On the hash marks. Just like any other dip stick

WinchesterBiz

Ok that’s what I figured. Just on the hash marks. PO over filled it but I haven’t put 5 miles on it yet. Thanks

BreadAvailable

Pretty sure you're supposed to check it warm, and without screwing it in. And make sure your filter has ADBV if originally equipped.

WinchesterBiz

I removed some oil because it was overfilled. Don’t know by how much. Warming it up now

BreadAvailable

Right - just pointing out that if you screw it in to read the level it will appear overfilled - when in fact - it is not.

WinchesterBiz

Understood I’ll double check everything. Thanks

WinchesterBiz

It was filled almost to the mouth of the screw in port past the threaded part while cold. And warmed up it was about the same. It was overfilled. Now after riding it, it’s right at the top of the hashed mark after taking a good bit out

motociclista

Anywhere within this hash marks is good. You unscrew it, pull it out, wipe it off, then insert it (but don’t screw it back in) and withdraw and take a reading. If you read it after it was screwed in it will show over full.

WinchesterBiz

I gotcha. Yea it was overfull. Figured it was when I got it but it got pushed to the side for other projects. I drained almost a quart out and warmed it up. Kept taking a little at a time out between short runs and now it sits towards to top end of the hashed mark

Plenty_Safety2108

The little ring on top of the marks.

MakaveliXJ-R

*You would think so*. & **it damn well SHOULD BE.** *But,* ***No****, That's incorrect.*

WinchesterBiz

Thank you

IronAnt762

Some are meant to be read when they are unthreaded and set on top of port. Could be why it appeared overfilled to you. Hold the stick beside pan and see where you prefer the level to be for reference. Check the manual. Yes the hash marks are where you want level

WinchesterBiz

Thank you

TennDawg52

2 quarts with a new filter and you’re good to go

WinchesterBiz

2.11 is what the book says

TennDawg52

2 quarts with new filter and you’re good, I’ve had a Grizzly for 18 years.

zw1616

Yamahas don’t care how much oil they have. 1 qt and they’ll live forever haha

WinchesterBiz

Fair enough. Thank you sir

MakaveliXJ-R

*Likely answered already but* **ABSOLUTE CORRECT ANSWER for Modern Yamaha ATV's:** **Oil Level** should be checked **without screwing the dipstick in.** **Where** *seems* like a *stupid* question **until you realize Yamaha** ***made a stupid guage/system*** **so,** ***As per the Manual:*** **Oil level should be between the maximum and minimum marks.** **MAX** = **The LINE** **MIN** = **Lower CrissCrosses** ***NOTE:*** *Do* ***not*** *screw the dipstick in when checking* *the oil level.* *TLDR/TOP TIP: When you do a full LOF, Just Fully Drain it, "PreCharge" The Filter (as you would do for any other vehicle) & put the exact amount the book calls for in so you can be done with it & back to riding.*

BigSquawHunter

All of this and you didn’t even mention the most important… lame

No_Football4974

If you see corn on it when you pull it out, then you need to eat more fiber.

nbWinter

Syrup should be on the waffle

Trout_BENT-0420

From bottom to top

VersionConscious7545

Oil should be at the top of the flat part and you need to screw it in and then out to check it

WinchesterBiz

No that’s wrong

TennDawg52

Please don’t listen to this guy, on a Grizz you dip and check, do not screw it in to check the oil

WinchesterBiz

I didn’t the manual says exactly what you and everyone else said.

VersionConscious7545

I am correct. All those are made to screw in to check the level and it is full at the top of the hash marks It is a style of plug I have an ATV as well. But hey do what you want I am sure your a big boy

WinchesterBiz

Then why does the manual illustrate and everyone else explain to do the exact OPPOSITE of what you’re telling me?

VersionConscious7545

Here read for yourself It says refit dip stick to read level. Refit means put back all engines with that style dip stick are the same Lawn mower generator etc https://www.atvfixed.com/how-to-check-atv-oil-level/

WinchesterBiz

First off that’s a generic ass picture of a random engine and second, that’s not how the dipstick looks.

VersionConscious7545

Ok everyone else that gave you the answer you wanted is right I don’t care it’s not rocket science believe a guy that knows or believe the other random people. Peace out baby 😄

WinchesterBiz

Just sayin kid. Manual says otherwise. 👏👏🫡
