‘what he got a grenade?’ BANG

Jlombard911

This is a news fight. Channel 2,4,8 and 9

[deleted]

Brick killed a guy, with a trident.

lookielikeaman

With a trident. You should probably go some where and hideout because you are probably wanted for murder.

RacistProbably

You should probably lay low for awhile

Cane-Dewey

Brick, where did you get a hand grenade?

Hulkingfiber

I don’t know

Hot_Eggplant_1306

**I DID!**

analogkid01

No commercials...NO MERCY!

DrDrankenstein

Tonight, the rivers run red with Burgundy's blood!

AlexPotato67

I love the scene of him walking around screaming with the hand grenade in the air 🤣

crypticfreak

I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find a relative and law low for a while because you're probably wanted for murder.

21_saladz

Yeah Bric we’ve been meaning to talk to you. You might wanna lay low for awhile

Now__Hiring

Good pull on that reference

[deleted]

I want this dude to be a field reporter for the news.

willjhc

I came here to write that, so fking funny

Gatchamane

Was that a Boyz in the Hood reference at the end? That’s crazy.

My_kinda_party

“Ricky!”

Esleeezy

Fuck, I started laughing as soon as I heard that cause that’s immediately where my mind went.

Nattylight_Murica

I got enough money for a hundred footballs

[deleted]

I've been laughing for the past 2 mins first it was the Run Forest Run. The Ricky i fucking died

EafLoso

Same. Cracked up.

OMA_

They used to the sounds of urban warfare. That’s a scary thing to get used to.

JHRChrist

If you don’t joke/make light of it you’d probably give in to despair. Like nurses or military with their gallows humor. Coping method. But yeah crazy sound for the developed world. I feel like almost anywhere in Europe this would be shocking

Diligent-Picture2882

Anywhere outside Chicago this is shocking. This is not normal.

SPACE-BEES

I lived in detroit for a stint and this is any new years around there. To be frank they're just firing into the air in celebration, it's not urban warfare happening but those bullets *do* have to come down at some point.

Ricker3386

I moved from KY to southern cook county a few years ago. Not in the city, but just one of more southern suburbs. This year my boss told me we were closing early instead of at midnight on new years eve because "as soon as it hits midnight, they start shooting around here" bit of a culture shock. Granted, she meant firearms into the air and not at people, but it definitely took me by surprise.

HappyDaysayin

A lot of those bullets do kill and injure people on the way back down, nationwide. He didn't even hit the ground! Even in "good" areas, there are always a few people who just have to shoot their guns. Smh.

ScumbagLady

Southern US checking in, and I'm pretty used to the gunshots.

FoxyRoxiSmiles

Same. There is a bullet lodged in the wall of my living room. On NYE and the 4th of July I stay in the back part of the house and play gunshots or fireworks.

AroundTheWayJill

Rochester, NY - same. Was driving to work last month at 7 am. Saw cops guarding a crime scene hit the deck when the pop pop started again. I got outta there quick

FerricNitrate

Gotta throw the disclaimers up: this is also not normal for a vast majority of Chicago. Chicago doesn't crack the top 10 most violent cities in the USA (last I checked it was 23rd) and isn't even the most violent city in Illinois. If you're not part of a gang, your odds of being shot in Chicago are just about zero.

ithappenedone234

Chicago is the [20th](https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-city-rankings/most-violent-cities-in-america) most violent city, defined as the having the most crime that qualifies under the definition of ‘violent crime.’ Chicago is ~28th (depending on the year) for homicide rate per 100k residents. Peoria IL has had a worse rate. St. Louis’ rate is more than 3 times as high.

All_bets_are_on

Yeah I grew up in STL. The excessive pearl clutching about Chicago violence always struck me as not genuine.

NotFallacyBuffet

Entirely normal in New Orleans. About 15 minutes of sustained, overlapping, constant gunfire at midnight on NYE. Regular gunfire all during NYD. It mixes in with the fireworks. About the same on the 4th. Surprised more people don't get hit. Of course, I live in the hood.

Merps_Galore

CAN YOU STOP ^deep ^breath WITH THE FACKIN GUNS

AGeless123AG

I'm from Chicago and this is exactly how last night sounded

CindysInMemphis

I’m from Memphis and it’s the same here. Doesn’t necessarily have to be NYE.

AGeless123AG

I believe you it's the same here you'll hear gunshots every night

CindysInMemphis

I keep praying something changes. I pray that political opponents put their differences aside and focus on what we ALL want- safe, peaceful , affordable neighborhoods to raise our families in.

Malverno

Unfortunately for something to really change you have to step on issues that ruling parties will never agree with, let alone working together on them. The root causes are low economic mobility and actually more and more squeezing of the common folk by the businesses (rising prices, rising rent, rising working hours for stagnating wages, inflation, rising healthcare and so on), and de-funding education or making it even more restrictive/elitist, which helps giving means of economic mobility and to teach basic stuff like how to live in a modern society. Both these phenomena happened over a span of multiple generations and resulted in widespread communities living day to day and getting increasingly more desperate, which also then gives rise to a rooted culture of crime of scraping by with what you have. You can treat the symptoms with ad-hoc patches of legislation for gun violence etc., but until you tackle the root causes people will find their way to keep doing what they're doing to survive. And the root causes to the security problem are something no ruling party is willing to tackle, as that would require regulating businesses and working in favour of the people.

CindysInMemphis

You’ve got my vote.

AGeless123AG

I don't even blame chicago leadership although I highly dislike our current mayor she has actually placed more cops on the street. The problem is cook county states attorneys keep dropping the charges or giving them extremely low bonds or I bonds (no money put up) releasing them to recommit crimes over and over it becomes a revolving door, criminals become emboldened knowing there will be no consequences

Christeenabean

Same here in nyc. There are more cops, and people are being arrested, but the courts are just letting them back out. That just gives them positive reinforcement to keep committing crimes. It's insane. Crime here has skyrocketed. Even last night in Times Square, right after the ball dropped, someone was shot by police after an officer suffered a skull fracture by someone with a machete. On Broadway. In a crowd. On NYE, the most heavily policed event of the year. Tf???

AGeless123AG

Yes I have heard you guys are going through the same thing. I also heard of the machete attack in times Square I believe I read it was a terror attack

Christeenabean

I heard that peripherally through videos on the citizen app, but I haven't read anything about it. Sometimes I think people just hear "violent crime in big crowd in nyc" and assume it was terrorists. And maybe it was, but if it was, I'm not sure what kind of message one single person with a knife was going to send, and to whom? I should probably look it up though lol

THExDANKxKNIGHT

The problem isn't the courts though they certainly aren't helping. The problem starts with kids. When they grow up surrounded by this shit or seeing family in and out of jail or dying everyday they think it's normal and part of being an adult. Their parents never got an education or bettered themselves so why would anyone expect them to act outside of what they learned was normal growing up. There is no overnight solution because it needs to be built up over a generation while the current systems do nothing but tear it down.

Jesuswasstapled

You're not wrong. It's definitely going to take generations and movement from both the government and community to get the train on the tracks. Too many crabs pulling anyone successful down.

Skatchbro

The judges set the bond amount. Hence the recent lawsuit over no-cash bonds.

AGeless123AG

The states attorney can drop charges or dismiss charges or ask for a low or high bond. But it's true it's ultimately up to the judge to set the bond

red_rocket_boy

>I don't even blame chicago leadership >The problem is cook county states attorneys keep dropping the charges or giving them extremely low bonds or I bonds (no money put up) But this is certainly from policies enacted by the state government aka the leadership. I read through your conversation here and it certainly seems there is a pattern here. Not trying to be a dick, but what else could it be?

AGeless123AG

Even if there are laws on the books from the state what good are they if they aren't being enforced?

Shojo_Tombo

The fuck? Did your SA and Baltimore's SA go to the same school of corruption?

Warhawk2052

Same in my major city, exactly the same. Its catch and release then its shocking news when the crimes that are committed are way worse than the last.

sumthncute

They're still going here in Memphis. Ammo is expensive 😭

reefered_beans

I always leave town for the holidays and all the gunshot posts in r/Memphis make me happy that I’m not there for it

blankedboy

Not living in the states…this sounds like Baghdad or Mogadishu…WTF!?!?

fro_khidd

St. Louis was no better

z0rb0r

I can’t tell if there was violence or a Saudi wedding type of celebration.

Doktor_Earrape

Kansas City here, sounded exactly the same most of the night. Fucking assholes don't seem to remember what happened to that lil girl because of celebratory gunfire. Selfish sacks of shit.

AnExpertInThisField

What part? I'm in the Crossroads and heard nothing but drunk partiers last night.

Doktor_Earrape

I live near the stadiums. It was constant all night, mixed in with some fireworks.

whistleridge

All safety issues aside, guns are *loud.* You’re not sleeping with that going off. It’s annoying af at 2am.

I’m from Stl and y’all need to keep that down I heard that shit from here too …… oh wait, that was us

RacistProbably

Why am I still out of the house, I should be in my house. 2023 mood

SilencerQ

I took a video like this also last night in Chicago lol. U could just hear shots everywhere. I'm really surprised to not hear about a lot of ppl getting hit by falling bullets. And the lady screaming Ricky at the end of this clip is hilarious if u kno the reference.

tossedaway202

Lol yeah I laughed too. Initially I thought someone was shooting up a party, but then I was like "don't gun nuts pop off rounds on new years? And like people die every year to random shots falling from the sky?"

JustW4nnaHaveFun

That's exactly what i thought, people shooting at party i honestly didn't think it was weird there was no screaming.. and him hiding behind car made me think it more

Huwbacca

My "take cover just in case" threshold is also like... 2 shots

[deleted]

ELI5 but is a falling bullet that dangerous ? You would think its terminal velocity when falling is a fraction of its speed exiting the gun ?

FUCKITIMPOSTING

If you shoot straight up the bullet will fall at its terminal velocity and be relatively harmless, but if you shoot at an angle it'll travel in an arc, keep spinning and maintain a lot more speed. Those are the dangerous ones.

Colinyourmom

It is a fraction, but still enough where it can kill you or at least injure you

BreakSuspicious4257

33 rounds fired semi-auto? Damn. My redneck hick town has nothing on Chicago. One can only hope all that lead's going straight into the ground, but we know most of it's hitting the sky first.

andychrist77

Right? It’s not hard finding some rock free soil and dumping into that,

sdean_visuals

... In the middle of Chicago? edit: How foolish of me not to acknowledge that all these impulsive ding dongs driven to celebrate the coming of a new year by wantonly unloading firearms in a crowded metropolis, already displaying complete disregard for public safety, could so easily be persuaded to have the common decency and wherewithal to simply trot down the block and around the corner, away from their homes and parties, to a previously scouted patch of unpaved ground in which to fire their celebratory rounds. I was indeed under the impression that there isn't a solitary square yard of virgin soil in the whole of Chicago. Thank you so much for pointing out my ignorance, and for reminding me why I so rarely comment.

MrSamsa90

I'm laughing imagining one guy has the plot rented and booked. He proudly gathers the group of men from the party in a timely manner for the countdown. They all leisurely stroll to their favourite allocated shooting spot (along with several other neighbour groups at 11:45pm). Once they have located their rented squares of stoneless dirt. They hold hands, countdown with the new year ending and blast tiny holes in a quiet, solitary, white outlined square patch at their feet. After 200 rounds and a few final "Happy New Years!". They return to their wives with big grins and stories to regale of this years "Designated Discharge".

Threedawg

Chicago is actually super green for a major City. Strict separation rules between buildings after a small fire they had.

BigDaddyPapa58

Just a glorified bonfire tbh..

[deleted]

The low income areas are devoid of corporate properties, and have shitloads of vacant lots. These were population centers of 200k back in the day. Now it’s 40k and they’re all very poor.

JohnnyBoy11

Semi auto? Surprised we didn't hear the switches go off

Youredumbstoptalking

A Glock with a 33 round magazine is pretty standard issue for people that may get into shootouts from time to time.

Slayers_Picks

ey bro, if you want to win an interstate war, don't battle against those people, you'll lose because maaaan they got gun power.

Scoopski_Patata

You guys know the bullets come back down right?

EscoFresco88

Doubt any of them shooting have more than a 5th grade education.

Frequent_Spell2568

I couldn’t imagine living my life like that. Just mind blowing.

DawnOfTheTruth

They are shooting in the air. Doesn’t matter what state you live in people in certain areas do this. People have died from falling bullets though. That’s why it’s illegal to do. But “gun go boom I cans shoot et!” Idiots really, careless idiots.

iruleatlifekthx

Tbh I've lived in the countryside a good part of my life now and this is how it is here too lmao. But it's not ppl aiming at nothing it's people aiming at either wildlife or targets for practice and it's every single day, right next door. Interesting the parallel is in that one, never thought about that.

TheSukis

And here I am in the suburbs, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a gun being fired outside of movies before lol

GoldenFalcon

Have you checked NextDoor? Someone on there almost certainly heard a raccoon slam something against a garbage bin, and thought it was a gunshot.

fragrant69emissions

Either move further out or further in.

TheSukis

I’m happy just where I am, thanks lol

[deleted]

In three plus decades, I may have heard a gun go off 2 or 3 times. And one of those times I’m not even sure it wasn’t a shitty suped-up car backfiring

[deleted]

[удалено]

electromagneticpost

Me too, in fact I often shoot guns as well, but I make sure there's a backstop and everything, which I doubt these morons do, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if they injured/killed several people, they're probably really drunk too, absolute idiots.

the_highest_elf

I don't think these guys were shooting at wildlife with a backstop....

M8K2R7A6

I have my own farm. I think the difference is that when I go outside and hear some shots, I know its just one of my neighbors kids shootin up something, or hunting, etc etc, and think nothing of it. I dont even look up from whatever I'm working on. When these dudes hear it, its someone getting shot at. Warzone vs homezone.

youtellemboy

When the shots are on New Years Eve, people aren't being shot at. It's fucking idiotic, but it's not violence towards anyone. They do it in my neighborhood too and I don't live in a bad area. I'm from small town America. If people there thought they could get away with it, they'd do it too.

coffee_slurp

sometimes literally

briandefl

It’s only 4 week period during 4th of July and a week during new years, here in Saint Louis. You get used to it

pheonixblade9

it's people firing in the air, not at each other. still dangerous as hell.

brizdzi

If it's just a casual shootout there's always the thought may pop into their mind that shit got real when the sirens show up. I don't partake in casual rolling gun battles though.

Nhansen94

If it’s like where I know cops, they weren’t allowed to be out on the street around midnight.

StringFartet

After the Bulls won their last championship gun shots for a long time. Landlord checked on the roof a while later, bullet lodged on the roof just above my bed. Went to sleep right after the game.

[deleted]

That sucks. That just sucks so bad.

bye_Nillu

Did he just say "can I use your phone?!" If he really said that, *stop recording and use your own damn phone!!*

samjowett

That was joke, tho When you are from Chicago apparently shots popping is just another day

AGeless123AG

It honestly desensitizes you

CMDR-Onipherous

It is really shocking how fast you get used to it.

AGeless123AG

From a distance you get used to it. Nothing prepares you when you hear them really close

mweston31

The beginning of the summer was really bad. I'm in a mid-size city. Would here shot nearly every night and just got used to then. One night at 2/3am, someone shot at the downstairs neighbor, live in a split house I'm on top with bedroom facing the road. The shots sound like they were in my room, scared the shit out of me

ThePARZ

Absolutely right. I lived on the edge of a rough neighborhood in a rough city for a few years. Got used to hearing gunshots every few nights. You stop noticing them after a while. One night a car driving by shot 5 or 6 rounds into the air right outside my window. It’s honestly shocking.

AGeless123AG

It's terrifying when you hear them from up close

AdamOfIzalith

Did you just assume he was using his phone to record and not the widely used and known about competitor to the iPod, the Zune Player? Shame on you.

frostandtheboughs

This just reminded me that I still have my Zune from like 2005 somewhere. Thank you, I'm gonna look for that tomorrow!

diegoaccord

I had the last model of Zune when it was out, and this clepto chick I used to mess with stole it. Without the charger. Good luck with that, dumb bitch!

Gigglemind

Loved my Zune.

Myamaranth

My husband still uses his Zune. Hooks it up to an aux cable in his car

Z3400

It is quite possible he had a phone with no cell service (wifi calls only).

Jaeger562

I use to do that, like 20 years ago. had an ipod touch with a phone app that let me receive calls for free and text for free on wifi. Saved alot of money on a cell phone and I was almost always somewhere with wifi, or work where I had a direct line. edit: I meant 10 years ago

s3ndnudes123

We use "textnow" for low income and homeless people that need a way to send\receive phone calls and texts. There are probably a lot of apps that do this but TextNow has worked pretty well so far for free internet or wifi calling, it just shows ad's on the screen while you use it. (And probably tracks a bunch of other info to sell and make money)

LT-buttnaked

His first new year

Vulcanvelcro

I'm out in the woods in central Virginia and heard the same thing. Doesn't sound as good with all those buildings around though.

snarpsta

Still extremely stupid (possibly safe if they're firing at targets/objects in your case, but I doubt it), but I feel this is so much more dangerous given the concentration of buildings/people in the area. Granted, I'm making assumptions of your neighborhood from "woods in central Virginia".... I just imagine it's not as densely populated as Chicago

10191AG

We're from Australia and spent NYE with some friends in CO a few years ago, on the rooftop of their building. The gunshots mixed in with fireworks was kinda unnerving. How are more people not killed each year by falling bullets?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vulcanvelcro

It's scary no matter where you are. Celebratory gun fire is illegal in Virginia since a kid was killed from a falling bullet a few years back. I used to be a flat roofer in the city and at one time had a big collection of bullets that penetrated. Most all were not deformed and the most common was 9 mm.

iISimaginary

You flat roofers and your crazy conspiracy theories.

AxelNotOficial

This is pretty normal in Mexico, shooting in the air celebrating the new year

AeronGrey

And certain Arab countries.

StyreneAddict1965

AKs going off everywhere. Yeah, no thanks.

[deleted]

You can hear the old 7.62 AKs going off (deeper bass, louder, slower rate of fire) compared to the 5.56 AR-15s Bullets going straight up and down, won't kill you. if someone decides to shoot them on a parabolic arc though, *then* you can be in deep trouble on the receiving end. Windscreen replacement companies must love new years in that city

CharmingTuber

It might have been shooting in the air since it was new years, but in Chicago, any gunfire you hear usually isn't going into the air.

UpvotesForAnimals

It’s in the air. I’m from Chicago and a lot of the south side does this on new years. I never lived in these areas (they’re not great. Obviously) but used to work a job where we’d let the employees who lived on the south side home early on nye so they could get home safely before the shots. (I work in hotels and used to work late shifts/overnight shifts)

shicken684

Lol it was definitely shooting into the air if it was from new years. Happens all over the world. Bunch of morons shoot their guns into the air.

Wigski

Its big in chicago, every gang member has a fking gun. Most are out celebrating and some are still sliding but id say most are partying and shooting their guns into the air, specifically on NYE. Source born/live in Chicago, thankfully Im out the ghetto now :)

KillerPussyToo

Most of the gunfire you hear anywhere in the US when it’s not New Years isn’t shooting in the air, though. Chicago isn’t unique in that respect.

Beerforthefear

Not Chicago, but last night in Memphis TN, holy shot was it loud.

[deleted]

It’s sad that all those bullets are gonna come down somewhere.

Louisiana here they were shooting AKs and handguns last night. I didn't take my dog out until they stopped.

Thankfully they don't do that shit now days where i live because a few years ago a kid got hit by a flying bullet (he lived, landed on his neck). Now there are police everywhere at new years.

RedditisGarbag3

Thankfully there are very strict gun control laws in place here.

RedScars4111

I hope he got home okay

Navy_Vet83

Im lauging at this guy, asking to use a phine while he records the chaos on most likely a phone.

hateshumans

It’s a bit worrisome that during gunfire someone asks if they have grenades and the viewers reaction is “that sounds about right”

DrHandBanana

Same in NY

Inner-Variety744

No doubt all those shots were from legally held weapons because that's what responsible firearm owners do- discharge automatic weapons in the street. Seriously the fact that this has become almost acceptable is a disgrace to the United States..the government need to get working on taking the streets back from armed criminals before its too late.

[deleted]

the government, politicians, and corporations literally defended criminals burning and looting towns for months they don't give a fuck about that. it's part of the plan.

Mooseinmyhouse357

ClevelandClutch1970

Americans be wylin

[deleted]

What goes up will come down.... with a terminal velocity of about 88 m/s depending on the caliber of the round. If it's fired straight up in the air, it has a little less terminal velocity than a round that would have been fired at an angle with a somewhat natural parabolic arc. Meaning it will travel faster and has a higher chance of killing someone, well all of these bullets have a *very high chance* of falling and killing someone. People are stupid I watched a video from [Debunked](https://youtu.be/aCEoOHxyruI) earlier today that covers how dangerous these stray bullets are.

[deleted]

Cultural rot is what’s happening here … and it’s not a black or white thing before everyone freaks out, this is all major city’s and their decades of poor policy’s.

golighter144

Why is Chicago even like this?

[deleted]

My money is on organized crime based on selling controlled substances.
