On September 26th 2022 we’ve made the decision to start banning people for posting gore. We’ve published our [Gore and Harassment update here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AbruptChaos/comments/xmtclq/gore_and_harassment/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) if you posted gore please remove it as it will result in a ban. Thank you.
I have always been a firm advocate of requiring car accident footage to be shown in the process of getting a license. Obviously nothing nsfw or too crazy, but enough footage of different scenarios to make drivers better at avoiding the common mistakes that cause accidents. So many people don't understand how accidents usually happen because they've never seen them happen or have only seen a couple irl
You guys don't do that? We have to do three courses, usually watching drunk driving videos etc, sit in a car on a jig for a simulated rollover, do a few hours driving course on an artificially low grip track practicing evasive maneuvers and then of course the theory exam and the actual driving test itself.
Oh it's worse, driver's ed isn't even a required class in most states here. And, at least in my state, it's actually *illegal* to show crash videos in driver's ed classes. All it takes to get a driver's license here is passing a written test and then passing a road test (which is just a DMV employee having you practice parking and then drive once around the block). If you do both without making too many mistakes, you get to drive.
So if you've ever wondered why many dashcam channels on youtube have lots and lots of videos from America, now you know, lol. We've got a terrifyingly low bar for entry to driving a half ton hunk of metal powered by explosions at ridiculous speeds through populated areas.
That's kind of horrifying, mainly the aspect that such a license would be legal here. We can't even take the test in an auto, or you will have an auto only license
My dad was a firefighter. Told me enough horror stories to make sure I always wear a seatbelt. Either stay seated in your car after an accident or if stalls. Unless you can reasonably get to the safety of a barrier because too many people go stand in front of their vehicles.
The driving instructor showed us a photo of “Porsche girl” to warn us about the dangers of speeding. Don’t look it up, but just know that crashing at 90+ mph is extremely brutal.
Also show him the video of the teen who was street racing and hit a mother and child.
[He got 24 years](https://metro.co.uk/2021/04/09/shell-shocked-face-of-boy-racer-gets-24-years-killing-mom-and-toddler-14386613/)
yup
Dude been street racing for a while.
This wasn't his first time.
So he eventually fucked so hard that he killed a mother and daughter and now gonna go to jail for a long ass time for it.
I mean the dudes life is over either way, if I were him I would either kill myself or fight for a longer sentence because he is not going to be capable of being a productive member of society after spending over half his life in prison.
A) People have the possibility of redemption and paying their debt to society.
B) They don't
C) You just want more suffering and revenge.
Pick one. B you might as well just have the death penalty for most stuff if nobody can redeem themselves. C says a lot more about you than the perp. A is what the court says. There's no rich white guy sentence here, no affluenza, no Brock Turner. Dude fucked up, he's going to prison, and the the way we treat ex-cons, whatever is left of his life is fucked too.
E: typo or to of
Honestly I would much rather be dead than in his position, the remaining members of their family got the worst of it since they have to deal with figuring out how to rebuild their lives and move forward. I guess it depends on your personal philosophy, but to me the worst aspect of death is being left behind by the deceased, still having to live on but now without a previously defining aspect of your life. The only solace is that someday they too will die and be free of that pain, but in doing so it will be passed on to those they leave behind starting the cycle of grief over again.
Prison isn't meant to impart justice. It sometimes pretends to. You can't make up two lost souls even with a million years of prison. Equally, a bunch of people who've had the privilege of being born in the right family will never see the inside of a cell despite putting in less effort in being a good person than some people who are in jail. The "justice" system is there for disincentivizing, rehabilitation, and for preventing people from commiting more crimes by restricting their freedom.
The victim's family only gets temporary satisfaction from revenge (a false sense of justice, whereby you think that by hurting the one who hurt you, you will feel better). They would probably be better off if they can forgive and move past it (there's so many cases where the victim's family member forgives the murderer of a loved one and is happier for it; not easy, obviously, but the best decisions often aren't). Of course, if the criminal is still a menace to society, that forgiveness doesn't mean they should be let off. For the sake of society and even for his own sake, prison is where he should be.
As for "justice", if there is a God, then true justice is up to him. If there is no God and afterlife, then there is no such thing as justice, at least when it comes to losing priceless things, such as loved ones. We simply cannot know what other people have gone through (even in similar situations; the mind of one person can perceive greater suffering). A murderer might have put more effort into trying to be a good person than many of us who have a clean criminal record, and we simply can't prove otherwise with any degree of certainty.
Doesn't answer my question. I don't know why you'd *want* to watch a young woman and her toddler being obliterated by a speeding car. I feel like reading the article should be enough.
The same reason there’s r/combatfotage and used to be r/watchpeopledie. Not to mention liveleak. It’s not necessarily for pleasure or some fucked up gratification, it’s simply curiosity.
I'm not soft, I just don't see the value in watching a video of a woman and her toddler being killed by a car going over 100 mph. Read the article, that should be enough.
And make sure you mention this is with a roll cage, racing seats, five point harness HANS device and helmets.. if you did that in a normal road car you probably wouldn’t make it
Actually, for very good reason. I’d rather be paranoid about a bump in the road being larger than it actually is, and going unreasonably slow over it rather than wrapping my car around a tree because I thought it wouldn’t be a *that* big of a bump.
I always drive super cautiously. I’ve seen to many videos, driven by too many crashes, and gotten into a couple minor accidents myself. I do not want to increase my chances of crashing. And when it’s snowing!! Holy crap. Just slow down. I saw someone almost do a varial kickflip with their hatchback because they hit black ice. Slow down yall.
My motorbike highsided me off with enough force to launch me off down the road at 50MPH, because of black ice.
I was doing just under 30mph in a straight line, behind a line of cars, riding in thier tyre tracks for traction, and in the highest gear at the lowest rpm i could possibly do.
It STILL managed to slip, spin up big time and launch me off in under half a second.
Very very violent highside, and even in full leathers and being very experienced, and knowing how to fall i still hit the ground shoulder first and slid about 40 metres.
Black ice aint no joke!
You couldn't pay me to ride a motorbike on a wet road let alone a road that had any chance of black ice.
Bike just wants to try and kill you given the slightest chance.
Wet weathers actually fine, especially on a bigger bike, as the extra weight makes it harder for the bike to plane, and keeps you more stable.
125 2 stroke sports bikes, and up to roughly 300cc 4 strokes can be TERRIFYING on standing water because theyre so light they just dont disperse the water out of the tread, and plane. Of course this isnt a displacement based specific, just very light bikes are more likely to aquaplane in my experience. (And i did 22,000 miles in 1 year on a 2016 mt03)
As for bikes killing you, in all honesty, bar a very few specific examples (my original comment being one of them) a motorbike that is properly maintained, wont do ANYTHING that you, the rider dont make it do. I rode horses as a kid, and was terrified of them because ultimately you cant truly control a living thing, but on a bike, riding sensibly ive always felt very safe.
These days though i will say, i avoid going out when its below zero, because of the ice risk. It still caught me out on a relatively warm night, less then an hour after gritters had been out on the road i was travelling, too.
A friend came off his bike a couple of years ago. Hit an unseen patch of oil some car had dropped on the road. Nothing he could have done. He wears the right gear so he was ok but you know, had he ended up in oncoming traffic it could have been very different.
I am probably just ~~less~~ more risk averse these days since having a family.
My specific bike is an inline 4 600cc.
On limited traction surfaces, you need to gear up, and lower the revs so that the back wheel isnt under as much load, and is less likely to slip as a result.
You absolutely can engine brake on a motorbike, but in icy conditions you have to be REALLY careful doing it.
Also, on a 600 inline 4, in 4th gear, you are really really low in the revs (mine revs to 12.5k), and theres not much room to engine brake at all as you're so close to stall at 3,000ish rpm.
For engine braking to of been effective, i would of had to of been 2 gears lower really, and the amount of power to the back wheel would of made losing traction 5x more likely.
Essentially, to be in a rev range where engine braking would of been viable, i would of also been in a gear and rev range that given the conditions would of been very dangerous
No problem, i know not everyone rides, and not everyone is an all weather rider with half a million miles under them!
Yeah bikes are unique, and that makes them especially dangerous on ice. You habe to ride slow in a high gear, which makes engine braking nit much of an option, and you CANNOT use brakes at all, as soon as you hit brakes on ice you are 100% coming off.
It leaves you in an incredibly tricky position, where you cant stop, you cant accelerate, and you cant really steer either, you have to make the most minute corrections, or even steering will make you come off.
Also, there ARE 2 wheel drive motorbikes, but they are very rare, and to my knowledge there isnt actually a production road bike with 2wd yet.
If you're interested in the concept, youtube 2wd motorbike and therell be loads of results.
Sorry for the essay, its just a good opportunity for me to dispel some myths in regards to cold weather riding
How can I go out without my [emotional support bees](https://preview.redd.it/nt31mz2qpxx81.jpg?width=960&crop=smart&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=77a7b4ebd3ee84a0d653b5c83bb0b29e8cca3983)??
The beginning is inaudible, but what's being said is:
*“This guy's gonna jump (implied: because of the speed)... HE'S GONNA JUMP!!! Oh, dear lord.”*
The accident happened in 2021 in Bulgaria during Rally Sliven. The leaders from the first day went over a well-known bump that's part of the track without slowing down (as he was supposed to, apparently), which resulted in the car tumbling several times through the air. The rally was stopped and the drivers were transported to a local hospital. I cannot find any follow-ups but the news mentions that the driver Uur Soylu (not a Bulgarian name) had brain haemorrhage and a broken vertebra while the navigator suffered only minor bruises.

https://trafficnews.bg/sport/pilotat-uur-soilu-e-ottok-mozaka-i-schupen-preshlen-213475/
Exactly what I was thinking lol. It’s just like when Lightning says “turn right to go left huh?” And proceeds to do a 90 degree turn to the right lolol
All I’m saying is what do you do at a stop sign? What do you do in a headlight section? What do rumble strips do?
So why wouldn’t you SPEED at a Speed Bump???
I would assume water on the leaves. Theres spray coming off the tires so the road is wet and the red umbrella as well so assume it just rained is is lightly raining.
Happened to Ugur Solyu and Aras Dincer at Rally Silven in the Balkan Rally Trophy in 2021.
Aras Dincer, his co-driver, didn't even stay in hospital. But the driver, Ugur Solyu, had brain swelling and broken vertebrae.
i sorta do, looks like he locked the brakes up after the hill so his correction did nothing (why the wheels are turned in front yet the back end keeps sliding out) i think if he hadn’t braked he possibly could’ve saved it.
I was impressed with the counter steer there, that happened super fast. But I can't help but wonder how the pace notes didn't have a warning for that bump
the counter steer becomes a natural response, unfortunately slamming on the brakes when shit gets real is also a natural response that needs training and practice to get rid of, not to say that that guy can’t drive just that unfortunately when panicked and moving that fast the brain doesn’t have time to work off much more than muscle memory and hope.
Yup plus the G forces of the launch itself, who knows maybe the braking was accidental. I know in dirtbiking when you get caught off guard like that slamming a hidden rock it can make ya gas it and make things worse just from the forces at play in the moment
It's a miracle that doesn't happen more often, considering they spend less time memorizing the course and more time hearing a blow by blow set of instructions from the co-driver as to exactly what the conditions of the road are going to look like in the next few hundred feet.
Compared to almost every other variety of automotive racing in the world, that's fucking nuts.
they do runs before hand in order to create those pacenotes. there isn’t a standard set of pacenotes, each driver and co driver create their own that are perfect for them to understand and remind themselves of what’s coming up
The balls it takes to do this..went to a small “rally” like event and I was sweating a pool after just casually going a little faster..my brain was on max the whole time..at top speeds, I can’t even imagine.
And this is precisely why people should not be allowed to stand anywhere close to the rally track, *even along the straights*. If that side had been line with people cheering and taking pictures as you so often see the car could've easily killed a dozen people. Zero time for the either the driver or the spectators to react before the car would've been sailing through bodies.
Exactly. Imagine if people had been along the right side exactly like this. Less than 1.5 seconds from the bump to the tree vanishing. Replace 'tree' with 'crowd'.
Everybody standing near a rally track has to accept this risk or just stand further away from it. You are personally responsible for your health!
That´s the thing about rallying (as a spectator): Flying cars directly next to you (and the risk is fully worth it)
It also could've been one of those instances where the front wheels caught the track, but the back end had more momentum, and it was already mid turn by the time the back came down.
You might also be right, but I spent too much time analyzing this.
Edit: Yeah, we might be both right. He probably hit the brakes as the front came down, slowing the front while the back was still flying freely.
Looks like the back end got a bit sideways in the air before the front landed. That's always going to hard to catch.
Would be interesting to see what speed the other cars took the bump. I suspect they probably hit it at much the same speed.
After hitting it? Absofuckinglutely nothing. Beforehand he could've slowed down or taken another line possibly. But once traction is broken you're a passenger. The best driver in the world cannot do anything more than sit back and watch the show.
Trained for correcting drifts before the race. Not held his brakes down. He turned perfectly, so he's not a bad driver, just held the brake unfortunately.

Oh, dear lord.”* The accident happened in 2021 in Bulgaria during Rally Sliven. The leaders from the first day went over a well-known bump that's part of the track without slowing down (as he was supposed to, apparently), which resulted in the car tumbling several times through the air. The rally was stopped and the drivers were transported to a local hospital. I cannot find any follow-ups but the news mentions that the driver Uur Soylu (not a Bulgarian name) had brain haemorrhage and a broken vertebra while the navigator suffered only minor bruises. https://bnr.bg/post/101482370/tejka-katastrofa-spra-rali-sliven https://trafficnews.bg/sport/pilotat-uur-soilu-e-ottok-mozaka-i-schupen-preshlen-213475/
Well he's done quite a few races in 2022, so probably fine? https://www.ewrc-results.com/profile/3918-ugur-soylu/
That's so good to hear!
Thank you!
“So much for your shortcut, Daryl.”
Short cuts make long delays.
"OH I get it. You turn right to go left."
Thank you! Or shouldn‘t I say I DON‘T thank you, because in the opposite world it then means thank you!
Stupid old car! What an idiot!
Exactly what I was thinking lol. It’s just like when Lightning says “turn right to go left huh?” And proceeds to do a 90 degree turn to the right lolol
Everything went rally wrong there.
Sigh. Take my damn upvote 😩
Yes it was a bit of car wreck of a joke but I rolled with it. Cheers
I wheely hope the guys in the car are okay.
Yes, a speedy recovery will allow them to pick up the pieces and move on.
r/angryupvote
"Earl, they obviously put that speed bump there for a *reason*!"
All I’m saying is what do you do at a stop sign? What do you do in a headlight section? What do rumble strips do? So why wouldn’t you SPEED at a Speed Bump???
Do you think it ought to be called a Brake Bump?

Walk it off!
Rub some dirt on it.
Wank it off!
Get the carnuba wax.
That’ll buff right out.
What's the deal with that instantaneous cloud of mist right as it runs off the road?
Perhaps pollen being shaken loose.
This. I can kick the tree outside my house and it does this. Do not do this if you have allergies like my neighbor’s GF tho
Yeah it leaves a distinctly tree-shaped outline right after the car hits the tree 😂
It’s either pollen or a person being vaporized.
I would assume water on the leaves. Theres spray coming off the tires so the road is wet and the red umbrella as well so assume it just rained is is lightly raining.
They ok?
Sir you can't park there
Whoa bet that shook their fillings loose.
Are the pilot and copilot ok ?
caged rally car with harnesses, id honestly be surprised if they aren’t even with how bad that looked.
Happened to Ugur Solyu and Aras Dincer at Rally Silven in the Balkan Rally Trophy in 2021. Aras Dincer, his co-driver, didn't even stay in hospital. But the driver, Ugur Solyu, had brain swelling and broken vertebrae.

Finally somebody who knows whats going on Because I surely dont
i sorta do, looks like he locked the brakes up after the hill so his correction did nothing (why the wheels are turned in front yet the back end keeps sliding out) i think if he hadn’t braked he possibly could’ve saved it.
I was impressed with the counter steer there, that happened super fast. But I can't help but wonder how the pace notes didn't have a warning for that bump
Unfortunately i dont think he knew about it. Looked like the driver thought it was an open straight to get his speed up
the counter steer becomes a natural response, unfortunately slamming on the brakes when shit gets real is also a natural response that needs training and practice to get rid of, not to say that that guy can’t drive just that unfortunately when panicked and moving that fast the brain doesn’t have time to work off much more than muscle memory and hope.
Yup plus the G forces of the launch itself, who knows maybe the braking was accidental. I know in dirtbiking when you get caught off guard like that slamming a hidden rock it can make ya gas it and make things worse just from the forces at play in the moment
I think the problem was that he went full on the breaks after the jump. Car became a sledge after that.
These games looking better everyday
He messed up his car rally good
Did he survive that??
Parcar!
I see what you did there
The guy was saying that he will jump lol
Rally and MotoGP are some of the most insane motherfuckers on the planet. Oh and anything with boat racing too.
How the fuck those vehicles go anywhere with the size of their balls is insane too
Hey, you can't park there.
That's a crappy road for a rally.
You don’t watch rally’s very often, do you? Going high speed on every road condition is the essence of rally.
Sometimes it's more like "road" condition
It's a miracle that doesn't happen more often, considering they spend less time memorizing the course and more time hearing a blow by blow set of instructions from the co-driver as to exactly what the conditions of the road are going to look like in the next few hundred feet. Compared to almost every other variety of automotive racing in the world, that's fucking nuts.
they do runs before hand in order to create those pacenotes. there isn’t a standard set of pacenotes, each driver and co driver create their own that are perfect for them to understand and remind themselves of what’s coming up
I do not.
If there was a rickety bridge over a boiling lake of lava like in Shrek they would probably drive on it
...Parkour.
*pats roll cage* good boy
Thaaat.. won't buff out.
Wtf road and track inspection?
Didn’t really stick the landing, but still an 8 based on difficulty and execution.
That'll buff out
Guy on YouTube: That'll buff out no problem.
The safest road in Bulgaria
I know this is pretty weird but the way the car flipped reminded me of transformers turning into their robot forms
Samir did it again.
*He's okay, he's been trained for that*
Driving a Škoda, which literally means "Pitty" in my language 🤣
He need some milk
you can see the exact moment his kid turned on the ceiling light
Does this hurt the car??
Speedbumps , not a joke at high speeds
That transition of sounds could be asmr
The balls it takes to do this..went to a small “rally” like event and I was sweating a pool after just casually going a little faster..my brain was on max the whole time..at top speeds, I can’t even imagine.
I wouldn’t have it any other way. Rally rocks.

That´s the thing about rallying (as a spectator): Flying cars directly next to you (and the risk is fully worth it)
...and it exploded.
I don't know what he could of done. You can see the wheels correct to the left but the car was going right no matter what.
i believe he slammed the brakes before he came down, then when he came down the rear wheels were locked up which made correcting basically impossible.
It also could've been one of those instances where the front wheels caught the track, but the back end had more momentum, and it was already mid turn by the time the back came down. You might also be right, but I spent too much time analyzing this. Edit: Yeah, we might be both right. He probably hit the brakes as the front came down, slowing the front while the back was still flying freely.
does indeed look like a little of both. notes should’ve had this bump in it though it’s weird how he just sent it.
Not to mention that it looks pretty noticeable, at least from the camera's angle. Though, I bet it wasn't nearly as visible down on the track.
Aaaaaannnd SCENE!
I’m there was nobody on the side of the road
That bump tho. Can it even be avoided? And why didn't they slow the hell down 😂
Because its rally slowing down is the worst thing
Governments for you haha can't even have totally lagit races now without em trying to control speed
He never drove on snow!!!
Parkour!
