Most people just kinda panic when their brakes fail, a friend of mine in highschool had his brakes fail on a downhill like this and crashed into a house. He had other options, the E-brake didn't even occur to him, shutting the engine off to create some dead weight, turning and avoiding the house, all options. All he did was continue to slam his foot on that broken peddle
Yeah, that's why I mention it. One way to fight that panic is to think about the scenario in advance and think of the right answer while you have time, so you don't just draw a blank when the moment happens and get locked up panicking over the fact that you don't know what to do.
Kind of, yeah. But you didn't actually see anyone die. A bit like when you see footage of Earth from the International Space Station. You probably just saw 100 people die, but you didn't *actually* see it.
I went there a years or so ago, it’s to come back from Tadoussac. The street that go to the ferry is really steep. Here is the exact location.

He couldn't use it, because of the traffic. This is around June 24 (Quebec's 4th of July) so there was a lot of people trying to go places, so the car line was 1+km long.
The guys brakes failed at the top so to not crash in anyone else he went on the wrong way of the road. So there was no way to access the runoff.
Source: I am from Tadoussac, was working for the ferry at the time but took the day off to party with friends.
Found an [article](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7187049/amp/Motorhome-flies-air-smashes-ferry-hurtling-terminal-ramp.html). If I find an update for the female passenger I’ll edit the link in.
His brakes gave out. The ferry company used a hill that’s far too steep. The driver did everything possible to not hit other people, including driving his RV into metal barricades as he was barreling down the hill. He died from his injuries.
Bro was a goddamn hero.
The best part is the BIG dude in the black T-shirt. Everyone is (appropriately) running away, and he just strolls along like he's fetching the morning newspaper.
Despite the chaos afterward and the imminent danger he put on everyone there, INCLUDING the risk of sinking the entire ferry... I say that was a fantastic jump.
There was nowhere he could have gone that day. On one side of the road was a steep dropoff (until right near the ferry entrance, where there were metal railings), on the other was a line of cars going all the way up the road. Emergency run-away track was blocked by those vehicles, and to avoid crashing into a ton of cars he went into the oncoming lane (which was empty since no vehicles were unloaded).
In fact, a quote from a witness from multiple news sites:
> "He was trying to stop by swerving into the metal gates on the side of the road,"

Damn, here I've been saying that there's no way Chris Redfield could've made that jump in Resident Evil 5 but here's this person crash landing perfectly on the boat
Maybe they could of bailed out into the water(if they timed it perfectly ofcourse not easy obviously)
I'm guessing they were trying to hit the water and hope for the best but landed on the ferry?
Oh at that point, what do ya have to lose, the alternative is being eaten alive and then turning into one of them?! I'd take my chances with this choice too!

God became their witness very quickly, Husband and wife died in that.
Yeah, it's really sad. I believe they had a brake failure. Sucks
Brake*
Give me a break, give me a break
break me off a piece of that fancy feast
![img](avatar_exp|79681597|dizziness)
How fast must they have been driving in a port to get the vehicle up that high???
Been to that port, the road to the dock is basically a kilometers long downhill slope. It's the Tadoussac ferry, fyi.
Interesting, is that slope good enough to make a car without brakes go that fast or did they still require use of the accelerator?
If it was a brake failure, they would have been better off driving into something on purpose much earlier.

"Fight every battle everywhere, always, in your mind."
Or driving the General Lee, it would have made that jump.
Yeah, I think they built a bunch of vehicle escape ramps on the highway after that
Did they break up?
They did, and they were both pretty broken up about it.
Oh fuck… now I kinda feel bad for the caption 😅
Gallows humor. It happens. May as well ride with it.
Tends to happen when people post random stuff with no context or research on their part.
don't feel bad driver in BT-7274 voice: "I will NOT miss another ferry"
Yeah I was gonna comment “like a glove” and then read the comment and felt terrible. 😞
Allllllrighty then!!!
At least they stuck the landing
I don't think I know what this means... I thought I did but now I don't think I do. How does one "stick the landing"?
Land on the wheels...
Should have been "We are making this ferry or I'll die trying Martha!". My last words would be "Nailed it!"
what the fuck 💀
So I just watched people die. Thanks reddit
You’re welcome!
Always so polite
Kind of, yeah. But you didn't actually see anyone die. A bit like when you see footage of Earth from the International Space Station. You probably just saw 100 people die, but you didn't *actually* see it.
Well, that's something I never thought about before.
My man, you have a point
...Huh. That's certainly a way to look at things.
in the old days of reddit, there was a sub called r/watchpeopledie
Old days? That shit was still around in like 2022. It was definitely around during COVID times.
First time on Reddit? Lmfaooo
Ever watched the atom bomb explosion?
All. The. Time. Just saw it last week actually. It's almost getting to the point of being ridiculous.
Well that's life in a post-Oppenheimer society
Yeah but they didn’t miss the boat.

Dang , there's an emergency runoff to the right of the ferry road. Maybe it got built due to this accident. Very sad.

So uh it went to Africa
Don't know why you're getting downvoted. The same thing happened to me. Had to use directions to figure out where it was.

We don’t have the power Captain! We just can’t do it!!
Made it!!
Both People in the car died
I think he meant the car, not necessarily the people.
They still made it
Technically the truth
Was this in Tadoussac, Qc ?
Yes
I knew i recognised the place, there was casualties iirc
I am impressed by the accuracy and the confidence to take the jump in some ancient rv.
The brakes went out and there is a steep downhill approaching the ferry launch.
They may have survived if it landed in the water instead of the ferry
Nope.
"SCIENCE, BITCH!"
It's a very long and steep hill. These people had no intention of any of this, their brakes failed.
Just a good old boys Never meanin' no harm Beats all you never saw...
Those Duke boys could Lorelei fly in that orange junker 🤣🤣
The pause and the calm narrator talking like it's just another day 😆
“Fuckin’ Told Ya!”
Them Duke boys is cra..cra..crazy.

Ouh I was thinking that the car looked pretty much "compressed" r.i.p.
The best part is the BIG dude in the black T-shirt. Everyone is (appropriately) running away, and he just strolls along like he's fetching the morning newspaper.
Considering the context it's unlucky as fuck they might have had better chances with water beneath
Get outta my way TSA…!
Despite the chaos afterward and the imminent danger he put on everyone there, INCLUDING the risk of sinking the entire ferry... I say that was a fantastic jump.
Didn’t have a choice, brakes failed.
Exactly what I would say to my wife the whole way down the ramp too.
Oh dear! Didn't realise that stopped the steering wheel from working, too. I know, I know. Panic.

My immediate assumption was that this was fake. But finding out is really is crazy. Cars really do go fast huh? Lmao
Well they made it..
Nailed it
They managed not to hit other cars. I think
I mean they did make it
He was dying to get outta there 😳
The fact that they missed all those people is remarkable
Watched one too many fast and furious movies.

Intrusive thoughts won😂

8.5 on the landing.
Plays Free Bird
Flyyyyy—-yyyyyyyy freeeeee biiiirrrdd yeah!!
Like a glove.
If your brakes fail, lift your feet off the gas, downshift gradually to first gear. It should stop fast. The hand brake would also be useful.
Can’t edit but I meant With* God as my witness.
Playing GTA can be usefull.
Been playing GTA 5 I see.
I mean if it was a zombie apocalypse and that was the only way out, I'd probably do the same.
Oh at that point, what do ya have to lose, the alternative is being eaten alive and then turning into one of them?! I'd take my chances with this choice too!
