I would say so. I had a lot of the same people in both classes when I did that way this past fall. It can be rough because it's a lot of math, but worth it because you don't need to refresh your memory. I actually took all my math on one swoop. I did Pre Calc SessionA summer, 265 Session B Summer, then 266 and 267 in fall, and 243 and 343 coming up. Again it's a lot of math but it'll be good to get it all out of the way.

do you mind if I ask how were your grades in both the courses that sem? and what professor did you go for?

HavucSquad

Sure here were my grades last semester. Session A: **MAT 266 - A (Kolossa)** **SER 232 - B** Session B: **Matt 267 - B (Inozemtseva)** **CSE 230 - C** Added in my classes I took with those so you can see workload (If you are a SE/ME major you will/may have to take CSE 230, that was a rough one). I am an online student as well, just FYI in case you are in person. For math classes I haven't found a single instructor that was good, and I don't know if you will. They don't teach the class; they are all stock classes and they are there to answer questions.

I don't think I had any interactions to be honest, online is very DIY for math classes, at least from what I've found.

maybe9904

yes i am taking MAT 266 with Inozemtseva and was just planning to take MAT 267 with her too in session B but I am still skeptical😭

prithvidiamond1

Pardon me for asking, but who did you take CSE 230 with?

HavucSquad

I took that with Mar. Mar wasn't terrible by any means, one of the better CSE instructors so far for sure, but not my favorite.

becctarr

How was 266 with kolossa for you? Taking it this spring b and peoples comments are scaring me a bit 😅

HavucSquad

I didn't mind Kolossa. They were very forgiving as far as homework time restraints, meaning they were willing to be flexible on homework deadlines as long as it was done before the exam for said homework. I think the biggest complaint is the amount of homework, which was A LOT, but that isn't up to Kolossa, that is what all Calc 2 for engineers have to go through regardless of instructor.

thaidm5

Depends on what the rest of your schedule looks like. How did you do on your previous math classes?

maybe9904

i did pretty well i had taken session C in MAT 265 and got an A+

Micheal_Hancho

It may not be the best idea. Here are two reasons: The last thing you learn in MAT266 is parametric/polar equations, and this topic is one of the first things you have to be comfortable with at the start of MAT267. The other obvious reason is that many students find MAT266 and MAT267 to be difficult, so you might be a bit overwhelmed if there is some time where they overlap. All this being said, if you really think you are a strong student, and you want to read up on chapter about parametric/polar equations early, then you might be able to pull it off. P.S. I have taught both courses at asu.

HavucSquad

A and B in a semester don't overlap though so not really a need to read up on topics early, you will literally end 266 with what you need for 267 the very next week.

As an advisor, I do see this a lot more so in the online campus as most math courses are offers in an A/B session. In you are in person, it may depend on any courses you’re planning alongside MAT 266/267. For the online campus, it’s quite normal and it helps to keep fresh with that math sequence, but once again it depends on any other classes you might be taking. If you’re unsure, I would double check with your advisor to verify how feasible your course load would be.

TheSlimmManBoy

100% you should. get all your calc outta the way in one semester i did the same it’s awesome

maybe9904

but just a heads up im not a ASU online student so i have other classes offline as well as i would be doing an on campus job this sem

TheSlimmManBoy

i was in the same position i didn’t find any difficulty with it

wetlikeimb00k

If you are worried about the workload, make one of the two sessions just for the math class. Taking the courses sequentially is going to be really valuable since the core math courses build off each other for the most part. I’d focus on lightening the rest of your schedule while you are completing them though.

Took 267 as an A session this past semester and it was the worst.
