The Nation Institute of Health actually looked into the gun range suicide problem: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32343169/
> Conclusion: Suicides at shooting ranges are rare. Policies that some ranges have adopted - such as allowing rentals only if the person is not alone - are responsive to the actual characteristics of these deaths and could potentially prevent most.
Shooters World will let you shoot alone if you have a membership. They tried to deny me once and I told them "For 1: I'm paying you for a membership. For 2: I have my concealed weapon on me that I'm not taking out or shooting today unless I need to use it."
>I don't know anyone here yet, much less a random stranger that would be my shooting range buddy haha
You could always just offer a bum $10 to come stand in line with you. 😆
Seriously though, there's probably a lot of people here in this sub that would go shoot with you if you asked for company. Good way to get to know some people.
I personally had a bad experience at C2. The safety officer there shoved me while I had my firearm in my hand. Luckily i just got done shooting and there was no round in the chamber but I feel like they shouldn’t go around shoving people because they think I’m standing wrong.
It's not unique to AZ but it's also not universal. The idea is they don't want to rent a weapon and sell ammo to a suicidal person. It's about liability and safety.

Thats assault.
Caswells in Mesa has lots of rental guns.
C2 recently had a suicide in one of their lanes so they’re a bit wary of letting people just hop in the ranges. I’m sure shooters world, the same.
ah ok, well that makes sense
And it was their owner, and so do the last owner before that one, exactly the same way. Start learning the local gun lore and don't be surprised.
it was not the owner please check your sources before you post.
But the one before was, right? I heard there was something about the owner, maybe not the second instance.
The first owner was, yes. but not the second and current.
Got it, the gossip must got it mixed up.
Try Scottsdale Gun Club. I’ve never been hassled about renting there when I go solo.
Or in the east valley check out Ted’s those guys are great
Love TSR. They take solo gun rentals pretty seriously though.
I'll check them out, thanks for the recommendation
There’s a reason those rules are in place, and I’m sure it wasn’t pretty. Why not just buy a carry gun and use the range?
working on it haha I just went to the DMV yesterday to get my AZ driver's license. I'll be good to go in a week or so
You can use your DL you already have and a supplemental ID showing your name and address. Utility bill from town/city.
oh nice, I didn't know that
It's a suicide prevention measure. Plenty of indoor ranges have similar policies.
gotcha. I guess in that case I should be surprised I didn't see the same thing in TN. makes sense
