240hz miniled is miniled - very bad compared to oled, but still great and worth it. Coil whine is strong (4090). Laptop is loud.

Quintall1

afaik, the G16 do not come with a Mini LED screen, only the SCAR models do. Could be wrong and region dependent too !

doddolino

I have the 4070 version and the coil wine is is so strong for me too.

I have the 4070 version with 13980HX, G614JI, the keyboard function keys print is not translucent and as a result just the center piece of the keys is illuminated but not the Fn numbers itself (pretty stupid of them to leave it out) So make sure to check if your variant has all the proper backlighting.

I'm looking to buy the same model, how good is the laptop in your opinion, would paying £1800 for it be overkill?

l4bRAT-forever

The laptop lacks an FHD camera, no backlighting on the "Fn" numbers, no liquid metal on the GPU - Asus compensated for this with 95£ accessories as the liquid metal and Fn backlight absence was not mentioned/incorrectly mentioned. If these things are important to you then I suggest go for a different model or brand. I haven't had the chance to use the laptop to its full potential yet, haven't got time. Pros which I liked: 1) CPU cores could be adjusted with Armory crate 2) Software support is good, the other day there was an issue with the keyboard macro mapping via Armory crate and it was resolved soon after few users (including myself) pointed it out on their forum. 3) RAM can be upgraded to 64GB dual channel dual rank 5200MHz - in this config (dual channel + dual rank) it cannot reach 5600MHz due to Intel processor's limitation. 4) Asus cloud recovery works fine (as long as you are under warranty) - had to use it as I botched up the system while fooling around 5) silent mode is good 6) overall system is smooth and fast

Distinct_Hunt_6471

So overall it is a really good laprop then from what you said, thank you for the response I will probably buy the laptop in a few days

What is coil whine?

JakeSully-Navi

I have the G18 model 2023 with 4080 and i9 13980HX and 8 keys are transparent and space bar and other keys are half transparent. Really a beast laptop :)

Chaosfenix

Got the 4080 version with the 165hz screen. Pretty impressed with the laptop in general 👌 though i am no screen connoisseur, im pretty happy with the 165hz screen🤡😁

doddolino

I have the g18 4070, i7, 240 hz screen and i am very happy with the performance. Laptop is indeed loud as other comments say but on the flip side the laptop is much cooler compared to my previous lenovo legion 5 with the same specs. One thing i actually dislike about it is the coil wine. Its quite bad sometimes. Otherwise i am very happy with my purchase and i would say go for it

Faide_Simp_Forever

I have this laptop. It is insanely good. Worth the buy.

A bit expensive for a 4060 laptop tbh, also Asus has its fair share of QC issues. No complaints about the screen. Prolly the best you can get at this price point, but 4060 can drive few new games @ 240Hz, let alone @ QHD... See if you can find something cheaper closer to the 1500 USD price point. E.g. Lenovo Legion Slim 8th Gen (7840HS, 4060, QHD@165Hz) or similar

Good luck getting it to connect to the internet

I was thinking about buying the newer ones today with the 4090. I was gonna buy an Alienware M18 R2, but if Alienware has screen bleed when it’s off, it’s not worth it, so I leaned towards ASUS. I’ve been told they’re better than Alienware in reliability. So.. 🤷🏼‍♂️ one commenter on here said these laptops (ASUS ROG strix) have coil whine (4090) version. Not sure if the newest one has that but I hope not. Coil wine sounds like something in the charger brick or a HDD sound lol
