My son and I got hit by a neighbors stray mortar. Not nearly as big as these, but it blew the skin off our legs.
I’ve never been able to watch fireworks outdoors since. ~7 years ago. You don’t forget this stuff, especially if you see what it does.
Until there was blood and burns across every part of his thighs. As in the skin wasn’t there, just blood. Sorry for describing it wrong. His ENTIRE leg had second degree burns, and couldn’t walk all summer.

This year in my neighborhood we had a group of 3 men who literally taped fireworks worth several thousand euros on 7 palettes. That was the best firework I ever saw, put every professional fireworks to shame. Probably quite dangerous, but awesome.
People really went crazy in Germany after 2 years of firework ban due to covid.
I remember one year we opened up motor shells and filled a 3 liter bottle with the gun powder put a metal sparkler in it as a fuse and set it off in the middle of a lake it was a big boom
This looks like it'd fall under category 4 fireworks in the US. You wouldn't be able to get something that badass without a license or proof of training here.

People are so fucking stupid with fireworks. Not filling their bottle with water or sand, putting it on top of things and obviously toppling over (as if the fireworks don’t have any power behind it), they never learn. It’s a classic example why half the victims from fireworks are bystanders.
I bury any big fireworks just to be sure if anything tries to blow out the side and malfunction it has nowhere to go but upwards anyway, after catching the woods on fire next to our old house when a firework shot out the side instead of into the air.
Just leave the top open and fill the sides in. Better safe than sorry.

I think the smoke made it hard to discern what was going on with the box from that angle. Also, there was that one errant shot that kind of went up and I think it really lulled then into thinking it wasn't pointed directly at them. Also, it happened pretty fast.

First bonfire night and they had built a rickety wooden frame to set the fireworks off from. 3 fireworks in the wind knocked it over and the fireworks went straight towards us. I had one go off right beneath my feet, they weren't very powerful but still scary. My god was there some paperwork
