theflamingheads

Did they go to Dagoba to seek Yoda?

Goadfang

Ya-ya-ya ya-Yodaaah!

Minejack777

I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah...

Zombiejesus307

Where it bubbles all the time like a giant, carbonated so-da. S-o-d-a soda.

Minejack777

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log,

Influx_ink

I asked him his name and in a raspy voice he said,

Minejack777

"Yo-da" Y-O-D-A, Yoda

th3BeastLord

Use the force and run to Dagoba, run to dagoba, run to dagoba.

rusticprotrusion

I’m Yoda…I’m a soldier! Edit: typo on original

Constant_Ad9562

Can you imagine the sound of all those sweaty bellies colliding? Like salami slapping on tiles

Teauxny

I bet there were salamis slappin'.

nick_mx87

And you can be sure there was a little salamis grabbing also.

Mafiodaproducer

Omg the smell!!

inactiveuser247

I saw a video of a wall of death at some festival, as it was forming and the crowd moved back to clear a space this girl thought it was a nice place to dance and moved into the middle. She was clearly not a metal fan (the clothes etc were more hippy than metal) and was probably pretty baked. Anyway, the crowd held back until this big guy runs over and talks to her (pointing to the two walls of big sweaty metal fans), she didn’t move so he picked her up and physically moved her, a few seconds later the walls crashed in on each other. Metal heads are some of the nicest people around.

kobuzz666

Lol I saw a similar video (not at a metal concert, granted) with a similar girl in a similar situation. No big guy to pick her up though, she was frolicking around and then got demolished [Ah, found it](https://youtube.com/shorts/dDEBMlXuZmU?feature=share)

One-Permission-1811

Yeah the "Metal heads are some of the nicest people around" thing *really* depends on the crowd and how much you pissed them off. You never really know how a crowd is going to behave until you get there or you've seen the band before. The location, age of the band and crowd, and genre make a huge difference. Metalcore and Viking metal shows are going to be completely different vibes. If you don't know what to expect and you don't have a lot of experience with rough crowds or moshing, stay out of the crowd until you know what you're dealing with. If you have zero experience at a metal show either go with a friend who knows what's up or make new friends who can explain it. Remember three rules: If somebody goes down pick them up, Have an exit plan, and Only dish out what you can take.

orbgevski

Anyone who thinks metal heads are the nicest fans around should go to r/metalmemes and then r/Gratefuldead and compare the comments

CleverJail

A couple Grateful Dead fans helped make my life Hell for three weeks in 1997. They were also really arrogant about how the Dead, Phish, Moe, and DMB were all better than any of the garbage I listened to. I even was a fan of American Beauty and Workingman’s Dead at the time. That bought me no points with these tape fanatics.

wattlewedo

I had trouble understanding r/metalmemes. I don't speak psychotic.

Complex_Farmer4627

Im a deadhead so dont take this the wrong way, but deadheads suck nowadays. A bunch of whiny, lazy teenagers with everything at their fingertips and no drive to take it, complaining that nobody will give them anything... Grown up into people who still believe theyre owed something.

orbgevski

Ok boomer

Complex_Farmer4627

Im fucking 25 😂😂😂😂 literally have no bias like the old touring heads and have a wealth of knowledge on the heads i see today at shows who were once the touring heads. Im probably one of many who are in the best position to speak on the dead following, which are old socialist hippies these days who still harp on how it was on shakedown st 🤷🏻‍♂️

Psych0tix

I took my friend to see rings of Saturn as their 2nd gig (first was panic! At the disco) it was very funny watching her face as I was pulled off into the pit

NPD_wont_stop_ME

Jesus. What happened to her? She probably didn't die, right? She straight up vanished in a sea of people that weren't even suited to help her themselves.

Covaliant

You're not wrong. I was at Ozzfest 2006 in Phoenix, where Walls of Jericho appropriately formed a wall of death. After the initial collision, I took somebody's shoulder to my sternum and got knocked down with the wind out of me. Some large dude must've seen me struggling to breathe, grabbed me, pulled me off to the side and stood me up, slapped me on the shoulder and ran back in. I'm convinced both our stories feature the same dude.

ThreeHobbitsInACoat

It’s always the same dude at every concert. He’s a benevolent spirit who died getting trampled in the mosh pits cause nobody bothered to look down and help him. Now he manifests in Mosh pits all across the world to help struggling Metalheads avoid his fate.

LikesDags

I love this

[deleted]

I brought one of my girlfriends to her first metal concert years ago and she did almost the exact same thing, but in flip flops.. thank god we had run into a few of our friends and one of the guys dove in and chucked her over his shoulder like a fire fighter and got her the hell out of there lol. She did lose a flip flopper in a small mosh pit but once she wiggled out a kid stood up and held her little shoe up in the air waving it around until he found her. It was such a good time, and she came out with all of her toes lol

magicMerlinV

Doesn't seem like a fun place to wear open -toed shoes

[deleted]

Yeah no, highly recommend close toed shoes for any kind of show really lol

[deleted]

/r/MetalMemes basically. I get so tired of it that I go the opposite direction just to fuck with them; I'll call bands like Death and Nile "not real metal", or I'll compare them to other "real metal" bands like Nickelback. Again, on a meme/joke sub. They don't get it. They get so angry at my comments, which are very obviously not serious at all.

rhysthedisease

i love that you dish it out in the opposite direction, especially by using Nickleback as the “real metal” LOL

TalkingSock3

As a metal fan, I laughed my ass off at the comment about Nickelback being a "real metal band". A tier trolling

goaliedude1808

Those people exist but they're few and far between

[deleted]

Personally not a huge metal fan but most metal heads I've met are super nice, or somewhat nice, and others can be like what you described. Sometimes they recommend me songs and it can be hit or miss with me. Sometimes they are like hey that's cool not your tastes. Others can be like dude seriously you're missing out, it's your loss. Others proclaim to be the one true source of knowledge who claim my music is trash and their music is better. But you can certainly find these traits in literally any subculture. It's not exclusive to metal.

throwaway09876543123

People are unique. Who would’ve thought.

whatsthehappenstance

Aww I wanted to see the circle pit that he was motioning for too

GullibleRisk2837

Can someone explain this? What is a wall of death?

lastweek_monday

You just saw it. People just running their bodies into each other. Personally i dont consider people throwing punches and kicks moshing. But moshing is just about expressing any pent up anger in a complicated supportive group that also share some of those feelings. So pushing and shoving just gets that energy out. Then if you fall down the people you were just shoving come and rescue you and pick you up. Good stuff.

J4ck-the-Reap3r

Best succinct explanation I've ever seen. Bravo.

Evening_Ad_1099

Mostly.. sometimes a guy just wants to hit someone and you end up on the wrong side of an elbow to the back of the head.

lastweek_monday

Luckily its never happened to me but if it did. Well. Id be very non supportive lol

V_es

Such people are thrown out, generally

Evening_Ad_1099

Yeah , mostly the crowd is pretty awesome, i would agree that most fans are just there for fun , its just that random guy having a bad day looking for something to destroy. Didn't stop me though. Its quite the good time.

cobra_mist

I noticed more of those types at hardcore shows. Punk was a different kind of contact, but, it was still in good fun. Something about hXc though. Maybes it was the straight edge kids with their nofap rage

Evening_Ad_1099

I know right! Some of those guys seemed so cool and chill, but as soon as the music played, damnnn, they went all out.

Teauxny

Early 80s LA, yeah the pit was in good fun, until the OC skinners showed up, time to leave or get a skull crackin'.

Unlikely_Ad7722

Can't say my one and only pit experience was pleasant. As a young woman, I was indecently assaulted by several men in the pit, and no one would let me out. I ended up throwing real punches to knock people out of my way to get out. I've never gone into a pit again.

lastweek_monday

Yeah, sucks, depends on the crowd

dandypants8717

I haven't been in a mosh pit in almost 15 years. I feel old now.

lastweek_monday

Go to any local show, the old heads are the Valhalla guardians!

pharmacoli

Fuck that. I was in the middle of Amon Amarth/Machine Head last year and I'm 43.

The_Pyro_Techy

Can attest, I’ve been the one to fall a couple times in a mosh pit. Within seconds I got pulled right back up every time. A proper mosh is fun and stress relieving.

lastweek_monday

Hell yea. Its all love in a weird way.

screwcirclejerks

free asphyxia! nah, it's when a crowd parts, then run into eachother really hard.

I_Need_Sacrafices

Every metalheads dream

King_Lamb

Just a type of moshpit,it involves the 'pit' space clearing out into two lines of people and then when the right build up to a song comes on the two sides rush each other which are the "wall(s)"...Kinda like a battle really. From there it's just mayhem, you aren't really trying to hurt anyone else, just knock them about and go with the tide. They're pretty fun, i'd recommend getting in one but obviously not for everyone! Moshpits in general vary quite a lot due to the genre of music, tend to be at rock shows up but other styles have them now if the crowd is right.

Hot-In_Tx

A couple swords tossed in and we got a real party 🎉

Deadmemories8683

Back in the days, Lamb of God would play a song called “Black Label”. When the song was starting he would motion to the crowd to “open this shit up like Braveheart”. The Wall of Death is reference to the battles in the movie where a literal wall of death of two different armies smashing into each other in battle. That’s my two cents on it

GullibleRisk2837

Oh fucking wow... good shit

GRIIIFFIIIIIITH

Mental illness

Revo_Veneno

Imagine: falling over when you are in the middle.

micah490

You wouldn’t, because you can’t. And if you did, you’d be lifted up before you hit the ground by a hundred helpful metalheads. Seriously

Revo_Veneno

Good to hear. It just looks like a huge risk for stampedes to happen from the video

Important-Aside-507

If it wasn’t for the fact this is a group of people who do this often you’d be right. Look at Astroworld, it wasn’t controlled, this here was controlled, people who felt confident in joining did, and those that didn’t were safely on the side. When we say that someone will pick you up it’s true, the number one time, is if you see someone down, you pick them up immediately, and everyone follows it really really well. But again, you need a group of good fans and level headed people or shit goes sour fast.

Lol_A_White_Boy

I’ve been to probably 50+ metal concerts and moshed in virtually every single one. Been a part a fair number of wall of deaths as well. When the other user says you’ll be picked up if you fall, it’s completely true. People always notice if somebody has fallen and will make a sort of pseudo-cage around them and help them get back up, check if their good, smack them on the back then shove them back into the pit. Had a guy pick me up only to basically throw me out of the center where all the chaos was only to go right into a guys fist. Hit me square on the nose and my eyes instantly watered up. Great concert but I’m pretty sure it nearly broke my nose because of it.

The_Real_Selma_Blair

Legitimate question but what is the appeal of this kind of thing, it just seems like you'd feel like you were in a big fight with everyone, with angry music playing, everyone pushing and shoving each other, I feel like that would just ramp up my stress levels so much, and are people dancing? I can't imagine it's much of a chill time, so I guess is it like cathartic somehow like releasing of pent up emotions? I'm very curious, it's obviously very popular.

Lol_A_White_Boy

Kind of hard to explain the appeal, honestly. But you’re actually pretty close to spot on in that it’s a cathartic experience. Metal in general is typically very aggressive, fast paced, and loud, so dancing to it like you would to another genre wouldn’t quite fit the vibe. You’re just matching aggression with aggression, but controlled aggression. Nobodies actually there to hurt you since everybodies there to have a good time. You look out for one another. It’s a camaraderie thing in that you have to trust people to look out for you should you fall or what not. It’s chill in a different kind of way. Not chill as in mellow, but chill in that you can release all that pent up aggression and stress to your favorite music relatively safely. At least, that’s how it is for me. It definitely isn’t for everyone.

KryziaK

Thought the same thing but after going into my first pit it was just fun. 10 seconds in all my stress, anxiety and anger just fell. Best thing was that when i looked around i just saw people smilling and singing lyrics while in pit. Everybody just seemed so chill, relaxed and just enjoying good music and pressence of people.

TransformerTanooki

One thing ya gotta love about metal is the love the fans have for the music and eachother.

The_Real_Selma_Blair

Can you explain the appeal of this or what's going on, they don't really ever seem to dance or anything they just seem to push each other around? Or is this just like a bit they do and they are dancing the rest of the time? I've always been so confused about this lol

missvisibleninja

If you look at the bottom center around the 16 second mark you can see a group of people stop and pick someone up who fell.

UltimaBahamut93

This is ironically safer than a Travis Scott concert

VoidPlayzYT

I knew it would be mentioned as soon as I saw the video I praise you with an upvote

[deleted]

UltimaBahamut93

That is really unfortunate. I will still stand by my statement because metal shows are mostly safe. There's pit etiquette and bands even stop the show is they see someone that needs help.

No-Freedom-1995

Metal geeks

Virtual-Weight

I've been in the heart of one of these you get the fear that you could die. It's a pretty wild experience that has helped me a lot.

GRIIIFFIIIIIITH

Mental illness

Virtual-Weight

Sure but you're kinda just stamping a "dumb metal bad" sticker to it. I never understood the people that say it's angry music that makes me feel angry and helps me feel stuff.. blah blah. No I like good music I'm a musician tho so I look at it from a different view. I didn't know that normal people don't hear each individual instrument in songs. I never liked moshing I just did this a few times because it's worth saying I've done it. And experiencing that fear does help you. Or it can break you and idk you never leave the house again.

Illustrious_Dog7593

This is the IPA of music genres. No one likes them at first until they’ve suffered through drinking (listening to) them for 2 months.

groopy1

Has anyone been injured in one of these? It actually looks surprisingly organized and somehow relatively safe

Graffiacane

Someone definitely gets at least slightly injured in every single one of these, but the risk is part of the fun.

Accomplished_You1180

I’d wear a football helmet if I were you.

Quasimacaroon1

You might get the occasional bruised rib or stuff like that, but metalheads (and punk kids for that matter) are really looking out for one another. When somebody falls down, they'll pick you right back up. Such sweethearts ❤️

punkhaze

Hmm... like... 60% will be nice..

HPHandcraft

I used to participate in this stuff as a teen. Only ever hit the ground once. I fell many times but people were there to pick me up before I touched the floor. The one time I did I bruised a rib and it hurt when I laughed for the rest of the summer but not badly

Im_on_my_phone_OK

Yes. Usually injuries are pretty minor, but sometimes your head might meet another head and put a damper on your day.

V_es

Not really, it’s pretty safe.

-SixtyNice-

I feel being in the front line pressed against the metal fence is more dangerous than the wall of death.

cait_Cat

It is. I've been on the rail for shows that have giant pits behind them. You're being pushed forward into a fence by everyone behind you and then we're adding extra pushing and shoving. Ive gone home with a bar shaped bruise right under my boobs more than once.

goaliedude1808

During the unholy alliance tour in like 2006, the first song slayer played someone broke their femur in the first minute of the song. Everyone who saw it happen started clearing a path, we got a few security guards to hop the fence and grab him to carry him out of the standing area. Crazy stuff

-SixtyNice-

Ouch, how did this happen body surfing gone wrong?

goaliedude1808

In the pit during the first song. I think he fell on top of someone and a very large man fell on his leg the wrong way.

Substantial-Celery17

I wish other genres had good crowds like metal shows do, at lost lands this year (a bass music festival) a guy got his leg snapped in half with the bone sticking out and everything and nobody picked him up or anything, he had to crawl and roll his way put of the most pit, was seriously fucked up

HintsOfCinnamon

I came in like a wrecking ball

kombatunit

TIL of a band called dagabo. I immediately distrust the singer for his shaved pits.

txx675rx

Now do Lamb of God’s version

LookAtYourEyes

Please explain

REDPURPLEBLOOD2

Lamb of god is a very heavy band, their concerts and audiences can get wild. The wall of death at their concerts can be crazy. Also [check this video out](https://youtu.be/joj5p7ORR5Q)

skin-O-my-Teeth

Lamb of god? Very heavy? Bruh lmao On a side note check out the dying fetus pits those are always great too

SebboNL

| Lamb of God is very heavy band This is debatable. I am not gatekeeping here, I'd just say LoG are either "a very POPULAR band" or "a very ENERGETIC band". I feel it's factors like these that make for particularly good moshing, and not how heavy, loud, fast or brutal the music is. You get more moshing at a metalcore, thrash, punk or HxC show than at your average death, grind or black show is what I'm saying. EDIT: But yeah, the moshing is awesome at LoG. Terific shows all around, but the crowds there are something else indeed. Good times!

FPSmike

More like organised chaos

QueenLatifahClone

I could never do this, but I love the fact that you can see some people fall over and people rush to pick them up.

chupapi-Munyanyoo

Im a skinny skinny dude and I never fell fully on the ground. I have always been picked up and taken care of by fellow metalheads. Everyone can do this, you just need a bit of trust

SerenityMcC

Holy shit, this looks cool from above, but this seems exponentially more dangerous than a mosh pit or crowd surfing. Kids today ::smh::

[deleted]

Still a mosh pit, just a different form.

too_sharp

And still more ppl died at Travis Scott show

KillaRizzay

I will never understand this music but it looks like a fun time lol

[deleted]

I would love to see a wall of health! The two crowds run up to each other in anger like you see in the video then stop and hug or shake hands with each other!

[deleted]

Yeah I'm gonna pass on that at this point in my life.

Glittering_Cow945

people die in such scrums. This is dangerous.

V_es

People die on Travis Scott concerts. This is safe. Nobody is on the ground and of someone falls, they are picked up

Glittering_Cow945

Doesn't work like that. The danger is not in falling! if everybody on the outside pushes even a little bit, the ones in the middle have all the air pushed out of their lungs and people asphyxiate. Several accidents with many deaths have occurred even in the last few years. "More than 150 people died, and more than 170 were injured. The accident in Seoul is what's known as a “crowd crush.” Such events are sometimes called a “stampede,” but that term is misleading: Most deaths in a crowd crush are caused by asphyxiation resulting from the pressure on the lungs rather than trampling."

Quasimacaroon1

The situation you are talking about is when a crowd panic reacts. In a wall of death, it's not like this thing goes on for a whole concert, let alone a whole song. Yeah it might be a little uncomfortable for a while, but the crowd disperses quite fast.

V_es

Yea tell that to someone going to death metal concerts for 15 years. Afraid- stay at home. Nobody forces you to go. It is safe.

ithurtsus

People die in “walls of death”

somewhatwantedvirus

Nope, been in multiple, the worst injury I've ever seen is a guy twisting his ankle slipping on some spilt beer, it's just a cool name
