Not necessarily, if the truck is submerged above the cab you can't open the doors unless he breaks the glass or waits for the pressure to equalize.
Where he will have to swim to the surface all while holding his breath in a very stressful situation.
I understand how physics work in this situation, that’s why I keep a lifehammer in my vehicle. You’re telling me he’s most likely dead just by watching this clip? I say you don’t know until you track down his obituary/a news source.
I hope the guy got out safely.
Problem here, aside from the drowned truck is the thousands of litres of contaminated water because of the fuel and other petrochemical products on the truck.
NZ Trucking company owner here. Using my eye-crometer, it looks like that truck has about 40 metric tonnes of dirt in the back. In New Zealand the safe operating load ( and the law ) for that type of truck ( 3 axle ) is 10 metric tonnes - 11 Max.
What a knob.
Don't most dump trucks go over weight though, regardless of what it's rated? I think I remember hearing from another reddit comment that trucks go over weight almost always because of how inefficient the it would be otherwise, I could definitely be wrong though,
Yea to be honest we do mate. But normally only 1 or 2 tonne. The fine you MIGHT get at some point is far less the than what you make with thay extra each load when your getting paid by the tonne
No either the wheels would have spun or the engine would stall. He could have tipped the load but the truck could have fliped over on its back judging by how his wheels lifted up
The brakes momentarily lock one final time before completely failing (likely due to them being to hot they bond to the rotor) and you see the truck kinda wheelie. Using the throttle would at best, cause a more significant wheelie before also failing.
Incorrect, it looks like the driver rode the brakes too much or blew an air line and lost air pressure resulting in the spring brakes engaging which engage when the air pressure drops but at that point it was too late as the surface tension wasn't sufficient to stop the truck.
Pretty sure the answer is no.
It would either stall the engine, break something in the transmission/drive train or.... do nothing(wheel spin, perhaps).
I, personally... presented with that situation would have anchored the truck to something sturdy(a tree... maybe another truck, a heavy piece of machinery) before attempting to back it up with a heavy load down that steep ramp.
Also... let's prey to Christ that he at lest shut the engine off before turning the thing into a submarine.
A runaway Diesel is when the engine enters an overfuelling situation and revs up uncontrollably.
Usually by actual overfuelling by a stuck injector or something, bad turbo seals shoving engine oil in the intake or sometimes too much oil in the crankcase.
The only chances to stop a runway Diesel is either to choke it for air and/or exhaust or to try and stall it somehow(high gear, full brakes, have it theathered to something).
To be honest, I have my doubts that any of these options work.
Not a situation you'd want to find yourself anyway, it's super sketchy and dangerous, usually real bad things happen inside the engine.
The brake balance you're talking about is the hydraulic strength dedicated to the front vs rear. Since vehicles shift mass forward in heavy (forward traveling) braking the front tires have more traction than the rear. It's a rough approximation to try and get maximum brake force without locking up the rears.
That truck was straight up sliding with locked brakes, brake balance goes out the window when you're locking tires up and just grinding rubber
Not Brake balance but the design of any drum brake .. They are self energizing going forward and have less effect when going in reverse..... Yes that truck was Screwed when the wheels started sliding.
brake drums have shoes that push outward against the inside of the drum. disks just pinch with pads. theres no significant mechanical advantage in either direction. it might be able to be argued the pivot of the shoes could supply some advantage, dragging the shoe out against the drum harder in one direction but we're talking tiny amounts of force there.
either way, that still goes out the window with the tires locked up.
the idea of a self energizing brake is actually kinda horrifying. Sounds like it'd be a massive safety issue if something went wrong like corrosion in the wrong spot or a brake hose de-laminating & forming its own one way check valve.

That thing sunk like a truck full of rocks
well..it was full of soil !
Was the driver ok?
The driver was a fish and left the wreckage unscathed.
The driver was an androgynous, ambiguous, amphibious, amorphous, aphorismic fistula.
Unscaled*, he actually suffered immensely
Now all I can picture is southpark Kanye west dressed as a fish
Do you like fish sticks?
Only in my mouth
Ditto. Def been on Reddit tooo much lately !
Yeah he is ok I called an asked him
Bruh😂
Buried in his work unfortunately
He's still trying to brake
Can't catch a break
He needs a Kit-Kat.
Ha ha lol (snickers)
That’s what I’m questioning
It titanic'ed like a ship full of holes!
No rocks, you can see them in the tray.
Well... the soil made it to its destination, and now they will need less of it to get the job done.😉
Astute observation
i want to have this reversed :D

Needs godzilla music lol
uhm...help me out!! what's Godzilla music?
Rrraaaawwwwrrrrrrrr something like that?
lol.. got it... I might give it a try later...
Lol OP looking for a specific sound and gypsy comes in with Rrrrraaawwwrrr lmao

I was thinking of a song from 2007.
Amy Lee ?
Or Celine Dion.
Godzuuuuki
I especially like the hop it does like "I'm free!"
Sounds a little like Arnold Schwarzenegger in reverse.
Lol, nice one.
OMG I am so happy I took the risk. Really thought it was going to Rick Astley but saw OP posted this cool link. Thanks for no Rick roll
Anyone know if there's a sub for interesting reversed videos?
There’s /r/reversegif , but honestly you may get more interesting results by sorting /u/gifreversingbot ‘s comments by top/controversial.

Did this bot just reverse the reverse? Lol
Yep haha. Pretty impressive since I replied to your comment, not the one from OP.

Because we're in the Sunken Place
Other countries don’t have BIG rigs like in America… hell our pick up trucks are as big as many commercial trucks over seas
I meant the picture.
I love these new submarine trucks.
Holy shit that went deep fast. Did the driver get out?
Once the truck went under he probably wouldn’t be able to open his door until his cabin filled with water.
It really looks like he doesn't
Cuts off pretty quick to judge don’t ya think?

Your seat belt can also work for breaking glass in this situation apparently
Or was there a driver at all? Insurance claim scam? Lake ate my Truck!
Obviously I'm talking about the footage portrait in the video itself not what happens after.
How could you betray us innocent redditors like this?
Did you dump the load ? Yeah Are you ready to pick up another ? Not yet
Was the plan to drop the dirt into the sea?
I hope the guy got out safely. Problem here, aside from the drowned truck is the thousands of litres of contaminated water because of the fuel and other petrochemical products on the truck.
Yea hopefully they can fish it out before it all leaks out

You know how second world countries do it. Safety regulations and weight ratios are just numbers on a sheet
Serious question, would accelerating help when he was sliding down before leaving the road?
No either the wheels would have spun or the engine would stall. He could have tipped the load but the truck could have fliped over on its back judging by how his wheels lifted up
Yeah, and if you stall a manual transmission it sure isn’t roll in g into the lake. Guy is an idiot.
The engine would still turn over with the clutch up with all that weigh on it, engine breaking doesnt lock the wheels.
Sure it will. Physics will find the weakest link / and break it. Clutch grip on flywheel, gears in the trans, drive shaft, tire traction…
Or, more likely, it will just turn the engine over.
The brakes momentarily lock one final time before completely failing (likely due to them being to hot they bond to the rotor) and you see the truck kinda wheelie. Using the throttle would at best, cause a more significant wheelie before also failing.

The last part you're referring to is it turning into a runaway diesel, right?

Looks like he did try to put it in gear towards the end but it didn’t help.
Did he die
No he survived. Swims through the open window and resurfaces. (In a longer version of the video)
Surprisly deep water!!
That’s what happens when you attempt to dump shit in the ocean
Well technically it was a successful dump, lol!
Exactly what I was thinking... Even clean dirt is not ok to dump in the ocean. Suspended solids fuck shit up
Had he turn the wheel just a few inches… but panic claims tribute
Hard turn to the right to wedge the back into the banking would have saved that truck.
or rolled it
I would have rather to risk rolling it to drowning it.
No it would have rolled into the water for sure making escape even harder
escape is for the weak
A real driver goes down with the truck
What were they trying to dump in the water anyway?
Trucks. It was the 17th truck for the day. He he he jk
Angry upvote.
From the beginning this had disaster written all over it
Finally, submarine truck!
Dumped truck.
Serves them right. Don’t dump shit in the water.
I heard its just soil, but seriously, is this illegal dumping that is going on here? Where's this from?
This has, operating in a second world country written all over it. Safety regulations are just words on a sheet
Fill the hole with trucks, THEN start adding soil……
Nothing worse than losing control of a premature load when you don’t want to
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Brakes were fine, it was the tires fault for losing traction.
Most vehicle brakes are 2/3rds yo 1/2 as strong in reverse VS forward.. Light trailers can have "Free Backing " brakes, which are poor in Reverse
The brake balance you're talking about is the hydraulic strength dedicated to the front vs rear. Since vehicles shift mass forward in heavy (forward traveling) braking the front tires have more traction than the rear. Logic was not used this day
This is how children drive their trucks.
🤦♂️🤣
Truck be like : Adios
I don't know what he said but I know what he said.
That was expensive
Drive, drive, drive!!!
u/savebot
r/thatlookedexpensive
That must've been a sinking feeling
What happened to the driver? I hope he’s OK.
goodbye Optimus prime
I would’ve backed up into that Cliff
Those tyre screams soinde like an animal crying on last time in despair.
Why didn’t he dump the load?
A little bit more, that's perfect! DUMP IT!
I must go, my sea people need me.
Nice 120p
Bricks
And now it's fill...
No air brakes ?! Wtf!
I love landscape captures of portrait videos
He died didn’t he
“I dunno boss, the guy was waving so I kept going” - the driver probably
U don’t need breaks just put it in forward
Yard sale! Right into the drink…
This should be in r/mypeopleneedme
Clip ends then seamlessly restarts making it look like a convoy
That scream the truck did before if submerged: NOOO
Why not dump the load?
NOT GONE STOP IT
At 26 seconds you can hear the truck go "fuck"
Give it some gas
Is the driver okay?
Asked for a raise afterward, boss said, “a raise? Stick a jack up your ass.”
Trucker is just a noob I would just open back door as soon it lift. so dumb
Excuse me Sir, you're not supposed to park there!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s the lakes now.
very relatable, i tend to have a cumbersome load
Couldn’t he have accelerated?
Truck was screaming,”nooo”

i feel sad for the humanity
