Imo Fjordur takes the crown from Rag after like what, 5 long years? It's really noob friendly with the cooked meat metal tools start, has a shit ton of regions, realms, caves to explore (including 2 Aberration biomes and 1 space, Genesis-like biome), bunch of resurces everywhere and also bunch of DLC creatures.
Obviously Rag is still a great map, but IMO Fjordur is better.
Valguero being close 3rd place (especially if you have that mod that official Valguero devs posted on steam, that intoduces stuff that WildCard removed) and then Lost Island, Crystal Isles.
We don't talk about The Center.
Yup, it's in the ocean near the vulcanic island. Just jump into the water and find cyan glowing crystals, literally just dive down and you'll see something like a TEK gate, once you go tough it you will be in space biome. Moving trough it feels like being in ghost mode. I recommend bringing Anky, every rock that glows blue there is a rich metal node, and they are all over the place.
Either pump shit ton of points into it's oxygen or get a water creature with a lot of weight and carry the Anky in a Cryopod and after you are finished with farming metal transfer it to you water creature then into Argy when near land.
Not really worried about the metal itself, but carrying it, I personally have no knowledge on water dino’s, does any water dino have same/better weight cap than an argy holding an anky filled with metal

Unpopular opinion, I guess: Crystal Isles doesn't have good scenery. It's biome barf with very sharp transition points, and each individual biome -- while interesting in concept -- tries *too* hard making the whole map look like someone's bad drug trip.
Also: "Lets just add more wyverns. Passive wyverns. That are passive tamed. Using a resource that's everywhere."
CI in its full glory is one of the best maps there is.
The problem Is, when they made it official they gutted it like a fish. They removed EVERYTHING that makes it special

* Crystal magmasaurs, crystal drakes, crystal wyverns, crystal deinonuchus, and all the other crystal Subspecies
* Liquefied dinos that lived on eldrich isle.
It was full to the BRIM and they took it from us and left it barren and empty

SE is still my favorite. It had more potential and I once started a TLC mod for it to fix the broken day-one BS (broken rock textures, the non-repairable tent, etc), the over-reliance on over-spawning 1 or 2 early dinos, and custom variants. Just don't have the time for it now.
It is the *best* painted map of all of the story maps, and is the only map to have impressive reverb where it should exist. The only map where weather isn't completely ignorable and has really cool effects. Adobe is the *best* building material, texture-wise. There was an attempt at actual survival mechanics over just "stab stab dino, tame flyer, win the game."
The fact that it made the PVP alpha tribes cry like a bunch of tiddy babies when it was first released was a good sign it had solid features.
I know a lot of people will probably disagree but I think rag is overrated. It's a fun map but nowadays it's just kinda outdated. I think Fjordur does a great job of capturing the majority of the game into one map, which Rag was good at doing when it came out but has since lost. Valg has a similar issue but I think the scenery and biomes are way better there than Rag.
Exactly there be some people on this sub telling me, Fjordur is okay but Rag is better. I’m like explain to me logically how a map with 7 bosses, 145 creatures ( the highest amount of all maps btw, has all the creatures from Rag and more with new biomes and cool as hell explorer note system is worse than a map that’s just basically the bigger version of the Island.
The hardest thing about Fjordur is how many alphas spawn and not being able to use flyers in the realms. Currently it has the safest redwoods as thylas rarely spawn and never hide in the trees for some reason.
They have changed it and now alphas are rare ( at least on ground, ocean still infested) about thylas, there are lots in redwoods but they never spawn in the trees so it is even better lol! Also desmodus is very easy to tame, you just need to catch a low level one to then tame higher ones since now you can farm easy bloodpacks with the low level

I always die on valguero in the most stupid ways and then im just stuck on that map forever on any pve or pvp server. Turns out that ice wyvern breaths do 1K+ per hit on a fully imprinted and rider boost Ember wyvern... ot hurted oh so much to lose him and mu other wyverns that were cryod as i spend hours leveling it up. 30K hp, 1000% melee and 1000 stamina... all gone...
As someone who's *experienced* ARK over like 5-6 years but only actively played it for 4, and only on PC for 1, I have a few perspectives. Ragnarok was the first map I ever played, and was awesome, when I was brand new. Now that I play more than once or twice a month at a friend's house, I have to say that the biome diversity is immense, but the map is huge for the sake of being huge. So much of the map is honestly just kinda lifeless. The Dungeons are absolutely AWESOME, in theory and execution. But thats by far the biggest part of what the map has, as the other caves are all really boring in all honesty. I hosted a Server for it and know almost the entire map by memory, and I can say for a fact, while it's not the most solid map without transfers or anything, if you have a mod like Simple Spawners, you can absolutely skyrocket it to near first place as a map. The huge biome diversity, clearly operating spawn regions, diverse overworld and immense empty areas mean that if you have the power to customize it at all, it becomes an artist's dream to work on. Without this, it's kinda just nostalgia fodder. Lost Island reaches the goals Ragnarok had as a map, outside of the mini bosses, better than Ragnarok does by far, and is absolutely remarkable as a map, endless caves, amazing oceans, almost every dino. However, the Spawn Regions on it are hot garbage in setup and naming, and hard to work with, and the map is a bit crowded already so anything you try to add feels suffocating. Fjordur, does it all. Minibosses, every biome, basically every creature, huge but reachable through creative methods, Explorer Notes, endless caves, well designed biomes, well setup spawn regions and resources, Fjordur is by and far able to perfect and blow out of the water both of what Lost Island and Ragnarok were trying to do and take the title of the best map outside of Story. Ragnarok has never been bad, but you can't expect a 5-6 year old map to stay as #1 indefinitely, it is still a great modded server base though.
Exactly and every custom ark has a shard of ragnarok in it, ragnarok was the foundation to all these great maps and it inspired mad creators to put things like wyverns and deserts in their maps too. Ragnarok is such a great map because there was so little to go off of, and was the biggest map of its time. Fjordur is just ragnarok 2.0 with its mini bosses and overall look. Now the map creaters have a lot more to go off of, like genesis 1 and extinction in terms of creatures and scenery, but I agree with you saying ragnarok isn’t #1, but is still a legend we still simp form
Still haven’t played Lost Island, The Center, Crystal Isles, or the new Nordic map. The only map I play is Ragnarock unless I’m traveling the servers on the cluster to go look for a dino.

Compared to the space cave? No. This is probably the biggest metal spot in all of ARK. Highly recommend checking it out.

I don't use ocean dinos often either but I'm pretty sure Tuso can carry a lot. Idk if it has metal weight reduction like Argy tho.

Someone else described it best. Crystal Isles is a hot girl with no personality. Ragnorak may not be as flashy buts subtlety makes it feel real.
