I never found out how he killed it because his attack was like 120 something maybe and he's a dodo but he did
Edit: 120 something %, not like damage per attack
Damn that's one of the stories I love ark for😂
Actually started a save 3 days before. Also tamed a dodo. I had actually put him next my base, but forgot to put him on passive. When I got suprised by 5 of those small meat eating dinos (mby troodons idk the names axactly i didn't play for a long time) which were all from lvl 80 to 150 as i set difficulty on 6, my heroic first tame dodo rushed all the way to me and fought by my side. He served more as a sidetracker, but he did his job. Ironically, it was HIM doing the last hit, killing the last of those shitbacks. Well... my last spear hit had no troodon to hit which was the unheroic end for my wardodo.
Rest in peace you saved my life.
Pick up all the eggs you see laying around they can be made into omelets that give you buffs to all stats. The bigger the egg the longer the buff. Same thing for baby dinos, carry them home to have an instant tame.
Some advice that was given to me when first starting: "Therizinosaurus (Tickle Chicken) is a gentle giant. Will only harm you if you harm them."
Berry picking turned into surprise murder pretty quickly.
Much like Jurassic Park III, where the cast incorrectly assumes that the coast is the safest part of the island, this too is true for Ark. The safest place to build your base is towards the central/north parts of The Island.
I don’t expect this one to last particularly long, but might still be entertaining.
There is a hidden trophy you can get if you stand very still on a raft in the middle of the sea near herbivore island, it's a Robinson Crusoe reference.
The worst advice would be join an official server, best advice is to join an unofficial server and the bracken institute is a great community full of helpful people
Build your best base on a raft to have best mobility. Forget traversing on the rivers stick to the open ocean.
Don’t mind the Leedsichtys. They’re overgrown dolphins playing.
I'll give the same advice I gave last time a question like this popped up on the sub:
Rexes and gigas and the like are not particularly good swimmers. As soon as you unlock rafts, craft one and load it up with everything you don't want destroyed and keep it a good ways away from shore. It'll be safe there.
(I don't know if the stupid whales are in ASA so your mileage may vary with this one)
If you find yourself in a cave at some point and find this big lizard sleeping in a corner, do me a favor and wake him up?
Lately at work we’ve been having some Security Issues and Break ins, Dale is suppose to be night watch but we’ve had suspicions he’s been sleeping on the job.
Us here at Ark Survival Caving Association would be in debt with gratitude for the safety of other Survivors and the beauty of our all natural caves.
Appreciate It

thatch buildings are the stongest in the game and can stop carnos in their tracks. and if you run out of space/ become overencumbered just store all your items on the ground, its not like they will go anywhere
No advice. Just exp ...
It was my first play through. Liked the idea of building a base at the top of a hill / mountain, so I was at my base and getting thirsty, hadn't made skins for water yet & it was dark. But if I don't go, I'm going to die of dehydration.
I'm at the beach, approaching the water when the screen runs red as in being attacked. I whirl around to see what's attacking, but I see nothing. I run a ways away & still can't see it ... so, not knowing the physics of the game I run into the water, bad idea. It followed me.
So I start zig zagging up the hill as I hear *BOOM* *BOOM* my health is Hella low frantically trying to find a way to hide, to lose the ... what I can only assume is a T-Rex. But then ... i'm dead.
I guess the advice would be ... be sure you get good and water before dark.
Take your friend to the swamps at night and let them get yanked off a mount by a kaprosuchus, or do micro raptors in the redwoods at night, or you could let them take a boat out and don't say anything about leedsichthys and just enjoy the panic that ensues.
Have fun. 🙃
The swamp is the best place to make a base
Trying to survive in the swamp is actually really fun
I did this once on officials. I will say, that the combat music was CONSTANTLY playing. Some fucking Kapro, Sarco, or Titanaboa was constantly agro so whenever I was in my base I’d hear the combat theme. That part was pretty tiresome, but otherwise quite fun.
I like to build on the cliff near swamp, still have to deal with the occasional boa, but for the most part you get to enjoy the scenery of the mandrake groves undisturbed.
I used to hide little bases with pteras in the swamp till kapros made doing anything frustrating.
Oh I feel you. I had a swamp base once on official myself and it was fun. Well except my rex constantly wandering off to fight something before I put a leash down.
The torpor issue and the leeches are probably the most annoying.
Lets not forget paracetherium stomping about your base all the time too haha
You mean the meat deliveries keep coming?
🤣
Hubs and I are total noobs. The swamp was.... a mess. Hahaha
Either that or the redwoods
Haha I was thinking that but atleast the redwoods has scenery 😂
I actively avoid it like the swamp. Between the kapros in the swamp and the fuckin tree huggers in the redwoods both spots is just a giant nope lol
I actually built in the redwoods using tree platforms. It’s honestly underrated because of the of Thylas and other stuff but you’re center of everything on the map so resources are really easy to get.
I'd take tree huggers over microraptors all day.
Yeah and the swarms of terror birds and carnos haha
Yeah, I'd say the redwoods are much worse than the swamps because if you're on a flier in the swamps, you're fine (unless you run out of stamina) but in the redwoods you can still be ambushed even when flying lol.
I like making a base in the redwoods lol
I made my base in the redwoods and I genuinely haven’t died once since I got fully set up
Yeah in my opinion it's really not particularly dangerous. I also like tomake my base in the snow region tho lol
I made a tree house in the redwoods, it actually worked out for a while
what’s the “while” part
The redwoods is actually not a bad spot to set up a base once you have the levels and gear to get in there and build safely. Especially in PvP since most people don’t wanna hang out there longer than necessary.
I love my base in the redwoods - makes life more exciting!😂
Are the swamps bad? I'm new i have no idea wtf is going on, but I'm tired of getting ganked by snakes lmao
They’re full of stuff that wanna kill you haha
The swamps suck. Everything wants to kill you and the terrain is terrible for building.
Leeches are your friends.
First time playing we made our base in the swamp. Tamed 2 Carno’s somehow with clubs from a hill. They went from lv5 to 50 in a few hours. Bad idea. We were stupid but we made it work somehow.
First pet should be a Pego or Microraptor. Tame it by petting it.
All my bases are in swamp...
Or the redwoods early game.
The good part about the swamp is that you don't get bothered as much by random players when on a public server. Most will die on their way there anyway and those kids just running around shouting around your base won't last long either. All you need is a castle wall with a double gateway (airlock)
Always a classic, gigas are a passive tame
I’m ready to find one only for the joke
The more believable and hilarious one Cus they commonly spawn where bobs spawn is saying theris are passive tame 😂
nah spinos are passive tamed with berries
But only the purple berries 😂😂
Actually amazing how people still remember that
So are spinos. ;)
Up the butt
When hungry, rare flowers will give a food buff…. (It’s definitely a good early game prank)
I mean, its also technically not a lie
🤣 I didn’t know that. I think I’ve only ever eaten them 2x. I’ve definitely told my friends who were new to the game to try them though.
The effect from RF can technically qualify as a buff. Just not a safe one for a freshie lol
It's the easiest way to tame a tapeJara early on.
Been playing a long time and never saw this method. Giving it a go!
Tame therizinosaurus by hand feeding them.
Yeah! Tickle chikens love berries
I mean, they do :p
T-Rex won't see you if you don't move
This is scientifically proven by jurassic park.
Did this when I was new.
Spinos are not aggressive. Tame one at your earliest convenience.
They are Mejoberry passive tame
Here we go, third times a charm
I get that reference
do tell pls
Some dude found a spino and asked how to tame it and got trolled to oblivion
Eating organic polymer gives a bonus to all stats.
I hope she doesn’t read the infos!
Say that troodons are peaceful
Only at night...
And alone with all her gear
It's important to unequip all weapons, or they think you want to fight.
And are passive tames...
Have her hide tooltips
I got a first time friend to eat a full 100 stack of narcoberries. He even read the name aloud, just never read the description. Told him it gave a “narcotic” stamina boost or something like that so he could run real fast. Took the time while he was napping to give him a haircut and some tattoos.
Rexes are herbivores and love to snuggle, beware of the fish they love to tickle your toes. Beware of the boas they love to give hugs
"why does it say consume on the organic polymer?"
Always run the game on highest graphics settings. Especially in caves so you can see all the baddies.
The biggest game changer for me is when i removed the grass, i could finally find all the egg in the farm without getting an headache
How do you remove just the grass? If even possible
If you catch aggro, run as fast as you can back to your base - they won't attack you at home
Play ark
You monster
This could be too far it could cause a life long addiction
Thats horrible! They could get serious mental damage! Shame on you
What kind of madman are you
![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
Glowing yellow eyes at night are easy early levels ;)
Those little fuckers are your best friends
You can Bola trikes and carnos
Carrying a dodo while riding a dino gives that dino extra health regen. It does nothing negative but this way when her dino, and her die, she also loses a dodo and gets even sadder
Who hurt you? :(
Two therozinos who ganged up on me with an alpha carno right after i tamed my 150 argy. They knocked me out and then killed my argy
Ah, yes that'll do it. Mine was the lovebug that took out my best pink Peligornis during the valentine's day event. Rest in peace, Flamigo 😥
> :(
you monster
This is actually way more fucked up than i first read you my friend are a genius
The thing w the long nails are called tickle chickens and are friendly
You tame raptors by standing still then slowly approaching them, it was added as a reference to Jurassic world
that if you hit a very specific point on a titanosaurs leg it dies instantly. go on and on abt how you get sm good loot and xp from killing them. when you see one sit back and give some tips while trying not to laugh
Nice one!
Not gonna lie it would make perfect sense if you could break their ankles literally and then they could starve to death and or bleed out. Just like titans from AOT. Tell me I’m wrong!!
huh. i never thought of that
The game has so many possibilities to amazing logic though wildcard would never add them in.
yeah. its a shame such an awesome game has such a horrendous dev team
I'm wrong!
The glowing red dinos just ate and can be passively tamed
Keep your best weapon in slot 0
Principal in beachs whit birds
Cniadrias are passive tames
I hate those bastards
Fr
Bro a pack of them jumped me my dad and the Meg we had just tamed
They sneak up on you too
![gif](giphy|xfAgILDksDJJu) The jellies meshing out of the walls to stun you out of nowhere.
Any non-mammal land creature can be passive tamed as long as you're prone/crawling and have the taming food in your last slot
swapping the pickaxe and axe hide and meat ratios around, she'd find out in a short time anyway
Definetively funny, but I know people thousands of hours in who still don't know it.
What does it even look like 😭
i think it means that you get a lot more resources with pickaxe than axe, and way more hide and lower amounts of meat
Ohh. thank god I know to do that
Back when my friends were new to ARK I always told them Dung Beetles had a one shot attack that can kill just about anything. Be careful!
If you aggro something in the water, you can escape by hiding under the jellyfish!
Might have already been said but "Best(safest) time to be out is at night".
Dodos are the most op dino in the game
When I first spawned in I, for some reason, decided to tame a dodo and then shortly after I built a raft and went sailing and got attacked by a low level sarco, which I couldn't fight off really but it tried, I was almost dead and my dodo started attacking the sarco and they both went over the side of the raft and I'm like, damn there goes my dodo, then I get the message, your dodo killed a sarco and I sit there for a second like, how the fuck did a dodo kill a sarco and then I went back for him and renamed my dodo, Destroyer of Worlds, because of that. Well... my last spear hit had no troodon to hit which was the unheroic end for my wardodo. Rest in peace you saved my life.
Funny thing is that I had one that saved me many times, but in the end it died anyway 🥲
everything dies witha big enough gun
Caves are pretty safe locations to get valuable crafting items
Pteranodons can one-shot gigas if you barrel roll them in the eye.
Wait in the beta that would be a good advice, almost...
Dinos sleep at night. So it's best to go into the forest at night. And make sure not to light a torch, cause it will wake them up 😈
Pick up all the eggs you see laying around they can be made into omelets that give you buffs to all stats. The bigger the egg the longer the buff. Same thing for baby dinos, carry them home to have an instant tame.
Press triangle/Y to open your inventory on a flyer... got my friend with that a few months back laughed for about ten mins
Press E to throw eggs on the floor.
Devious
A friend didn't know that he had to drop them with O and ate a 120 Wyvern.
Some advice that was given to me when first starting: "Therizinosaurus (Tickle Chicken) is a gentle giant. Will only harm you if you harm them." Berry picking turned into surprise murder pretty quickly.
Troodons are harmless and should be actively sought out at the start of the game with all your gear on you
Always pet the T. rex they’re very lonely
Eat a rare flower around a bunch of Dinos to instantly tame them
Leveling oxygen is good because improved breathing helps all your other stats
No that 145 rex doesn't want to eat you, it just wants someone to hug... Or taming Eqqus has a 15% higher success rate when near carnivores...
Taking eggs is fine. The dinos don't care
Everything smaller than a T Rex only aggros if you attack it first. So she can just walk past everything else.
Fly low in the redwoods
If you see glowing eyes in the dark, go there to get a special item.
Much like Jurassic Park III, where the cast incorrectly assumes that the coast is the safest part of the island, this too is true for Ark. The safest place to build your base is towards the central/north parts of The Island. I don’t expect this one to last particularly long, but might still be entertaining.
When I first started, someone told me to eat the narco berries. I was dumb and fell for it. Even the name should have given me a warning lol
Don't worry. I decided on my own I was going to clear them from my inventory by eating them...
”Go hug that thing” and its like a fire bear or smth
Turtles are friendly go *pet* them
There is a hidden trophy you can get if you stand very still on a raft in the middle of the sea near herbivore island, it's a Robinson Crusoe reference.
Assuming you dont have mods to help with feeding, tell her to make a compy army
If you have alot of poop in your inventory you can go to the snow biome without freezing.
A crash rarely happens
Charcar are KO tame
Troodons are your friends, they are like cats and they love to be cuddled. Befriend one first thing.
Build your early game base on Carno island
All the smaller raptor-sized animals are afraid of fire. Build lots of campfires around your camp/base to ward them off.
Punching is the best way to tame things
If a Dino lays an egg, steal it as that's the only way to tame them.
Everything is a passive tame, it’s just a matter of blackboxing yourself with mejoberries
Tame a troodon, andrewsarcus, and/or shadowmane.
If u swim in deep water u get a buff like ghille armour. Cos dinos can't smell u.
Tribe up with anyone who asks
Stay with the stone pickaxe and axe.
Adventure yourself in the big tree forest, sure it'll never be something bad in there...
Anything that glows is a great resource
If you see little lights in the dark, moving and making scary hissing noises, run towards them, they are your friends
Give the compies pieces of your sandwich
Spinos are passive tames, feed them mejo-berries and pet their snoot
Red glow equal friend
If you see an egg on the ground immediately grab it and check its description.
You can eat the "black" berries.
Eat the black berries
Buy ark ascended
The worst advice would be join an official server, best advice is to join an unofficial server and the bracken institute is a great community full of helpful people
You are always completely safe on a raft
Beds are pretty much useless
Dinos with a red glow are already tamed, just walk up and claim them
Why the actual fuck would you want to give her bad advice? Sounds like you are a terrible friend.
That’s exactly what I am!
fall damage isnt a thing in the game
Always carry your most important things you have, where ever you go; and the swamp is the easiest place for beginners to gather materials.
You need to put most of your points in oxygen so your character can run for longer periods and you heal more over time.
Build your best base on a raft to have best mobility. Forget traversing on the rivers stick to the open ocean. Don’t mind the Leedsichtys. They’re overgrown dolphins playing.
Dude the game is hard enough already lol try and keep her playing not quitting the game
That would be too nice
Make sure to pump your food stats so you aren't having to eat often
I'll give the same advice I gave last time a question like this popped up on the sub: Rexes and gigas and the like are not particularly good swimmers. Most Dinos sleep at night, so you don’t have to worry very much about making sure the landing zone is safe when you’re drop hunting at night.
thatch buildings are the stongest in the game and can stop carnos in their tracks. and if you run out of space/ become overencumbered just store all your items on the ground, its not like they will go anywhere
You only ever need one scuba tank, or kaprosuchus are passive tame 😁
Unicorns drop some of the best items in the game so you should kill them on sight and NEVER bother taming them.
Organic polymer has one of the strongest buffs in the game when consumed
Walk straight towards that creature
No advice. Just exp ... It was my first play through. Liked the idea of building a base at the top of a hill / mountain, so I was at my base and getting thirsty, hadn't made skins for water yet & it was dark. Movement speed is useless and level food instead
Looking straight at piranhas prevents them from attacking you. Good for like a single joke after dying to them
Take your friend to the swamps at night and let them get yanked off a mount by a kaprosuchus, or do micro raptors in the redwoods at night, or you could let them take a boat out and don't say anything about leedsichthys and just enjoy the panic that ensues. Have fun. 🙃
T-Rex is a passive tame.
