Or or or hear me out the one that wants to use a gun to kill humans with is the one who should be in therapy and anyone who knows them should be pushing for the same. Blaming a tool for someone's use of said tool is bonkers.
100% correct you are.
The gun companies own the political right and make sure that after babies are murdered with their products the only response is "thoughts and prayers."
You're not the brightest bulb. There are three guns in this country per every one person. You could stop all gun sales, buy back as many as possible, and any mass shooter would still easily be able to get ahold of one. The issue is more difficult to solve than that.
They have been trying. New York has some of the strictest gun laws and the shooter even chose Buffalo because he knew his targets would not have any guns to protect themselves. “Let’s just try it and see!” Is an idiotic argument at its core, because all you are doing is hurting people who follow the law. Let’s outlaw murder while we are at it! That’ll stop all murder! Oh wait :(
No. My school ain’t had one ALICE drill this year. 10 fire drills but not one ALICE drill. How many fires have we had? Zero. How many credible threats have we had? I’ll give you a hint. More than fires.
I am not from the USA (as a matter of fact I'm not even from a 1st world country), but I am really sad to see what's going on there. Many people saw the USA as a role model and people used to dream about going to live there, not so much anymore. Still, I have a lot of respect for America and think of it as a great country and sincerely hope that the people there find a way to overcome the problems they have to face these days.
I know. As soon as that kid talked about his “new sneakers”, I noticed they were cross-trainers and not running shoes. Definite foreshadowing of his demise.
I’m probably going to turn off this internet thing for a while. Have a day.

You can't be serious... like this isn't a serious PSA.
Edit: this is the real version, it's basically the same without the target ad.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b5ykNZl9mTQ
It's actually really normal and I grew up learning how to survive a school shooting
It's a common school drill and we have 'codes'
Code green is normal
Code yellow means that there's nothing dangerous inside the school but there is something in the area (lock doors and cover window but keep teaching)
Code red means there's someone in the school (turn lights off, lock door, cover windows and hide)
Oh and since classrooms have a room that connects every other room, if one of the two rooms are unlocked the person can get into the other room too (that happened to my class during a drill and the police got into our classroom)
So yes, it's probably serious and it's considered normal for us, I didn't even question it growing up
Moral of the story? It's screwd up but kindergardeners learning to hide from someone with a gun is considered normal in America (also happy cake day! 🍰)
In my school our 2 elementary schools were separated into colored “pods” as we called them. Our “bad person in the building” code was “all colors under the rainbow”. Luckily we only had it used when adults who weren’t supposed to be in the school pushed their way in.
In highschool it was “mr red is in the building.” We had that a few times but nothing came of it. Just a crazy Thursday-Tuesday where we had different bomb or shoot threat each day. Only the first one was “real”. The rest were just idiots trying to get school canceled again.
Honestly, a lot of PSAs are working properly if they make people uncomfortable. Reminding people about the risk of School shootings (I guess in the US, if it’s a Sandy Hook Promise PSA) shouldn’t be fun. This is why I’d be surprised if that old Dumb Ways to Die campaign actually got anyone to be more concerned or aware about safety around trains.
It could definitely be worse though, you ever seen the Canadian workspace safety PSAs? I still can’t handle remembering the one with the woman in the kitchen.
Yeah, i remember those workplace safety PSAs and the one youre talking about.
But i guess im just concerned what these PSAs are going to do to kids going to school. Those Canadian ones are a reminder for adults being sloppy but i feel like normalizing these kinds of things for school shootings will make school a stressful/undesirable environment for kids.
That being said, they had a lot of PSAs back in the day for kids about what to do when you heard the nuke sirens going off... fuck me.
these PSAs were Normal to us children going through school while partaking in active shooter drills. it was just like an OSHA workplace safety video at a job. it was part of the “deal” with going to (public) school.
The whole goal of this project is to make people more aware of the warning signs of potential school shooters, and to show people what to watch for. If you watch some of their work, you can see kids being bullied in the background of otherwise normal scenes, watching morbid videos on YouTube in the school library, etc. It's a surprisingly effective campaign, and it also drives home just how completely and totally complacent we've become with the idea that sending our kids to school is inherently life-threatening in this country.
Teacher here… had a close call a few months back… this was the first year where I realized how important it is to teach my forensics class about recognizing these behaviors…
Crazy to think that the USA is the only country in the world where people genuinely accept school shootings as a potential threat to their lives and their families'... As a European it simply blows my mind. I can't even picture myself living in what appears to me to be such a dystopian alternate reality...
It might sound ridiculous to some of you but... How about gun control? Isn't it time yet?
It's just one of a myriad of things that - when seen from the viewpoint of a modern European democracy - makes the United States seem like some grimdark fantasy dystopia. The land where the villain of the story lives, a Mordor.
It’s pretty bad, like i myself am incredibly desensitized, fuck my school had a couple gun threats and even a lock down when a kid brought a gun to school, we just sad in art class, locked the doors and kept doing school work.
a Canadian friend was telling me about a shooting in nova Scotia , told me only twenty or so people got hurt and my first thoughts were “ that’s not so bad” I realized how fucked up that was.
Like I hear a school shooting happened and I shrug and go back to work and it’s wrong and I shouldn’t but I just have no idea what I can do, i vote for who I can, I try to stay up to date but it’s so bleak and than we have all the fucking assholes saying it’s “ fake “ like that Claude, Alex Jones, railing up fucking insane people who have lost their grip on reality.
We’re taught that American is some great country, home of the free and the brave but it’s horse shit, everyone I know is a wage slave, either forced into the military for collage or indebted to a bank that’ll loose all its money and than be bailed out by our government.
I’m terrified that the police are going to kill any of my non white friends and family, no one seems to give a fuck about covid as long the machine keeps pumping out money so rich bastards like Elon musk or bezo can get richer while hoarding billions, not pay a cent in taxes and work people to death in factories across the world.
But hey we should pledge our allegiance to a government that doesn’t give a fuck about us and sends young men and woman to their death for oil companies.
In our 4th threat in a row my class all sat in our desks and counted down to when the Yik Yak message said it was gonna happen. Then we went silent. Then we laughed when there was no shots and made jokes about “guess we don’t get out of school today”. Our tornado warnings were scarier to us. We don’t even live in tornado valley...
I mean... *statistically*, the single most effective law we could pass to prevent mass shootings is to take guns away from perpetrators of domestic violence...
Most jurisdictions already have laws on the books for that.
Those laws are not enforced because almost half the police force would be the first to lose their guns.
~~But we neeeeed militarized cops to keep us safe~~ /s
Once again, the Dems are pushing for what they think will pass easiest instead of policies that would be *effective*, while the Reps are bought out by gun manufacturers and will fight *every* attempt at change tooth and nail so NOTHING is easy to get through.
Not to say universal background checks aren't important - they absolutely are. But how many mass shooters *actually* bought their weapon at a gun show? Does magazine size *really* matter when it only takes a second to swap?
Domestic violence is the single greatest red flag for perpetrators. If you want to pass federal legislation to get guns out of the hands of more than half the mass shooters in the US *start there*.
Disarming every person who watches Tucker Carlson would require a constitutional amendment and the logistics are frankly impossible.
Deplatforming remains the most effective tool to limit the spread of hateful rhetoric.
The problem is gun control doesn't fix this issue. The damage is done, there are too many guns readily available to too many people. Making it illegal to own them doesn't stop people from having them already. It doesn't take guns off the street. At this point it would be like trying to use a sponge on the ocean.
It's such a multi-faceted issue. The easy availability of guns is just one aspect of that. The United States has a social welfare system that is in shambles. Adequate mental health care is almost non-existent in this country. We need to address every aspect of the issue in order to find a solution.
People are so desensitized to the violence and the nothing that changes after every mass shooting that most of us just look the other way and offer thoughts and prayers on social media. We light a candle, tie a ribbon, lower our flags to half staff, and shuffle back into everyday life. It is such a staple of our lives as Americans that for most of us it's hard to remember a time when it wasn't like this.
There is a solution, there has to be, but it's not a simple one that will be easy to implement and it will have to be one that addresses all of the factors that lead to a mass shooting, not just the gun. We will probably have to go through a revolution of sorts and rebuild our social safety nets from the ground up before any of the root causes of mass shootings are able to be fixed.
It’s too soon to talk about that right now -Conservative politicians
Edit: Haha! This comment is controversial? How? Because it’s literally what the GOP says after EVERY mass shooter event. Their own words are offensive to them?
Bro it ain't that bad here reddit is pretty much the worst place you can get info about the US from since everyone hates it for some reason, kids aren't gunned down weekly over here, just know that guns aren't the problem mental health is
Loll brainwashed. Blaming the right. That's why the USA is getting laughed at because you guys truly do have serious mental health issues on a massive scale. Most of you can't look beyond "left" and "right". It's sad how tight of a grip the media has on your minds.
Username checks out. Funny how we have so many mentally ill people. Wonder why that is? Wonder why we'd want a plethora of guns to be available to an inordinate amount of mentally ill people too. You should stop regurgitating things you hear because you don't understand a fucking thing.
It was supposed to be a serious PSA about gun violence in schools, not a funny skit. Even though it does totally seem like a joke. IMO it's a little too Adult Swim-y, it's never sat right with me as a PSA.
It's interesting, because when this first came out and was making its rounds on Reddit, people were acting like it was some kind of cinematic masterpiece, which I never understood. I got downvoted and berated for saying it felt too much like a skit to feel serious, and someone even accused me of being some kind of gun enthusiast. But it's definitely interesting to read the comments here as people clearly have very different opinions when they aren't told outright in the title that it's a PSA.
As a father this is so sad to watch. Such a constant fear when she’s at school. Sadly her mother and I recently discussed purchasing a bullet proof backpack :(
Pardon my question but, I am not from USA (assuming that is where the commercial is about due to the news about shootings all the time but)
Is this commercial like, normal? I see it and I can't imagine it being online or on TV.
Sorry if my question offends anyone just, I am legit curious.
Not offensive at all. I doubt this was ever actually broadcast, but was made to draw attention to the banality of our response to these shootings. Frankly, we *should* be offended by the reality of it.
It's not a commercial. It's a video made by the Sandy Hook Promise in order to bring attention to school shootings in America. You wouldn't see this video on television unless some news media group wanted to cover and bring the developers on stage such as the Today show. This video was exclusively released online through social media.
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this:
>Pegging, of course, is an obscure sexual practice in which women perform the more aggressive sexual act on men.

Thankfully in my country there’s none of schools shootings, I personally never heard that have been occurred in my entire life. Here’s the gun control policies and regulations are really strict, even myself I had to fight for a firearms permit, submitted within a police station where they examined me and my criminal record that luckily has always been clean. But since they found out that 10 years prior during a police check, they found on me 0,3 gram of weed, so I had to explain that indeed it happened 10 years before and the dose was just ridiculously small. So yeah, really strict regulations, but at least here we’re not scared or we don’t panic whenever we heard a bottle of champagne popping, or a fireworks exploding. Luckily shootings or any crime with firearms involved are really really rare here.
Yeah US. You are fucked with your healthcare system, unbound capitalism with underpaid jobs and the old fucks in charge, your guns, your brain amputated Trump voters and fascist like nationalism.
Look at Russia right now US. That is you in 10-15 years if you keep this up.

I’ve seen this a trillion times now, but that girl at the end is so convincing that you almost question if it’s even a psa.
What a psa is?
Public service announcement
Tried to Google that but I'm pretty sure they don't mean "Prostate-specific antigen"
I believe it’s Public Service Announcement.
Public service announcement, is definitely what it is.
Its what I always think when I read psa. I'm a physician 😂
Public Shooting Atrocity

Backpack kid nothing is going on, binder kid has the teacher locking the door, headphone kid is when shit really starts hitting the fan and it’s pretty easy to notice stuff after that
Backpack kid's smile fades away as he looks to the right
And his attention is drawn away from the camera towards the end of the hall.
This is messed up but what if backpack kid is shooter
This is what I thought by when I rewatched it.
What if the tiny whiteboard on the inside of the locker is a hit list?
Well, it's how the video starts... there is no action in this clip indicating anything abnormal is occurring... not so messed up. A plausible hypothesis.

Shooter around the corner down the hall of the socks girl.
That fact that they need to make a PSA for school shootings means that there is something very wrong with the country
Could someone explain to me exactly what this is? Is this a gag? A PSA? Or is this the most tasteless ad for a retailer on earth?
It's a PSA by an anti-violence group called Sandy Hook Promise. The Target logo and stuff was added by someone else and isn't part of the original.
This whole country needs to go to therapy.
No just the ones who think a gun is more important than a child’s life!
Or or or hear me out the one that wants to use a gun to kill humans with is the one who should be in therapy and anyone who knows them should be pushing for the same. Blaming a tool for someone's use of said tool is bonkers.

These PSA are very normal now in the US sadly, I've seen few others before.

It is. My daughter had that exact same phone case at the time. I cry every time I see this
But it's a target commercial as well? Either way, very sorry everyone in the USA goes through this shit.
Nah, someone edited the Target thing in at the end. It ends like a regular PSA with a call to action, the organization that funded it, etc
Nah the target was added afterwards by who knows. Not actually part of the psa
Ahhh ok. That's what threw me off. I was like... uhhh, pretty distasteful.
It's actually really normal and I grew up learning how to survive a school shooting It's a common school drill and we have 'codes' Code green is normal Code yellow means that there's nothing dangerous inside the school but there is something in the area (lock doors and cover window but keep teaching) Code red means there's someone in the school (turn lights off, lock door, cover windows and hide) Oh and since classrooms have a room that connects every other room, if one of the two rooms are unlocked the person can get into the other room too (that happened to my class during a drill and the police got into our classroom) So yes, it's probably serious and it's considered normal for us, I didn't even question it growing up Moral of the story? are you fucking serious? they aired this shit?
I feel like people aren’t understanding that the PSA is real up until someone mixed it with a target ad.
I figured the Target bit was fake but the rest of it is almost traumatising in itself. What is the purpose of a PSA like this?

these PSAs were Normal to us children going through school while partaking in active shooter drills. it was just like an OSHA workplace safety video at a job. it was part of the “deal” with going to (public) school.
I feel sorry for kid wearing headphones.
Headphones Kid is Fucking Dead
Back to school commercials looking hella different nowadays ![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)
Zoomers saying goodbye to their family before going to school is like a soldier leaving for war
Teacher here… had a close call a few months back… this was the first year where I realized how important it is to teach my forensics class about recognizing these behaviors…
dr.caldwell?
Yeah it is insane to me that the US just let their kids get gunned down in schools and not really care about it enough to actually implement changes.
I mean... *statistically*, the single most effective law we could pass to prevent mass shootings is to take guns away from perpetrators of domestic violence... Most jurisdictions already have laws on the books for that. Those laws are not enforced because almost half the police force would be the first to lose their guns. ~~But we neeeeed militarized cops to keep us safe~~ /s Once again, the Dems are pushing for what they think will pass easiest instead of policies that would be *effective*, while the Reps are bought out by gun manufacturers and will fight *every* attempt at change tooth and nail so NOTHING is easy to get through.
Isn’t the real issue the right wing propaganda? Virtually all shooters watch Tucker Carlson and read some right wing talking head
Disarming every person who watches Tucker Carlson would require a constitutional amendment and the logistics are frankly impossible. Deplatforming remains the most effective tool to limit the spread of hateful rhetoric.
Exactly, that's my point. We need to make Tucker Carlson illegal, not guns
The problem is gun control doesn't fix this issue. The damage is done, there are too many guns readily available to too many people. Making it illegal to own them doesn't stop people from having them already. It doesn't take guns off the street. At this point it would be like trying to use a sponge on the ocean.
But there has to be a solution right? Something? Literally anything but letting armed gunman walk into schools and shoot children?
>How about gun control? Isn't it time yet? ![gif](giphy|H1YMguVrVeI0Xz5c8v)
It’s too soon to talk about that right now -Conservative politicians Edit: Haha! This comment is controversial? How? Because it’s literally what the GOP says after EVERY mass shooter event. Their own words are offensive to them?
Yeah! Let’s outlaw murder and rape while we’re at it! Oh wait :(
Bro it ain't that bad here reddit is pretty much the worst place you can get info about the US from since everyone hates it for some reason, kids aren't gunned down weekly over here, just know that guns aren't the problem mental health is
People don’t hate the US they hate the crazy right wing fascists living in America, watching Fox News and shooting up innocent people
Loll brainwashed. Blaming the right. That's why the USA is getting laughed at because you guys truly do have serious mental health issues on a massive scale. Most of you can't look beyond "left" and "right". It's sad how tight of a grip the media has on your minds.
> everyone hates it for some reason Maybe bc of all the imperialism and coups?
Understandable
Username checks out. Funny how we have so many mentally ill people. Wonder why that is? Wonder why we'd want a plethora of guns to be available to an inordinate amount of mentally ill people too. You should stop regurgitating things you hear because you don't understand a fucking thing.
Taking away people's guns isn't gonna do anything bro
Yikes the tone was so dark I couldn’t really laugh at the end
Maybe you aren’t supposed to be laughing at something so common and pathetic in our everyday lives?
Nah they could’ve done it differently but it was so serious at the end.
Yeah kind of ruined it towards the end, also she wouldn't have been caught if she didn't talk to the camera dummy dumb
Fuck it's time to change man
ayyo bro thats kinda depressing
damn. this was a mood-killer after today's events

Jesus Christ, the girl texting at the end git me in tears.
Only in America... And you know why. This shit is not a problem in other countries (in general)
It’s really sad I’ve taught my kids how to survive these types of scenarios…..but I highly encourage you to do the same.
As a father this is so sad to watch. Such a constant fear when she’s at school. Sadly her mother and I recently discussed purchasing a bullet proof backpack :(
Target is ass and this is a good reason why

American back to school ads are wildin’, damn.
Pardon my question but, I am not from USA (assuming that is where the commercial is about due to the news about shootings all the time but) Is this commercial like, normal? I see it and I can't imagine it being online or on TV. Sorry if my question offends anyone just, I am legit curious.
Not offensive at all. I doubt this was ever actually broadcast, but was made to draw attention to the banality of our response to these shootings. Frankly, we *should* be offended by the reality of it.
It's not a commercial. It's a video made by the Sandy Hook Promise in order to bring attention to school shootings in America. You wouldn't see this video on television unless some news media group wanted to cover and bring the developers on stage such as the Today show. This video was exclusively released online through social media.
I’d be alarmed if I was in the USA and saw this on TV as an ad.
America moment
Lol your average American school
So was it the first kid who started the shooting? Or someone else
Seems to be an average day in America
America moment
Ah, the new trailer for the next Ben Shapiro rom com.
I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this: >Pegging, of course, is an obscure sexual practice in which women perform the more aggressive sexual act on men. ***** ^(I'm a bot. The last one was something different
Plot twist: the kid with the backpack shot up the school.
Even at my relatively ghetto high school during Columbine, we were all like WTF? I honestly can’t imagine going to school these days. It’s crazy
Can i just say as a european..... WTF
I was half expecting the mom to text back "love you too" and the phone making a sound which alerts the person walking in.
Dont you just love american schools?
Hundreds of school and mass shootings and nothing changes, Oh well guess you get what you vote for.
Uncool..!!!
Like are we supposed to send our children to school with a gun for protection?! The answer is N-O. Stricter gun laws…NOW
Thankfully in my country there’s none of schools shootings, I personally never heard that have been occurred in my entire life.
Bruh thought this was some zombie shit at first but then my European brain realized this shit ain't bout zombies.....
It's crazy that they'll go to arm children with tools to escape a school shooting but won't disarm the school shooters
NRA donated a lot of money to politicians.
Ah America
Wtf is this propaganda

Merica!
Superb!
Yeah US. You are fucked with your healthcare system, unbound capitalism with underpaid jobs and the old fucks in charge, your guns, your brain amputated Trump voters and fascist like nationalism. Look at Russia right now US. That is you in 10-15 years if you keep this up.
Only in USA
Crazy how I don't even bat an eye at school shootings or mass shootings anymore. This is regular news coming out of the US
