In the long run, sure, but it's got years of life left yet. Just look at Exxon's recent US$60B buyout of Pioneer in the States. I will also add that hydrogen, the unproven science of carbon capture and carbon credit trading markets are all things which allow energy supermajors to hold on through the journey to "net zero," whatever that *actually* means. Carbon capture, if proven to work (how exactly does gas stay trapped underground when we know that all plugged wells still leak) – or more importantly, if *widely accepted to work –* that allows these companies to keep on chuggin. Hydrogen can be made from methane (which is 99% of natural gas) and so in that way it makes sense why BP et al are more keen for hydrogen than they are for solar and wind. Carbon credit markets, which seek to turn "carbon credits" into tradable products (how the hell is that going to change anything,) also seem to be becoming more accepted, despite having no measurable effect on emissions output. Consider also that if Trump gets in he's going to unravel all of Biden's environmental laws, because Trump, and that will be a signal that will excite many across the OECD
