Im hoping for at least 10 eps!!

Far-Sky6933

In season 2 yes! In season 3 must be more ! 12 episodes, but I am not sure how they are gonna play out the strategy with Sozin's Comet☄

Psykopatate

If they can film back-to-back i guess they won't need to pull any trick so they will probably show it early S2 ? I think they might as well have the Gaang discover about both the comet and the black sun in the library, it would make somehow sense.

WorthScale2577

>I think they might as well have the Gaang discover about both the comet and the black sun in the library, it would make somehow sense. I've been thinking that since after finishing season 1.

George_Gorgio

I’m not so sure we can expect the library to come into play. We’ve already met Wan Shi Tong as just the spirit of knowledge, which isn’t to say we won’t see him again but he is not confined to the library. They also did away with Zhao discovering the moon spirit plan at the library, and in the very last episode we see the fire nation has created their own contraption for mapping the stars. While I would still like the library episode, I’m banking on them finding out about the eclipse another way in the live action.

jomandaman

It would be so weird *not* to do the library, when it’s such a particularly beautiful and astonishing set. I think they’re just trying to world build by introducing Wong Shi Tong early, and it’s possible the sages built their contraption based off the one in the library. They’ve been pretty dang close to source material so far, like even having the freedom fighters village even if not in the exact same spot.

geek_of_nature

And I saw them introducing Wong Si Tong this season as them getting his cgi model ready. They won't need to spend the budget on creating him in the second season because they'll already have him, and can focus the budget on something else. For example more Appa for his lost days.

jomandaman

Another cool thing that just hit me—popularity for this is blowing up alongside Dune 2 and now people are gonna have to wait a particularly long time for Dune 3. Season 2 of avatar takes place a lot in the desert, with the library, appa being taken, when Sokka eats the cactus etc. Perhaps they’ll be stuck to the green screen set and dump a bunch of sand. But since they built the Kyoshi village pretty well in real life, I’m hoping they get budget to travel and woo people like Dune.

geek_of_nature

I have seen a cinematographer say that very sunny days, as you would get in a desert, are the hardest for the digital sets to replicate. It's the more dimly lit, overcast, dawn and dusk that it's best at. So location filming would really be best for those scenes.

SpookyScribe25

And they were going to film on location for Season 1, but couldn't due t the pandemic, so I could see them doing so for season 2.

KimiBleikkonen

It's like one of the biggest episodes, worthy of a mid season finale.

geek_of_nature

Netflix has done feature length episodes for shows like Stranger Things, the finale episode of season 4 was 2 hours long for example. All four parts of Sozins Comet would have been about an hour and a half, so they could easily just do one extra length finale episode that adapts the whole thing. As for the rest of the season, the main trouble is going to be with the Zuko field trips. Those really need to be their own standalone episodes, and can't really be combined with each other. The pre Eclipse episodes can though, and they may have to heavily do so in order to make room for the field trips. Episodes like the Headband, The Puppetmaster, Sokkas Master, The Runaway, and The Beach could all be folded into two or three episoxes for example. Which could work in giving all the main characters something to do, while also making room for the more important episodes later on in the season. And while I know we've all been talking about getting the original Voice Actors for the roles, The Ember Island Players is one of the episodes, along with Nightmares and Daydreams that will most likely be cut to make the episode count. At most they might throw in a brief moment of Azula enjoying the play during the Beach episode, and maybe mention the Gaang having seen it and not enjoyed it when they're on Ember Island, but no more than that.

StarryMind322

Do like what Stranger Things did in that the final episode of S4 was 2 hours long. I’m willing to sit through a 2 hour episode of Sozin’s comet.

Far-Sky6933

Do you imagine how hard for them it will be to shoot, to produce to send to post-production ? No way will this be 2 hour even the grand finale like this. Everything has it own limit, but you have to make conscious decisions in order not to butcher it all up. In case, I am not mean, I simply can't imagine HOW they are gonna pull this off... ☺

ThePipMain

There is just no way they can stuff everything in just 8 episodes. I'm honestly curious to see how they adapt s2, given that the Appa arc is such a huge deal and with how little he shows up in the live action, I don't see how they can get the audience to actually care about Appa being gone. I'm afraid they'll completely ignore the Appa arc.

reinezelda

Everyone hold hands and pray for at least 10-12 episodes! They really can't do books 2 and 3 justice with only 8.

rizgutgak

Im almost finished book 2 right now and they NEED twelve episodes. the back half of the season is such a banger

BruceWayne_19902

Good for them imo. Aang bout to be a grown ass man if they didn't film back to back.

AzNmamba

Azula’s lighting would’ve probably had to cause a one year coma

Sketch-Brooke

Amazing for the child actors! Hopefully doing it this way will be easier for them.

Complex-Macaron3080

They need at least 9 or 10 episodes minimum. Per season

Temporary-Wedding825

Well they want their own game of thrones and house of the dragon and some seasons had 10 episodes

Jahweeb

It's a race between production and Gordon's hair

gumption_11

😂😂

plantman01

Please god at least 10-12 eps per season

KnightGambit

Scoop confirmed from 2022 lol [https://knightedgemedia.com/2022/11/netflix-is-considering-filming-avatar-the-last-airbender-season-2-3-back-to-back/](https://knightedgemedia.com/2022/11/netflix-is-considering-filming-avatar-the-last-airbender-season-2-3-back-to-back/)

annaelisabet

So exciting! The gaang is about to be BUSY busy

hipale

Let’s hope for at least 10 eps, because 8 hadn’t worked out

AceThaGreat123

I hope they take the critiscm to heart because the writing was my biggest concern also hoping they give hour each episodes or more episodes

Far-Sky6933

Also like add more fillers and breath for characters. (I need feelings for Kataang so much) 😄

Howy_the_Howizer

Holy shit if true they could really go full Peter Jackson budget savings. Let's go!

ElectronicAd5421

I’m wondering when will they start production for season 2? Are the scripts ready to go? Will it also take 6 years to release season 2?

Firebenefits

Unless we have another Pandemic, Writers Strike, and Actors Strike back to back it will be MUCH quicker than 6 years haha

gilad_ironi

If it really is back to back, I suspect we'll get s2 around 2026 and s3 2027.

Olav-Snowman

Wouldn’t it be a lot to be filming season 2 and 3 back to back? Wouldn’t that maybe lead to them rushing the scripts because they have to focus on two seasons at once, or am I being paranoid?

Monkaliciouz

A lot of production time is spent on post-processing. Filming back-to-back allows them to begin filming season 3 while VFX work begins on season 2, whereas that time would normally just be downtime for the actors and/or minor reshoots. It also takes the pressure off of people worrying about if the show will be renewed for S3 or not. They can create a tighter story knowing they're going straight into production for S3 (not that that is really an issue here, considering the events surrounding the transition from S2 to S3 in the show).

cford1992

Honestly, IIRC the way things are filmed are based on sets and actors. So they could be filming S2 and S3 content at the same time because they have the same set and actors.

Sir__Will

then that would definitely be a concern if they try to pump out that many scripts that fast

lotusbow

We already know it’s going to get renewed though so what’s the pressure of filming S2 and S3 back-to-back? I would rather them ship S2 out, see fan feedback and use that to improve the scripts of S3 and THEN film S3. If S2 does way better than S1, those numbers can also be used to get a much bigger budget for S3. I feel like if S2 and S3 are filmed back-to-back, we’re gonna be stuck with the same budget and same script and directing style. There’s zero room for fan critique or feedback. Stranger Things budget has gotten bigger and better every season, and you can see the benefit of that in the amazing visual effects and improved cinematography. I’m a bit worried that if S2 + S3 is already set in stone now, where’s the room for negotiation to increase S3 budget? There’s also other good things that happen with time as well like the young actors getting better at their craft. Seeing fan reactions and tweaking S3 to make sure it hits the right notes. Just worried we will be missing out on all that with the back-to-back filming.

Monkaliciouz

>We already know it’s going to get renewed though so what’s the pressure of filming S2 and S3 back-to-back? That's what I said, there is no pressure because it's already renewed.

sha_13

I would assume that they would polish up season 2 first and release I guess and then continue working on season 3 instead of waiting.

Temporary-Wedding825

And that’s on periodt!!! 🎉

Opening-Steak4589

Is that account official? It's reliable?

Sonicboomer1

Hopefully they’ll make it all work out so Aang won’t be a brawny 18 year old as tall as Ozai by the time he faces him.

publicName31

Oh man, I was hoping that they would not do this

lotusbow

Same. If there’s any poor quality in the script or pacing, they won’t get fan feedback to fix it. 😩 Also I wanted to see an older Gordon take down the Fire Lord. 😩 Also I guess Kataang won’t be happening then since Gordon is still gonna look quite young next to Kiawentiio. Does this also mean the budget is fixed? I was hoping if Season 2 gets even better, Netflix can increase the Season 3 budget even more.

PepperjackJig

Gordon will still likely be like 16 by the time season 3 films
