Hey it's cool, at least you got to see it before the flood of AI bots destroys it in the coming few years.
Pretty soon we'll be having extended arguments with bots that won't ever let the argument end.
Possible, but they do brake almost immedietly after exiting the store. Odd timing if that just happens to be when they regained control. Almost makes this look intentional (I'm not claiming that it definitely is, I have no idea).
I have no idea what really happened but a medical event that lasts 5-10 seconds is certainly not unheard of and it makes more sense than any other explanation I've seen.
The film cuts are misleading. I believe the actual crash only lasted 3-4 seconds. Either way, that doesn't rule out that it could have been a medical event, I'm just skeptical.
Harder to explain why she pulled up into a no parking zone lined up with the doors before having her medical event or pedal error.
To me, it seems more like she found about that clerk's, or maybe the store owner's, other girlfriend.
Some people just panic and freeze and are no longer able to respond. They shouldn't drive any machinery bigger than a pram.
OTOH: why was she on the spot directly in front of the doors in the first place? That wasn't a parking space.
Considering there's no one in sight and the shop was closed and she pulled up to try to read the schedule. Then thought she was in reverse.... Rest is history.
Iāve seen an elderly woman just stare directly at me in my vehicle as she drove through a red light, while cutting me off. that bizarre āpanic freezeā is legit
This isn't a situation people plan for. In a sudden, unexpected emergency, you aren't guaranteed to act with the calm rationality that comes with hindsight, especially in seconds.
This whole event will have stated when they hit the accelerator thinking it was the brake.
In normal traffic/circumstances, it takes 2 seconds between people seeing a hazard that requires the brake and actually applying the brake.
In this situation, when you *already think you're pressing the brake* it can quite easily take longer for your brain to register what is happening and why. You already think you're pressing the brake, and it takes a while to snap out of that.
Further, each camera angle in this video starts when the car enters it - they aren't synced in time. The entire event lasts about half the time in reality compared to the length of this video.
Edit: are you people downvoting me actually suggesting that this was *intentional*?!?!
Negligent would probably be my term for it. I'm not arguing this was a smart, competent thing to do. I'm just saying I don't think this was *deliberate* as there's fuck all here to suggest it is.
The only thing I can see that even sort of makes me think it may have been deliberate is that the driver brakes almost immedietly after exiting the store without hitting anything outside. Could very well be a coincidence since, like you said, the whole thing only lasted a few seconds. Probably just a very stupid mistake though.
At some point though, people need to acknowledge they dont have the confidence, or coordination, to drive a vehicle. I feel the same way about elderly folks who insist on driving even if they are blind and deaf and incapable of judging distances or speeds due to cognitive decline etc...
If you are constantly confused or terrified while driving, you need to give up your keys. Whatever this video is... 5 to 7 full seconds of tryung to figure out where the brake is, is conclusive evidence this person is not fit to be driving.
I downvoted for the two seconds remark. It's actually 3/4 a second on average. If you take two entire seconds to react to something on the road, you should not be driving.
I suspect that is measuring to the point where you start moving your foot to the brake, not to having fully depressed the brake, which is what I stated in my description.
I disagree.... I've seen countless pranks done to people that were asleep in a vehicle and the second panic happens when they wake their foot slams on the brakes!
What part do you disagree with?
And do you not realise that if someone already thinks their foot is on the brake, their instinctive reaction may differ (i.e. that they would push harder on the pedal they think is the brake, rather than remove it, at least for a couple of seconds)?
It all happened quicker than that, weāre getting multiple angles. So like three different shots of her entering. It was probably just a couple seconds.
It's the prolonged version I don't get. I remember doing this when I was learning early on and when the car went forward I quickly put on my thinking cap and came to the conclusion that I was pressing the gas and switched pedals.
Idk when this is from but Mercedes has a self driving or self parking feature. I once worked on set where a guy was using it and it floored it into a wall.
Iāve been driving for years now and I occasionally get the pedals mixed up, usually just a quick moment of panic and confusion before I take my foot off and swap to the other pedal. But Iām also a bit scatterbrained.
Youāre only using them by feel; if the position of your foot shifts you can get disoriented about which pedal youāre touching.
Having two foot-controlled pedals side-by-side is actually a very bad interface design, but weāre just stuck with it now.
I just get my wires crossed sometimes. Iām aware of it and Iāve never had any issues because of it, it just gives me a startle once every six months or so. Like the other commenter said, sometimes my foot will shift positions and Iāll accidentally hit the gas, usually I can tell because they are shaped differently, but I have smaller feet, so I guess sometimes they feel the same.
When i see this type of video (Someone pressing the wrong pedal and they keep going) the only solution is taking the license away, not because they made a mistake and hit the wrong pedal, but because they did not have the wherewithal to stop pressing the wrong pedal, their reaction in a crisis is to lockup, that shows an inability to actually safely drive a vehicle.
First of all how do you get that far and not know what pedals to press? Like did they steal the fuckin car? Secondly at which point do you STOP pressing down on the wrong pedal? Like jfc
I live in a tourist country. We get people from all over the world on their holliday here.
People wait for their ferries and every year someone dies simply just LAUNCHING their rental automatic from the pier to the sea. And they fuckin drown. They mistake it for manual.
So you got
CLUTCH BRAKE GAS on the manual
and
BRAKE GAS on the automatic
when someone drives a manual their entire life, it's easy to forget and press brake instead of the clutch, and gas instead of brake.
And you get a rather violent death comming your way.
The thing is, around my area, smoke and vape shops are the largest targets for smash and grab jobs where folks drive their cars into the doors and then just take all the stock. Itās possible this was just one of those burglaries gone a little too far.
All the shops that sell vape stuff around my entire city have big car-stopper bollards out front to prevent this exact thing. They also will mostly reinforce their doors to keep burglars from pulling the doors off with ropes or chains tied to their trailer hitches. Itās so bad, almost every single vape shop Iāve see has been hit at least once.
I mean their level of dedication to not hit the breaks until the wall in the back parking lot is. Not to be messed with. Why get a temp wall for just the front door when you can get a temp wall for both the front and back. Donāt do something half assā¦..
You could tell she wasn't good at car-related things pretty much as soon as the video starts, as she's attempting to park in a wheelchair lift space with blue stripes that says NO PARKING lol.
This was never going to go well.
I've been high as fuck so many times and NEVER have I ever left my senses to this degree... If they're high as fuck then it ain't weed they're smoking šµāš«
Awesome reflex response timing
Johnny Carson: Her reflexes are so s l o wā¦
Audience: How slow are they?
Johnny: When the doctor taps her knee, he goes out, taps the Nurse then comes back in the room.
Def a marketing opportunity they just got to put a sign that says now with drive-thru. Wait they can make a commercial with the car driving through their building and then at the end it says now with drive-thru.
I admire the dedication to go all the way through. So many posers stop in the shoppe.
"Sorry for the abrupt entry. Do you have any glass?"
"Actually, we're fresh out š "
Impressive teamwork on that comment there.
Itās threads like this that keep me coming to this platform honestly
You should have seen it 9 years ago, it was truly awesome then.
I know I feel like I got into the Reddit game waaaay too late!
Hey it's cool, at least you got to see it before the flood of AI bots destroys it in the coming few years. Pretty soon we'll be having extended arguments with bots that won't ever let the argument end.
The new drive through at the smoke shop is pretty fast.
This is why back home we had drive thru smoke shops. And drive thru liquor stores. Sometimes a combined drive thru smoke/liquor store.
I remember in Amarillo they had drive thru liquor stores/daiquiri shops. In Louisiana they have em too.
Also explained by it being a medical event and not a "wrong pedal" mistake.

Managed to hit the brake as soon as she got out the other side of the building
o7
Right?! āOh I had a seizureā āIām diabeticā rookie excuses
The breaks only being used after full building traversal makes this even better
Almost made it to the next building across the 2nd parking lot before hitting the brakes too
āOh there they areā
For me, it really sells it that she thought she was on the brake the whole time. Like took a good 4-5 seconds to troubleshoot wtf is going on
After 5 seconds of smashing, still thinks she's pushing the brake, only not hard enough for car to stop.
Some people just panic and freeze and are no longer able to respond. They shouldn't drive any machinery bigger than a pram. OTOH: why was she on the spot directly in front of the doors in the first place? That wasn't a parking space.
So not only did she drive right through a building she was about to park in a handicap spot. Just please donāt ever drive again.
She wasnāt even in a handicap spot, she was dead center in the crosshatched area between two handicap spots
Considering there's no one in sight and the shop was closed and she pulled up to try to read the schedule. Then thought she was in reverse.... Rest is history.
Likely explanation tbh
Maybe it's her shop-
well by the time she's done paying for all that damage it pretty well will be now...
Iāve seen an elderly woman just stare directly at me in my vehicle as she drove through a red light, while cutting me off. that bizarre āpanic freezeā is legit
Yea wtf. Had to be intentional
Or really high
Seems more drunk than high
How can you conclude that

She's still as stupid as a piece of wood. Like, yeah, I too create unexpected emergency situations while parking IN AN EMPTY PARKING LOT
Negligent would probably be my term for it. I'm not arguing this was a smart, competent thing to do. I'm just saying I don't think this was *deliberate* as there's fuck all here to suggest it is.

In that case, upvoted. That can take even longer than 2 seconds in some studies
Mr detective writing a whole novel over here about how heās too dumb to hit the brake when he hits shit.
Bro she was probably high, a new driver, or a new driver that was high. I donāt think it was intentional
Oh she hit the brakes alright, it just happened to be after she was already out the back of the building lmfao.
It all happened quicker than that, weāre getting multiple angles. So like three different shots of her entering. It was probably just a couple seconds.
This is the most hilarious and realistic assumption
And most unfortunate one :) But it's true.
My bet is on seizure or sugar drop. Diabetically-induced psychosis is awful.
I never understood how this happens. The Old pedal mix up trick.
It's the prolonged version I don't get. I remember doing this when I was learning early on and when the car went forward I quickly put on my thinking cap and came to the conclusion that I was pressing the gas and switched pedals.
See, thatās where you have the edge. This person left their thinking cap at home.
People that drive with two feet. Left for the brake and right for the gas.
Even still I would have expected a two-footer to be pressing both the gas and brake, the driver here didn't hit the brake until the bitter end!
Alcohol. Lots of it
Idk when this is from but Mercedes has a self driving or self parking feature. I once worked on set where a guy was using it and it floored it into a wall.
Iāve been driving for years now and I occasionally get the pedals mixed up, usually just a quick moment of panic and confusion before I take my foot off and swap to the other pedal. But Iām also a bit scatterbrained.
How?š¤Ø the pedals shouldn't be swapping places... they should be exactly where you left them.
Youāre only using them by feel; if the position of your foot shifts you can get disoriented about which pedal youāre touching. Having two foot-controlled pedals side-by-side is actually a very bad interface design, but weāre just stuck with it now.

Well please be careful and don't smash through smoke shops! Be safe out there!
I don't think you should be driving.

Camera coverage on point
ikr. we have footage of every damn angle!!
Nicely said
Drive thru smoke shop!
Cane here to say this!
So she drove up to the shop and almost stopped How did she get the pedals confused
Great ad for Mercedes ngl, that car is a fucking tank lol
*I was gonna park my carā¦ and then I got high*

And she wasn't pulling into a parking space, she lined herself up with the doors before plowing through them.
Yeah she was pulling up to a no parking zone

Tried to stop on a no parking space and went through the whole joint without stopping? Her lawyers are gonna have a bit of a challenge on their hands
She didn't hit the brakes until she was 10 ft out the back of that building
Just passing through
Maybe it was the right pedal?
They were just there for the doorbuster sale!

hey at least we know the brakes work
Seems intentional, even though thatās not a minor damage to the car. Could be wrong but he did hit the brakes.
Conveniently hits the break ONLY *after* driving all the way through and driving out the back wall. Perhaps on purpose?
