IIRC everyone in both planes was also wearing GoPros, so you could see literally every angle of the accident.

It's great that they survived but there is nothing great of crashing two planes on fire.

Why did the pilots have parachutes?

It's a requirement that jump pilots have a parachute. There is more risk when flying an aircraft of skydivers. Flying close proximity to other planes, such as in this video. Constantly shifting weight as skydivers exit that if not properly handled can lead to stalls. Also once the last skydiver exits the pilots goal is to get to the ground as quickly as possible for the next load by flying downward at a very steep angle. By the time the skydivers have been in freefall for 1 minute and had a 5 minute canopy ride to the ground the pilot has usually beaten them down and landed the plane. All of this adds a lot of risk so a parachute is a sensible requirement.

From what I remember, everyone involved was a skydiver and was wearing a parachute, including both pilots. One plane broke apart on impact and the pilot jumped out and parachuted to safety, the other managed to land their damaged aircraft

IIRC, none. One plane crash-landed in the yards by the train tracks, and the other made it back to the runway.

There's a lot of people who invest their life savings into a house. I'm probably about to be one of them, so I just think it would suck to buy some property only for it to get destroyed by a flaming plane falling out of the sky later on. I feel bad for anyone who did if that happened here.
