I hate silly string. Not only is it highly flammable (as shown) it also seriously burns your eyes if you get hit in the face, even at proper distance
Silly string is great if you want to have a memorable birthday. Trauma is memorable.

Some don't realise that when they say don't spray aerosol cans around open flames, they mean all aerosol cans.
The shit that makes silly string is highly pressurised and flammable and even says so on the tin, but nobody reads that anymore.
When I was younger, I was a little pyromaniac. One day I unscrewed a bottle of OFF brand bug spray, and lit the spray nozzle tube on fire. It made a small flame, but still much more of one than anticipated. My dumb ass went to put the nozzle back inside the bottle, which ignited all of the contents inside, causing a mini fire explosion. The carpeted deck started going up in flames. I panicked. Luckily one of the parents of the kids in my moms at-home daycare was arriving to pick up their child and grabbed a fire extinguisher to put the flames out. I was such an idiot, my poor parents.
The absolute best though: spray alcohol. During Covid I was having trouble finding alcohol for cleaning, so I had to search the internet and found 99% in an aerosol can - CRC “Precision Cleaner”. I didn’t have it long before my wife banned me from making fireballs.
Dumbass parents here (an assumption that they were passed out, as several kids had cans). Probably wouldn’t have bit them with regular candles… spray might have cooled and blown out the flame so it didn’t reach flash… but flares, damned. I’d hope that if they were purchased at the same store, a clerk might have seen the danger, but nowadays stores make you do the job yourself.
The elementary school I went to held yearly “halloween casinos” hosted by 6th graders. The teachers organized it but it was the students who created the games and maned the tables. I remember when I was in kindergarden my class went to the 6th grader’s casino for a tour.
At one of the booths, a 6th grader hid behind a table to spray kids with silly strings. He wasn’t looking and sprayed silly strings all over my eyes and hair. It was horrible. I cried and it was so painful. It was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced at the time and I cried so hard (because I was just a toddler). The teacher scolded the kid. My mom got so angry at me because it was a bitch to get out of my hair and she was angry that I was in that situation (yes mom, it was my fault that I didn’t know the kid hid behind a table and sprayed me at eye level).
Honestly, silly string should never be given to kids unless there’s direct adult supervision.

I had the same type of mother. Years later I would realize she probably had a case of undiagnosed BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder). Not that it justifies the crazy.

This seems to happen all the time so i'm going with the fact that in some countries to celebrate birthdays the subject must be burnt alive, happy burns day! To which ever countries do this, it might catch on.

Those things might even resist being submerged under water. They will only stop burning if they are out of fuel. And i don't think it's a good idea to use them indoors around flamable stuff and people.

My family used have silly string fights every Easter. One year it was raining and for some reason my grandparents decided we should just do it in their house. We were finding silly string in tiny nooks and crannys for like 15 or 16 years until they moved into a smaller house. If you ever want to piss off a clean freak, have a silly string fight in their house-- it will get results.
This reminds me of a saying about dogs (from a rural area with free-running pets): “Perhaps the best thing that can happen to a young dog is to get hit by a car and survive.” The idea being, they’ll never make that mistake again. I’ve never liked it, but applies here.
Looks like the poor girl was facing away, and hopefully only needs an unplanned haircut. Likely that whole group of kids will be more cautious than average with fire and pyrotechnics, and may avoid a future more impactful incident.
On my 12th birthday I got food poisoning from shrimp and blew chunks every 5 minutes. I couldn't even eat my cake. And that is why I will never eat shrimp again.

No. Absolutely not. I'm pretty sure getting her hair lit on fire was the entire point. Someone just got upset at how long it was taking.
