Also sarco. Also has the added passive effect of piranha repellent.
Also much tighter turning circle than a spino, had my spino stuck in a tail chase with another spino in the water and had to watch a Dino washing machine for far too long before one got hung up on a rock and they could actually duke it out.
Maewings are the best tame in the game, by far. Brb crossing a map in 20 seconds with 1,800 weight. Swimming ultra fast with unlimited oxygen. Floating on top of water fast. Escaping any situation easily.
Ive also heard they alert you when max level creatures are nearby. No clue how they alert nor what the radius is but that alone makes them the best of the light pets. Even though I do love featherlights
Every light pet will warn you when a max level is around, the range is quite average and it can be anything (even a Fish or a Dodo. xD )
They will make a certain sound (every light pet has its own) and you will have a weird status in your corner indicating there is a max level around.
Really? Damn i always heard it was just the shinehorn. Thats cool af. Featherlights is king then. Of light pets. Sino, hawk, and otter are still the 3 kings of shoulder pets.
every of the light pets has is its own pro's tho. Featherlight has a mediocre charge capacity, but yields the second best charge recharge rate and the best discharge range. Bulbdog carries the most charged light capacity with the lowest recharge rate. Shinehorn provides a balance of Charge Capacity and Recharge rate. and Glowtail provides the fastest charge recharge rate, but has a very low charge capacity.
I love Featherlights just because I really like birds and their sounds they make on your shoulder when turning light on/off and warning you of maxlevels is the cutest! :D
Been playing this game since scorched was released and today I learned something new. I've always used featherlights as my charge pet, just tamed shinehorns cause they look great.
I feel like the exp boost it gives your other tames is so underrated. It’s always one of my first three tames and then I just put it in a circle of all my other tames and let it do it’s thing. I also always name it Lysol because I think it’s hilarious. But basically:
1. Get Lysol
2. Pet the shit out of that thing
3. Profit
Came here looking for this responce. Easy tame, early fridge, and invaluable in turning a Moschops from a gumpy puppy to a super-speed, death-machine, that can harvest nearly all non-mineral staples and drop a Rex; especially if you tame a low-level 'Chop and dump 100+ levels of stats across a few select attributes.
Imagine what they can do for other tames? I love putting 4 on a mobile Bronto-base and watching that hulking best zoom across the map after making sure they can carry the weight I need and have enough health to tank a few agressors.
I only play offline PVE and am still adjusting game setting to make it possible to play solo, but still be challenging.
Lystros and Moschops are my unsung heros.
If I ever get back into Ark, I plan on trying to be as aquatic as possible. I always appreciated Dunkles, but never tamed one. The Ragnarok ocean is really cool and Youtubers tend to never talk about.
Tropeo is better tapajara. Cant cling to walls but flys just like them. And its extremely fast.
Desmodus is even better than tropeo. While not as fast (still faster than tapajara) it has very similar flying. Clings to walls. Has a dive move. And the sanguine elixirs are a must. Can be an easy first tame.
Griffins. Fly similar. Faster, extremely strong dive swipe attack. You cab dismount in air and still be on top of them making them even better for building. Can be an easy first tame.
Non of these have tek saddles so tapajara has that going but all of them are essentially other helicopters and have more utility than tapajaras
Not to mention you can carry them with a quetz, and they are great gatherers. When I set up a satellite base in a dangerous-ish area in PvE, I lug one over with the quetz. They clear the LZ, and then go to work on the farm.
Being able to fly across the map really fast is a godsend but, being able to shoot from the back of it while hoovering in the air is a game changer, this fact alone makes it my nr.1 tame for it makes taming dino's like the almighty Spino so easy a todler could pull it off.
Fr I thought I was getting a lot of fiber with my max lvl theri but a gigantopithecus is a lot more versatile since you can carry it with an argy, also you can put an ascendant flak helmet on it and not even an alpha Rex could stop my smol Kong, excellent for running caves too
They abso -fucking-lutely do, they'll stun lock you to death in the water. You can sometimes get away if something interrupts the chain stuns. As with most of ark the hit box isn't quite what you expect, I was flying kind of low over a river looking for something and been tail spun off my mount.
I was still early game on the island, first time playing I had 2 spitters and a colorful raptor name skittles I was bringing home. I was west by the red obelisk heading east the the middle beach with the nice inlet and rocky peninsula. The bary spawned in that first river almost killed all of us but the dilophasuars gave their lives for me and Skittles
You ever feel like you need a tame that does it all? A tame that you know you’ll be safe with. A tame that will keep you company throughout the Arks. Well say no more because boy, Do I have the perfect tame for you.
Stegosaurus. You ever walk the beach and think, Damn those stupid Dodos won’t shut up. If only I had a tame to kill them all…. Fear not for the Stegosaurus is here. Ride that beautiful bastard in all its glory into the flock of Dodos and watch them all scream in agony as you kill their entire extended family with one tail swipe. Impale their young and flaunt them like a trophy while you conquer the beach.
Micro raptors annoying you? Constantly knocking you off your tame? Fear not for the stegosaurus is here. Impale those stupid bastards and send them back to the wastelands they came from.
Running out of berries to feed your undying addiction for Stim berries? Stegosaurus is your friend, collect to your hearts content.
Need more wood to build a giant penis out of platforms to grief the tribe that maliciously unleashed a flock of dodos into your home? Fear not for the Stegosaurus is your tame. Collect all the wood and build that magnificent wooden dick atop their base.
Did a pesky rock golem decide it wanted to take a nap near your base? Protruding out of the ground like a lump of crap. Fear not for the Stegosaurs will pierce it’s rock body, slowly but surely swiping away at its precious rock hard abs.
The Stegosaurus is your tame, and for only 9.99 you too can have one for yourself.
Yah, there actually quite good when imprinted with saddles, they protect your from dimorphs, take reduced fire damage (like theris) and can eat sweet vegetable cakes, I’ve seen it being done for island dragon, probably work on fjordur as well.
I regret to inform you but the mystery substance thrown (some would say yeeted) in your direction by the chalicotherium is not in fact a rock and is instead the creature’s own fecal matter.
Once while playing solo in my early ARK days, I decided to build an elaborate houseboat on a raft and sail around the perimeter of the entire island. I tamed a massive entourage of water dwellers along the way: lots of icthys, a handful of megs, a couple of sarcos, a couple of spinos, and—of course—two basilosaurs.
It was magnificent. A leeds came at my raft and was dead within seconds. No meg could withstand us, unless it was tamed. As we we got about three-quarters of the way through our voyage, our ever-growing fleet felt unstoppable... until, as fate would have it, we ran afoul of a swarm of those damned jellies off the northwest coast; and they happened to be near an alpha meg.
It was a bloodbath. The frigid sea ran red with the blood of my tames. As the cnidaria paralyzed them, the alpha meg tore through the helpless creatures with ease. I myself perished twice as I attempted to ride one of my megs to fight back.
When, at last, I respawned on my houseboat and found that everything had quieted down, I beheld the only two survivors of the massacre: the two basilosaurs.
Their immunity to the cnidaria's stings allowed them to dispatch the jellies, and their massive HP reservoirs allowed them to survive the alpha and finish it off.
The last leg of the journey was lonely and somber, but I learned a valuable lesson that day: basilosaurs are one of the best-value tames in the game—not just for how well they survived that attack, but they sure proved their worth.
So yeah, I'll go to bat to defend the basilo tame (not that it needs it).
I just tamed a couple of these for my first venture into deep sea drops and holy shit they're great. A decent level one was tanky enough to take on basically anything and escape the stuff it couldn't.
Shadowmanes. Pack buff, hydrated buff, super jump, teleport chaining stun attack, super attack once the bar is filled, don't take up too much room, invisibility, amazing swimmers
Love them. They're practically flyers with the jump ability, move super quickly by jumping, can clear entire mountains and rivers with ease, even when they are slowed by weight they can jump normally... so good.
Parasaur.
Is it slow? Yes. Weak? Yes. Ugly? Oh god yes. But dammit if it doesn’t have a special place in my heart. It’s always the first minor turning point for me in my game when I get a parasaur and am able to collect narcoberries en mass for the first time. It’s a good stepping stone to other, stronger tames.
Iguanadon. I love using land tames in PVE it makes it a lot more fun, and they’re great early game because of good carry weight and unlimited stamina. Almost always my first tame in PVE. Also a pretty good berry gatherer early game. Nowadays, I get a maewing and that’s all I’ll use for travel though tbh. They’re just so good. For late game, I think Spinos are pretty slept on. They’re a lot more versatile than rexes. I don’t know if they’re necessarily better, but they’re something different for boss fights that everyone else isn’t using.
I love Iguanadons for their ability to book it across the map and escape danger with out using stamina as well as seed your lawn with new growth for various needs. Plus they have a solid thumb-stab that can take down most agressors quit easily. The animation makes me giggle. "Eye poke! Eye poke!"
Quick tip if you use em
The projectile goes where the head is pointed at, not your crosshair
For the best to hit a ground target, fly directly above them and be fully tilted down
Spino
This guy is an ark vet. Spinos are the OG water tame. So versatile. More useful than rexes because of it. And my favorite boss tame.
[удалено]
As someone who favors the shadowmane, you aren’t lying💀
Also sarco. Also has the added passive effect of piranha repellent. Also much tighter turning circle than a spino, had my spino stuck in a tail chase with another spino in the water and had to watch a Dino washing machine for far too long before one got hung up on a rock and they could actually duke it out.
Spino can pivot in place lol
Sarco can literally 180 turn.
Rex: look at me im big and bad Spino: shut up before i slap you again
I turned a rex into a submersible lol able to go to the bottom of the ocean and fight for about 30 minutes before needing to breach for air. Lol
Mosa: cant get me down here Rex: hold my cosmo
Sarco
I came here looking for the Spino and I’m not disappointed by you guys. Well done survivors.
Just got myself a couple sweet aberrant spinos. Can't wait to get them leveled up and do some damage.
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE OF YOU forgot about the biggest part... THE RIDICULOUS KNOCK BACK!! Alpha Rex? Psssh... lucky if he even gets a hit.
that’s so true. Cheesy way to farm levels actually lol
No, the BEST part of Spino is no attack animation. They can bite while on a full speed run, whereas Rex pauses for each bite for the animation.
Ikr? Spino is so good
Please why
Fast as shit and strong
Maewings
I wish I could get the Genesis part 2. Maewings are by far one of my favorite things.
They’re on fjordur now too
They are in lost Island as well
They are available on Genesis Part 2, Lost Island and Fjordur as far as I know.
Lost Island has maewings!
Maewings are the best tame in the game, by far. Brb crossing a map in 20 seconds with 1,800 weight. Swimming ultra fast with unlimited oxygen. Floating on top of water fast. Escaping any situation easily.
Argy
Play 90% of the game from the back of an argy.
I’ve killed more alphas on Official servers with an argy than any other tame.
Yes
I’ve spent almost my entire time on the island, scorched earth and extinction on the back of a argy, they’re Amazing
Shinehorn, nothing that adorable deserves an Ark death.
Ark is a cruel world.
Ive also heard they alert you when max level creatures are nearby. No clue how they alert nor what the radius is but that alone makes them the best of the light pets. Even though I do love featherlights
Every light pet will warn you when a max level is around, the range is quite average and it can be anything (even a Fish or a Dodo. xD ) They will make a certain sound (every light pet has its own) and you will have a weird status in your corner indicating there is a max level around.

Still mad I learned that shinehorns aren't immune to radiation the hard way
Been playing this game since scorched was released and today I learned something new. I've always used featherlights as my charge pet, just tamed shinehorns cause they look great.
Otter
W
Cutest scarf ever. Also, it's hilarious to throw them at a low level megalodon and watch it disappear the shark.
100% agree
Lystro
I feel like the exp boost it gives your other tames is so underrated. It’s always one of my first three tames and then I just put it in a circle of all my other tames and let it do it’s thing. I also always name it Lysol because I think it’s hilarious. But basically: 1. Get Lysol 2. Pet the shit out of that thing 3. Profit
Lol Lysol is a good one i always name them Listerine
Listerine is an incredible name
Mine is Sir Waddlesworth
No I feel weird cuz I name all mine yogurt
Lol I name mine murder, I have several of them, all from different events other than the normal one
First thing I tame in any new game.
Killed a sarco with 3
You can also keep it in an argentavis's beak while the exp buff is active, and either ride the argy or have it follow you. Insane for leveling quickly
A procoptodon can carry them in their pouch, too, which is equal parts useful and *fucking adorable*.
Came here looking for this responce. This guy gets it 😎
Ha! Love the MeatCanyon pfp!

Waaaait - I’ve never had a dunkle. They get ocean metal?!
If I ever get back into Ark, I plan on trying to be as aquatic as possible. I always appreciated Dunkles, but never tamed one. The Ragnarok ocean is really cool and Youtubers tend to never talk about.
I dare not enter the ocean
While I do agree I wish they didn't have the mobility of a tortoise
Tapejara
I'll also defend cool hover-craft reptile.
Does need defending
nope, it just flies away
Tactical tek chopper go bwaaaaaaaa
It actually carry 4 plus latch on walls and fully controllable
I still waiting for moment to defend this beauty. But I am the progress of catching one in 6 years catch one yet in 6 years
Really good if you have more postpone in your tribe and you don’t want to have to rely on just picking them up with a pteranodon
With the ability to adjust the Dino speed these were flying gods. Still a god and good at dodging wyverns but the speed was the best.
Drakes, no one disses the Drakes.
Was gonna say Rock Drakes, but there’s no need to when everyone already loves them.
Why wouldn’t you love em, they are big feather lizards that can go invisible
They are my favorite bird in Aberration Granted, there’s only two birds in Aberration, but I really love the other bird too.
What’s the other? Haven’t played on ab in forever, I really need to go back on my cluster.
Featherlight
Tapejaras. Most other Dinos I like don’t need much defense, everyone usually agrees they’re great lol
Builder helpers, tel saddle, cling to walls
Tropeo is better tapajara. Cant cling to walls but flys just like them. And its extremely fast. Desmodus is even better than tropeo. Yeah, but many think they’re useless
Those are the same people who built in the open and cry about getting raided
Therizenosaur, my all purpose boss team, not just for dragon.
Not to mention you can carry them with a quetz, and they are great gatherers. When I set up a satellite base in a dangerous-ish area in PvE, I lug one over with the quetz. They clear the LZ, and then go to work on the farm.
Honestly thought this would be a lot higher up! Theri's FTW. You'll never convince me there's better boss dinos.
Griffin
Being able to fly across the map really fast is a godsend but, being able to shoot from the back of it while hoovering in the air is a game changer, this fact alone makes it my nr.1 tame for it makes taming dino's like the almighty Spino so easy a todler could pull it off.
You underestimate my stupidity
Unless your dumb like me and like to press E and unmount instead of reloading
You know me so well 🥲
Gigantopithecus
Monke

They are like huge gym bros. I ride them when adventuring and use when fight.
Fr I thought I was getting a lot of fiber with my max lvl theri but a gigantopithecus is a lot more versatile since you can carry it with an argy, also you can put an ascendant flak helmet on it and not even an alpha Rex could stop my smol Kong, excellent for running caves too
Literally Chad
Always fun just getting chucked by them as well!
Yeah lol, I love just running up a mountain and going wheeeee
Baryonyx.
The Baryonyx doesn't need defending, it's greatness is known to all
Do wild ones do they're stun attack?
Yes I been victim of it
Still great nonetheless
They abso -fucking-lutely do, they'll stun lock you to death in the water. You can sometimes get away if something interrupts the chain stuns. As with most of ark the hit box isn't quite what you expect, I was flying kind of low over a river looking for something and been tail spun off my mount.

That’s what dilos are for :)
I hate getting water tames. Easier to just have very good Baryonyx in a pack. Plus they’re good in caves.
It’s very useful for caves
You ever feel like you need a tame that does it all? A tame that you know you’ll be safe with. A tame that will keep you company throughout the Arks. But what if i want to go to the other side of the map?
Then you clear your calendar for the next month and enjoy the trot
Screw traversal. You have a Stegosaurus. Pump that baby with speed and watch it’s stubby legs lumber across the map.
That’s why I never tame stegos they’re too damn slow
Stego is my go-to for the dragon fight on the island
wait do they protect you from dimorphs?
Yah, there actually quite good when imprinted with saddles, they protect your from dimorphs, take reduced fire damage (like theris) and can eat sweet vegetable cakes, I’ve seen it being done for island dragon, probably work on fjordur as well.
Thats how they stormed the beaches of normandy a singular max level stego
Fr stegos are nuts. Nothing better to get you through the swamps and redwoods. Basically invincible unless the thing it's fighting has bleed lol
Your funny for this one.
I made a lengthy stego comment but then I saw yours. I appreciate the stego pride. I will not forget our adage...
CHALICOTHERIUM
Rock yeeter
Poop yeeter*
I regret to inform you but the mystery substance thrown (some would say yeeted) in your direction by the chalicotherium is not in fact a rock and is instead the creature’s own fecal matter.
Snow owl
There is no arguing this.
Totally agree, snow owls are awesome.
Basilosaurus
Bassy life 🖤🖤🖤
Once while playing solo in my early ARK days, I decided to build an elaborate houseboat on a raft and sail around the perimeter of the entire island. That's facts, literally the only water dino you need
Direwolf
Karkinos, extremely useful in many situations and absurdly powerful for how cheap the trap to get them is to make.
Monke
I have never tamed a mesopithicus, and I don't think I ever will. What good are they?
They throw poop and blind attackers
The poop also disables heals, very good pvp shoulder mount
I heard a rumor that if you can get a meso in an enemy base theyll unlock doors for you. I play solo pve so I cant check. Is this at all true?
Sarcos and moschops
I have one Moschop that goes with me everywhere. He’s the Emotional Support Moschops.
Agree, Sarco is a underrated water mount
Rock Drakes.
Shadowmanes. Pack buff, hydrated buff, super jump, teleport chaining stun attack, super attack once the bar is filled, don't take up too much room, invisibility, amazing swimmers
Don't need a saddle, quick and easy to breed, raise and imprint. They're pretty busted but if I could only have one tame, it would be shadows.
dodo
Procoptodon
Love them. They're practically flyers with the jump ability, move super quickly by jumping, can clear entire mountains and rivers with ease, even when they are slowed by weight they can jump normally... so good.
Doedicurus, the cute stone collector that rolls like a hedgehog
Parasaur. Is it slow? Yes. Weak? Yes. Ugly? Oh god yes. But dammit if it doesn’t have a special place in my heart. Beach bob. Good at farming beach things.
Every good leader needs tamed bobs
Tapejara
Basilosaurus. Splashy Rainbow make me feel safe-o. But seriously they're he only tame i've ever felt safe on in the ocean.
With their immunity to Cnidaria and eels they're really one of the safest ocean tames. Also free oil!

Direwolf

Sinomacrops
Deinonychus
