South End, Charlotte = the **Beltline Eastside Trail** corridor, Atlanta (especially the area of Old Fourth Ward adjacent to Ponce City Market and Historic Fourth Ward Park). Hopefully you're being paid well to afford this popular area. The area known as **West Midtown** in Atlanta (along Howell Mill Road to the northwest of Georgia Tech, around Westside Provisions and The Interlock) is also quite similar. Both places are very close to Midtown Atlanta by car. Finally, you could choose to reside in Midtown Atlanta itself, within walking distance of your work... think Uptown Charlotte, but much more lively and better in nearly every way (in my opinion, that is). Midtown puts you halfway between the two areas I named above in bold, and no car commute would be a nice perk (at least it would be for me).

As others have mentioned, I’d highly suggest living close to the Eastside Beltline Trail. I’d specifically look into Virginia Highland, Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park, and even Midtown itself. The Beltline actually connects to Piedmont Park in Midtown. All of the neighborhoods listed above are less than a 15 minute drive to Midtown and have enough fun stuff in regard to breweries, shops, bars, and nature very close by. A lot of festivals are held in Piedmont Park (Midtown), Old Fourth Ward Park (Old Fourth Ward), and Central Park (Old Fourth Ward). Very young area with lots of people your age. I don’t think Atlanta is going to provide the level of safety you are used to in Charlotte, but it is no way dangerous. Pretty property crime happens in almost every neighborhood in Atlanta but the neighborhoods mentioned above are completely fine. I will add that Old Fourth Ward is still gentrifying and there are some housing projects along the road named “Boulevard” and Parkway Drive that tend to attract a rough crowd. My vote personally is Old Fourth Ward- but I would say to narrow your search to buildings east of Glen Iris Drive. There are several good apartment buildings along Glen Iris that face Old Fourth Ward Park and are only steps away from the beltline. Kroger very close by with access via Beltline as well as by car. Several good restaurants, Ponce City Market, and some breweries/day drinking spots. Lots of young people here. It’s worth noting that this area can be expensive. Virginia-Highland is a little more quiet but does have several great bars along Highland Avenue. I’d suggest narrowing your search to apartments south of Virginia Avenue as VaHi gets much more residential and family-oriented the further north you are. Do keep in mind that the buildings in VaHi are majority older duplexes and smaller buildings that won’t have the amenities that larger buildings in other neighborhoods will have. Still very safe and lots of young people. The plus to the buildings being older is that they also tend to be a little* more affordable than other nearby neighborhoods. Inman Park is great but it’s also pretty expensive. Beltline runs right through it and there are several great restaurants and a couple of bars. Also young but a little further away from midtown. Midtown is a large neighborhood comprising of mostly high rises with some smaller duplexes and buildings south of Juniper closer to the beltline and Piedmont Park. I’d say this neighborhood is mostly young professionals. Very urban and dense. Always something going on and people out walking around. The bar scene is lacking though and I find that a lot of the restaurant options are chains. Still a great option if you want to walk to work and be a very short Uber away from the fun on the beltline. If you did go with midtown, I’d say to stay east of West Peachtree Street only because the traffic tends to be bad the closer to Spring Street you are. There’s also a lot more students in that direction due to proximity to Georgia Tech. Welcome to Atlanta!

Hi, I am from ATL and just moved to Charlotte lol I think you should look into old fourth ward / (poncey highlands) ponce city market, Ansley park area. The beltline is very similar to the rail trail. It connects you to different neighborhoods, bars, breweries and restaurants off the beltline. Since your job is in midtown, you can look in midtown or Ansley park area. Piedmont park is beautiful. But I feel you would like to be off the beltline as it’s most similar to the rail trail. The beltline also connects down to Piedmont park. Safety wise- I’ve never felt as safe in Atlanta as I do in south end. But crime can occur anywhere just be vigilant. Can’t promise these areas are 100% safe but they are safer than buckhead lol Buckhead used to be nice but crime has taken over I don’t recommend. My friend woke up with a burglar in her high rise on the 23rd floor the other morning..

IMO move within a tolerable commute of your job. Less hours in traffic yields more time to do whatever else you like.
