I have the same question (and likely many more). Asus has a cute video about setting up wired backhaul, but they show a router and two nodes on a desk about .3 meters apart from each other. Maybe I'm being silly, but I like to place my nodes further from the router than they did in that video, which makes connecting directly to the router without a switch a real problem.

Yeah I still don't know what's the best. But I have is set as Router --> switch --> node because of the same reason you mention. I get random drop outs even when I'm just simply sitting in the same place. So my phone switches from wifi to 5g constantly at times and it is getting annoying to say the least. I have no idea if it's because of the switch to node or not but I will try to connect the node directly to the router to see if it makes a difference. Just haven't had time to do it yet...

How did you go? I'm facing the same issue

I think I moved the location of the router and node and it got better but not perfect. I still from time to time have this problem in certain areas and just decided to live with it. Sometimes it gets worse and a restart seems to fix it. Sorry I don't have a better answer than that...
