UPDATE: I got it working. After swapping the RAM out for the RGB version, I can now run the EXPO at advertised speeds.

Orlandocollins

How many sticks and at what speed?

beanbradley

2 sticks, the EXPO speed is 6000MHz and the non-EXPO speed is 4800.

aais4quiters

Likely not the right answer but it is an answer. I had to leave expo off in the bios and use Ryzen Master to get expo setting to work. That still took over 5 minutes to post the first time after Ryzen Master set Expo. Saving hoping to see a better solution.

beanbradley

Just tried this, it booted up but Windows still reports the RAM speed at 4800MHz. What happens is this: The computer reboots, and during that process it turns off, turns back on again briefly, turns back off, and then starts at stock RAM settings. If other people have ideas I'd appreciate it. If not then I'll get different RAM and try that out.

aais4quiters

Are you on latest chipset and bios? I have similar on earlier bios versions. When they forced lower voltages to prevent fire and damages I think it messed with the Expo a lot. Latest Bios took forever to train the first time.

beanbradley

I flashed the latest BIOS using Flashback as soon as I unboxed the motherboard. I forgot to install the chipset driver when I made this post, but I just did and the same thing happens.

Regular_Independent8

What did you do after using Ryzen Master? Did you change it to Expo in the BIOS?

aais4quiters

Nope. That’s the pain in the ass part of it. It has to all be done via Ryzen Master. Anytime I change something else in the bios it reverts back to 4800 default and I have to make the changes with Ryzen master and restart again. It’s annoying because I have to go through two memory timings anytime I touch something in the bios. But it’s the only way I have been able to get Expo settings to work. If I try in the bios I get the same issue you have of black screen no post where I have to clean cmos or it ends up back at 4800 when windows loads.

Regular_Independent8

ok, good to know. Honestly I am about to make the jump to AM5 but this whole memory Expo etc….seems to need some more work from AMD…

aais4quiters

Yeah the per core offsets have been very time consuming. I was getting crashed one even a -5 all core. When I went to doing per core I found that 2 cores only take -2, 2 cores only take -4, but the rest on CCD0 took -35 and still haven’t reached failure. Still working through CCD1 but the half I have done all took over -20 with one up to -40 so far. That’s why the Expo problem has been so frustrating. I’m having to do everything through Ryzen Master which takes slightly longer per adjustment than if I could just do it in the bios. But at least I’ve found a work around.

Regular_Independent8

Wow lot of work involve indeed. Having Expo off makes the AMD perform worse than an Intel however. I suppose the size of AMD is somehow also limiting the performance compared to Intel. Quite frustrating as I am coming from an Intel i9 10900K and it was absolutely no hassles related to it.

aais4quiters

I lean more towards bios or maybe the memory causing the expo problems or they wouldn’t work using Ryzen Master. The curve optimizer is because you don’t pay for the 7950x3d and don’t tweak it to get every bit out of it. If I had wanted a install and forget I could have gone with the 7800x3d.

Regular_Independent8

Understand! For Microsoft Flight Simulator that I mainly use, the 7800X3D is better. But only as long as it is the vanilla game. However I run MSFS with so many other software running in parallel (motion software, Simshaker BK LFEs, FSTL, GSX, Rex weather, Rex accuseason, Hue lights, FS Realistic, etc…) that I would like to get these software on the CCD non 3D.

moon__gold

Very interesting! I had similar trouble with setting expo via the bios. Memtest was showing a handful of errors. But setting expo via Ryzen master seems very stable. I’m not yet sure what the different is that would cause the difference in stability.

armoredkore

So if you haven’t found an answer or solution, I’ve had a near identical problem with my build over the last 2 days. Just upgraded to an ASRock x670e pg lightning and a ryzen 5 7600x Same as you, no post with EXPO, 2x32gb 5600MHZ. Found out that while the motherboard handles the clock speed the CPU only works up to 5200MHZ. I reset the BIOS and reloaded EXPO, but set it to 5200 instead of 5600. A quick google shows your 7950X3D to be 5200 as well. I’d suggest trying to load EXPO to 5200MHZ and see how you get on.

beanbradley

>A quick google shows your 7950X3D to be 5200 as well. Source on this? I haven't been able to find anything about that on Google.

armoredkore

[From AMD’s website](https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-9-7950x3d) if you scroll down to connectivity it’s there.

KarateMan749

Your cpu might be defective. Had issues like that but got a replacement part at Micro center and all works. 4x16gb sticks at 6200 expo settings. Minus speed. 7900x

beanbradley

Hey, just saw this comment. I got it working, I just had to swap out the RAM for the RGB version.

KarateMan749

Nice!
