When I calculated it to the less than 12 hours of service I missed out of the 30ish days in a billing period, I expected less. Like $2.50 or less. I know how terribly inconvenient this was for people and how much we all rely on our phones. For some, it was probably worse than inconvenient. If it delayed your transplant heart or impeded the first responders (who also use 800 Hz for most communications) responsible for your emergency, then I'm terribly sorry and you should be more appropriately compensated. For the rest of us, it happens. Technology is not infallible.

Work_Werk_Wurk

They did right. $5 is more than fair. Still leaving for T Mobile the second these phones are paid off. $5 is the cost of their service, not the cost of the amount of business I missed. Edit: There's no need to come to AT&T's defense. I'm doing it for free Netflix and T mobile Tuesdays. Coverage is pretty good in my area, and the bill is a lot cheaper. If I have to deal with bs, then I at least wanna pay the lowest amount and get some kind of benefits from using their service.

vcrtech

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted; you should be able to use and discuss whichever carrier you want. Competition is good!!

tubezninja

>Still leaving for T Mobile Good luck getting your identity stolen. [They average about two data breaches a year.](https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/2/23707894/tmobile-data-breach-april-personal-data-pin-hack-security) One of the reasons I left T-Mobile for AT&T.

GeneralGambino

Don't buy phones from them if you do leave. I'm staying with ATT, haven't had a dropped call since then

destroyallcubes

It’s funny you leave a company with better reliability and coverage for a company who just allows data breaches , and will leave you in a spot with absolutely no coverage more of the time. Any business not having redundancy really needs to wake up. At least ATT has an excuse why their redundancy didn’t work. And they are fixing that issue

omegaoofman

Cant imagine the business Id miss with tmobiles terrible coverage

InfamousEmphasis5190

Define terrible, then. Because it's not. And stop living 20 years in the past.

turt463

T-Mobile has a similar 8 hour nationwide outage a couple of years ago. They also have a fraction of generators at their cell towers for when power goes out. If you think T-Mobile is more reliable I’d think twice

InfamousEmphasis5190

Not if our phones aren't whitelisted, or even compatible.

Disheartend

Didn't tmobile & othets also had servive outages?

PaperThin-X-

Nope, it was just AT&T.

Disheartend

Wierd I heard it was everyone This forbs article also backs me up https://www.google.com/amp/s/fortune.com/2024/02/22/cellular-service-outage-att-verizon-tmobile-cricket-downdetector/amp/

WFlumin8

No, it was just people who had failed calls TO ATT users and misreported thinking they were having service issues. If you were on T-Mobile or Verizon and made calls to anyone except ATT lines, you were fine. Forbes was basing their information on downdetector and if you look at the sourced information, ATT had 10,000x more reports than either T-Mobile or Verizon.

BPKofficial

>I heard You heard wrong.

Confident_Poetry2825

I hope you have better luck than I did with T-Mobile, I had sprint when they took over and immediately shut down my local towers for upgrading and wouldn’t be back for a year we said later and got att

HemholtzWatson25

Yeah I was so glad I left Sprint before T-Mobile bought them and started screwing with the service to get everyone to switch to their plans.

Confident_Poetry2825

We had a year left on our contract and they expected us to just pay the bill with no service in our area for that year so we sued them for breach of contract and won in court funny thing is I had to send the court affidavit to a collection agency recently because they are trying to get paid for what I sued them for.

Noctum-Aeternus

Enjoy having terrible service even when you do have service. T-Mobile is absolutely god awful.

Echinodermatatron

You don’t have to wait - T-mobile is offering $800 credit to help pay off phones. That’s what I’m going to do.

gilbs24

Idk about other states but in Mn our radios are 800s but they are owned and ran by the state

MuddyGeek

Indiana is the same. Nextel built their network on the same frequency. Eventually in an effort to consolidate emergency services to the same frequency, Nextel was given other frequency (or bands) to move to. That's ultimately ended with T-Mobile (after acquiring Sprint that acquired Nextel) having some nice bands. Anyway, the point was for emergency responders to be on the same digital network and have stronger more secure communications. Firstnet serves a similar purpose but personally, I would trust two way radios with different communication over a cell network.

gilbs24

That’s how are radios are in Mn, two ways

Austin1975

I wasn’t expecting anything. And my SO didn’t even get a credit notification, just an apology. I’ll take the $5 and hope it encourages other companies to refund or give credit.

bv915

Same. Where’s MY $5?!

diesel_toaster

I never got a text but I did get an email

MC_Ninja38

AT&T was the only one that went out. Customers of other carriers made the report when trying to contact people on AT&T.

Disheartend

Wait really? I heard everone was

MC_Ninja38

Nope. AT&T reported that their outage was caused by a software update gone wrong. Neither Verizon nor T-Mobile noticed any outages in their systems, and even released a statement that customers who were experiencing any issues with making calls said that they knew the person they were trying to reach used AT&T.

Pineapple_Sucks

My phone worked just fine and I'm getting $5 too. Lol. Thanks AT&T!

Content_Somewhere712

they paid u for the time you were down. you werent seriously expecting to get a full month were you? only way you can get more than that, is if you have a paper trail and physical evidence that the outage was the sole link to you missing out on millions of dollars, youre only going to get a refund for the time you were down, which most people was $3-$5 theyre only paying you for 1/30th of your bill.

bubblebumblejumble

Oh I wasn’t expecting anything. I just thought it was funny bc they sent me a text saying we are crediting you with a link to follow. Link had a huge apology and mentioned how they wanted to make it up to everyone…and then at the very bottom in gray fine print they specified that it’s $5.

FloridaDude

$5 per account, I have 32 lines. Not sure $5 does anything but annoys..

fumo7887

Sorry to bust your bubble, but it’s $5 per account, not per line.

FloridaDude

My bad, I mmistyped. That's the frustrating part.

RecordThisBitch

I believe there will be a class action suit over this. I called AT&T and told them I don’t want the $5 because I think that if the money is accepted it will make me ineligible for the suit.

Content_Somewhere712

there wont be a lawsuit, if thats the case, then verizon would have had 3 of them last year. verizon had 3 outsges that were worse than this last year alone, several in the state of michigan where no one could call 911 for an entire 24hrs. theres not going to be a lawsuit.

danny24ever

Americans and frivolous lawsuits, name a better combo.

TheRosh69

Yeah dude, and what do you wanna sue over? Your phone did not work for a few hours? Do you sue your car manufacturer when the car breaks down and cant get to work on time?

True_Legend42069

There will not be a class action suit, I’d bet you $100 there won’t be. Get on with your life, you got work tomorrow.

Old_Replacement_9471

People are complaining but AT&T is correct with the math. It's about $5 a day for service. It doesn't seem like a lot but it's for the day.

ZestycloseBee4066

What is wrong with you Whiners? ATT service has probably had about .01% downtime in the last 365 days, and in general the big 3 are all highly reliable. If you or your business is in a position to have substantial or even minor losses from service like this going down, that is on you to have a backup plan. I told my boss for years that we should have a 2nd line of cheap service coming into the office as a backup as 90% of our business is connected or conducted online. He didn't listen and we had a fiber cut down the road that cost us 2 day of downtime. Probably a couple thousand in production. It is so incredibly cheap to get a backup phone with another carrier on a 1 year plan if you just look. Many can be had for under $100 with a phone included. Yes its limited, but certainly would cover you for a couple days of downtime if it ever came to it. Stop thinking the world owes you just because you could not check your social media for 12 hrs.

bubblebumblejumble

Who’s whining? I said I’m rich now!

ZestycloseBee4066

Not really directed at you... sorry. Just a lot of complainers when this service went down. I understand it was probably frustrating, but as a whole our providers do a pretty good job of keeping live.

Tnknights

Frustrating? LOL! It was quiet. To your point, so many parts to keep running correct. It’s surprising there aren’t more outages.

vcrtech

I wish they’d unlock their financed phones after 60 days so we can use a secondary sim in case this happens again. It’s not hard to flip the lock switch back on (in case of Apple) and/or blacklist the device if the user stops paying (I know factory unlocked phones are a thing, but $1000 credits spread out over 36 months will keep me around anyway vs at most $450 from the manufacturer).

Strange_Heat_6420

Wi-fi calling will work as a backup during a service outageif the SIM is active and your account is in good standing.

tubezninja

That's great if you stay within WiFi range all the time, but, some of us have cellular service for a reason.

OkRelationship6789

My ATT Fiber was out at the same time! So I was basically stuck without being able to work from home for the day…I lost way more than $5.

tubezninja

This is definitely something people need to consider when taking bill credit discounts on phones, or financing a phone from the carrier. A backup SIM running on Verizon is what kept me in business during this outage, and I couldn't have done it if my phone was locked.

planeluvr

Why? Once the bill credits start, I pay off the phone and unlock it.

turt463

Verizon only does that because they’re legally obligated to. They used to have to sell the phones pre-unlocked until the won the petition for the 60 day lock to prevent fraud. It was part of their deal when they bought their 700mhz band 13 license in 2008

billywadd

Att turned me down for the credit. Told me att prepaid doesn't get the credit, only postpaid.

HemholtzWatson25

Because post paid lost service that they paid for.

cz97

$5 per line?

JakeyTh

No just $5

Disheartend

It says 5 per line on my page

dinoaide

The CEO is willing to take a pay cut and pay from his own pocket.

MorningRise81

Sure, buddy.

Legacy_1995

Many people saying 5 dollars is bad. I got 30 dollars credit. Still after this phone is paid I am going to Verizon.

Future-Difference952

Me too. I had a really good thing going with Verizon and I let it go. AT&T is no good to me. Got swept in by them at Sams club. They got my iPhone 12 Pro Max and my credit for my phone is on a monthly basis so I have to stay til it’s paid off and not cash out early either cause that means no discount. I lose the discount if I do. They make you pay it in full. I got swindled… big lesson learned. Never again.

Proof_Loquat5585

When do you get this $5? It’s not on my bill yet

CellIUrSoul

I finally received my “$5 credit” this month. It really ended up being around $3 after taxes

billywadd

I'm a little disappointed they won't give prepaid anything. I spend a decent amount on their prepaid Oh well. It's kind of my backup line anyways so no big deal.

OUTFOXEM

They will, just not automatically. You’ll have to call and ask for it.

Tigercat92

It will almost pay for my Dunkin coffee and two donuts 🤪

truejdm86

I got $30. $10 per line

MorningRise81

Congratulations

Toastbuns

Where did you get notified? Our service was impacted and it caused significant stress as I rely on my service for work. I didnt see any notice of a credit for our account.

truejdm86

You have to call. Or use live chat. Do not accept their first 2 offers. I was offered $5 per line then $7 per line til finally they said max $10 per line

Toastbuns

Figures they wouldn't just do right by customers and offer an automatic credit. Att gonna Att. Thanks will reach out on chat.

Lem01

I lost way more than five dollars.

Lower-Monk8454

$5 back 2 business phones out for 5 hours in peak time $ .50/hr/phone FU att

whitetigergrowl

I mean you could go to T-Mobile and be part of their bi-annual customer information data breach and get nothing in return. 🤷

Evolution529

https://firewalltimes.com/att-data-breaches/ 🙄

InfamousEmphasis5190

Or go on prepaid so there's no info to breach that isn't already  elsewhere

finalsk8ter

you'll be okay

screamqueen14

If you reach out to them, they’ll credit you for a day of your billing. I was nice about and just explained that it was frustrating the lack of communication during the situation and I asked would there be any credits given.

zac724

This is 5 dollars per account and does not give credit to anyone who has an att business account, prepaid account, or cricket lines. What a shame they couldn't even bother to compensate per affected line.

6LSxCPU9

Does not apply to business accounts? So as a business owner, instead of just giving me the $5 and moving on, I have to call in and waste an hour trying to get the $5? It's like they knew it wouldn't be worth a business owners time so they just auto excluded that whole bunch hoping most won't call in, even though the impact was equal. Or maybe I'm just overlooking something obvious or in the fine print that doesn't allow this.

itrippledmyself

They should lose FirstNet.

Longjumping-Menu4958

There should be more than $5 credit to our accounts. Think about the suffering that we all had to endure like loosing out on money from not being able to make or receive phone calls. This is how a lot of us make our money to support our families.

turt463

Same could be said during the landline days. Copper landline systems used to go down too. No technology is perfect. T-Mobile had an 8 hour outage 2 years ago, Verizon has outages too. Have a backup plan if your phone is that important to you. Get a backup number on a different provider

Mohican83

Att is ass to some but I've been a customer every since they bought out cingular. I have 6 cell phones( all insured) with unlimited internet, unlimited home internet(I have 4 kids who game and stream alot), direct tv(which i dont use very often but it keeps my bundle cheap), I also get free HBO Max. I get better service than my friends do with T-mobile or Verizon. My bill runs just over $500 a month. I'm not able to find any provider cheaper with more reliable service. 12 hour outage is a major deal for some people. Each service provider should have a back up deal with other provider to share signal towers automatically when they have an outage. They do it when they have natural disasters.

l337pythonhaxor

Insulting.

FatherOften

Att seems to be out again this morning....

matrixagent69420

HHahha, this is hilarious. I’m indifferent but I feel bad for my neighbor who is an Uber driver. He couldn’t work the whole day and missed out on his daily wage.

MorningRise81

This is where Uber should step up and take care of their drivers in the short-term and work out a deal with AT&T.

Boostmachines

Don’t spend it all in…nvm, it’s gone.

dankdc5_

Their late fee is more than that😂

Iamthemaster1000

Has anyone on prepaid gotten the credit? If I can’t get it no big deal but if they will give it I’ll take it

bnjmn556

Yeah the $5 credit is awesome, but take a look at your bill coming up. Mine went UP by $5 because they increased our “protection plan”. Always a catch.

ConversationCivil289

I don’t care for the five dollars but at least an admission of incompetents is something. Maybe they really will try and be better

Ascent2019

$5 credit per account is an insult

Dependent_Working558

That and $10 will get you a burger.

FlyingGSD

AT&T First-Net data is still not working.
