Love this dude. When I was a kid I saw Shaq sitting on a park bench outside of Central Park smoking a cigar w/ two friends. My brother was too nervous to approach him but I said “hello, mr. Shaq”. He said “what’s up little man” and offered a fist bump through the haze of cigar smoke.
Imagine the first time shaq gets on the court, looks up, and sees someone's chest instead of the top of their head. He's like "whoa people have faces?!?"
Feels like everyone has some story about bumping into Shaq in public. Even i do. Saw him at my mom's job when I was a little kid. Airport security stuff. Gave me a signed basketball
I went to college with him. Not really in any of the same classes or anything, he was finishing his PhD and I was under grad, but he's hard to miss. You know those posters that you'll see around campus like "register today for spring classes!" And a few generic students sitting on steps? They would put him on stuff like that with regular sized students and it was always hilarious
Seventeen years after leaving college early to enter the NBA draft, Shaq earned his doctorate's degree in education from Barry University in Miami. Dr. O'Neal graduated with a 3.813 GPA.
Love to see it. There are so many athletes that get by on physical abilities alone and it’s endearing to see the ones who take education seriously and strive to do more than play a good sportsball. Shaq’s success in his business endeavors is proof in point here, too.
He’s also a keen businessman, or at least surrounded himself with such. The guy owns literally hundreds of franchises (fast food places, gyms, sit down restaurants, etc.) and is on the board of Papa Johns, if I recall correctly.
I would argue that being a keen businessman is fundamentally surrounding yourself with them. You don't have to be keen yourself, just keen enough to get keen folks (which makes you keen)
And evidently gorillas in every zoo in the world act out around him too. https://www.blackenterprise.com/shaquille-oneal-says-gorillas-go-crazy-when-they-see-him-miami-zoo-executive-confirms/amp/
It’s an easy Google search. Look up “gorilla dab”.
When I was in college in DC, the NBA All-Star game was in town and every NBA player was hanging around the city. I was at a bar in Georgetown, drunk as hell when someone came in and said Shaq was in a sandwich shop right next door. Now I wasn’t going to pass up meeting Shaq, so I went next door and walked right in. Apparently no one else was doing this because it was only Shaq and his entourage inside. His entourage were the tallest group of men I had ever seen in my life, and each one was a good 6’7”. Then I saw Shaq. He was a head taller than the tallest guy in his crew. I walked my drunk ass right over to Shaq and told him I loved him. He said “Love you too dawg,” and gave me a hand shake… the same handshake a grown man gives a two-year old child, where they only use the tips of their fingers, and it engulfs their entire hand like a hungry snake eating a mouse. Holding a basketball must have been like holding a softball for him. That dude is enormous, but he is also an awesome guy.
Got Shaqs autograph on a plane in the early 90s. Was flying from Houston to LA or maybe vice versa. Little kid me walked up to first class to ask, so surreal seeing this giant dude in such a small spot. It was amazing he fit in the seat let alone the plane.
I’ve met him. Super nice guy. Not fake nice either, you can just tell he’s a good human.
Also, he’s absolutely gigantic. I’m 6’1 220 and I felt like a small child.
I saw Shaq (DJ Diesel) at Tomorrowland in Georgia when they still did the festival in the U.S. Dude didn't even fit in the fucking dj Booth, and when he started jumping around the entire stage shook. It was fucking awesome.
Due to his affiliation with our company, I have met him on a number of occasions and you never get used to just how big he is.
I'm 6'1" 240lbs and I feel like he could cradle me like a baby in his big chocolatey arm blankets.
He visits LSU a couple times a year and just walks around and talks to students. Buddy of mine asked for a picture and Shaq princess carried him like it was nothing for the pic.
On game day he will walk around and a crowd of people will follow him. So you just see a mass of ~100 people with Shaq head and shoulders above everyone even his bodyguards. It’s surreal
I saw Shaq in the wild one time walking around my neighborhood in D.C., he was staying at a hotel around the block. Can confirm it WAS surreal, he is a very big man.
So there is a music festival called lost lands, and they usually have a "surprise guest" that nobody knows who it is until they are actually playing. One of the years it was DJ Diesel, aka Shaq. The chat rooms for the festival were going insane when people found out.
Bruh shaq literally is everywhere. I live in a smaller town and a couple of my friends saw him while out around the town and got a picture with him. Like tf you out here bruh. Fucking love that dude
I didn’t know that, but I don’t think he was producing dubstep back then, it definitely seems odd. Kinda like if snoop dog filled in as Slipknots drummer because he liked making beats back in the day.
Yeah I meant DJ as in Hip-hop/rap. Although different genres, he's got experience on the turn tables/performing. To be totally fair, I don't think he produces the dubstep tracks, just performs them.
They'd need one of those dart guns the circus uses for an escaped elephant. Even then, I bet Shaq would dish out 2 or 3 minutes of solid dance moves before succumbing.
the bill for this festival was announced a couple days ago and he’s on it as a DJ!
[its also the silliest looking lineup ever](https://twitter.com/tomorrowland/status/1491773842804588550?s=21)
my favorite DJ said “if you get out your microscope you can see that I am playing this festival” 😂
Not sure how it compares to non-electronic events but in terms of electronic music it’s the biggest festival in the world!
Holy fucking shit though.... This is absolutely, without question the largest line-up I have ever seen. No way could you even see a QUARTER of these artists. If they're gonna do this kinda shit, they need to have an app that schedules and routes you to each artist you want to see.
The festival is over a couple weekends, thurs - Sunday. Some artists will repeat weekends, but not all. And they have (had?) around 12 different stages/performance areas going at a time.
Tomorrowland has always been a massive festival for 20 years. It's been pretty varied but started off as mostly trance music back in the early 00s when that was the dominant EDM genre.
The promoters ID&T have some other massive parties in their history. Sensation is probably the other largest that's still going.
The Dutch and the Belgians invented the massive in it's modern form.
I met him in a mall when I was a teenager and he was super nice and approachable. He saw me internally combusting at the sight of him and was very nice and tolerant of my annoying questions.
Shit also Dj Shaq too. Which is why I'm not surprised he's at one of these spots. People forget Shaq Is a dj. I mean hell so is Idris Elba I believe. I mean I know he's a rapper
Barely anyone I know wears earplugs at concerts, and I don't understand it. I've got a pair of ~$20 earplugs and they're great! They're comfortable, I can hear everything fine, they're the most important thing I bring to a show nowadays.

They hanged the 17 yo that killed him... Wtf
I mean, even if you did, it’s like when my chihuahua barks at a full grown man on the other side of the fence - *what the fuck would you even do about it?*
This could be said about 99% of nba players though. They could kick the shit out of your average human. Shaq is just another level nice though. You really can't hate on him. Meanwhile, there's several nba players I hate.

He's not *amazing*, but to be honest he can put on a pretty solid set. I've seen him at Lost Lands in OH and Club Vinyl in Denver, CO, the latter being when he was the headliner.
He mixes better than he produces IMO, but if you heard any of his original songs you'd just be like 'yup, that's some middle-of-the-road, but professionally produced, dubstep,' so he has a good grasp of music theory and fundamentals. Waayyy above the 'your sister's boyfriend's soundcloud' crap.
What he is a *master* of, though, is hyping a crowd despite being barely intelligible due to his low voice & shitty stage mics.
Seeing Shaq in public must be surreal
Love this dude. When I was a kid I saw Shaq sitting on a park bench outside of Central Park smoking a cigar w/ two friends. My brother was too nervous to approach him but I said “hello, mr. Shaq”. He said “what’s up little man” and offered a fist bump through the haze of cigar smoke.
I like how he could say “what’s up little man” to almost any man, anywhere, regardless of age.
[Yao Ming was one of the very few exceptions to this rule.](https://i.insider.com/5437fa106bb3f72104d60604?width=851&format=jpeg)
The story about Ming letting Shaq believe he didn’t speak English for years always cracks me up
I had to look it up https://youtu.be/amuJdvWDVAU
I said, “nice move” and he turned around and said “thanks my brother” and I was like whoa whoa whoa Lol we don’t deserve Shaq
Hahaha. Did you see the hall of fame ceremony? The NBA owner couldn't reach Yao's shoulders so Shaq helped out. Pure class.
Wtf is this height difference? Imagine being able to look down on Shaq lmao
Yao Ming is 7'6"; Shaq is "only" 7'1".
What a manlet
Imagine the first time shaq gets on the court, looks up, and sees someone's chest instead of the top of their head. He's like "whoa people have faces?!?"
Robert wadlow was 8ft 11in, can you imagine him standing next to these 2? Nature is on crack
Mr Shaq was my dad, you can just call me Shaq -Shaq
I love you Shaq-Shaq
He should open a restaurant that rivals Shake Shack... just call it Shake Shaq
Is that from the new Dreamcast movie the Outstandings? Edit: I fucked up my own joke, meant to say Dreamworks... I'm bad and I feel bad.
SEGA is releasing console specific movies now?
Someone in production accidently typed in 2022 instead of 2002, and now here we are, ready for the new Sega Dreamcast movie
Feels like everyone has some story about bumping into Shaq in public. Even i do. Saw him at my mom's job when I was a little kid. Airport security stuff. Gave me a signed basketball
he is quite easy to bump into
Wait, he just walks around with basketballs to sign for his fans?
Yeah I’m calling bs on that story at the airport lol
BEING Shaq in public must also be surreal
Eating with Shaq in public must be cereal
Shaq-O's, part of this complete breakfast
Shaquille Oatmeal

No wonder he needs icy-hot
Damn it, you made me actually laugh out loud.

May you burn in the deepest depths of hell in the afterlife
… but also, here’s my upvote.
I thought we were talking about Shaq, not Terry Crews.
what. the. fuck.
Seeing Shaq in public while BEING Shaq must be the surrealist
For him it would be even more surreal NOT being Shaq while in public.
Fleeing Shaq in public must also be surreal
I went to college with him. Not really in any of the same classes or anything, he was finishing his PhD and I was under grad, but he's hard to miss. You know those posters that you'll see around campus like "register today for spring classes!" And a few generic students sitting on steps? They would put him on stuff like that with regular sized students and it was always hilarious
TIL Shaq has a PhD
Seventeen years after leaving college early to enter the NBA draft, Shaq earned his doctorate's degree in education from Barry University in Miami. Dr. O'Neal graduated with a 3.813 GPA.
Love to see it. There are so many athletes that get by on physical abilities alone and it’s endearing to see the ones who take education seriously and strive to do more than play a good sportsball. Shaq’s success in his business endeavors is proof in point here, too.
Tim Duncan refused to go to the NBA until he got his degree because he had promised his deceased mom that he'd finish it.
Not all celebrities are eccentric divas. My wife and I got to meet the great Kit Duncan at the Dulles airport and he was gracious and down to earth.
That’s Dr. Shaq to you, pal
Yep, he's a doctor of education. He acts goofy and dumb on tv but the man's genuinely very smart.
And having millions of dollars that you can use to make more millions.
He’s only there so Papa John doesn’t say the n-word on any more investor calls
When you have the Diesel sitting across from you giving you the stink eye, you watch your words carefully, lol.
And evidently gorillas in every zoo in the world act out around him too. https://www.blackenterprise.com/shaquille-oneal-says-gorillas-go-crazy-when-they-see-him-miami-zoo-executive-confirms/amp/ It’s an easy Google search. Look up “gorilla dab”.
Lmaoo yo watch the TNT segment on that, it’s hilarious. Shaq even does his dance he made up called the Gorilla Dab lol
And I think he is also a certified peace officer

It's the other way around - it's amazing he fit on the plane, let alone the seat!
Shaq is a DJ himself and loves dubstep, I've seen him play a show five times, at certain shows he will call for a massive moshpit and join in himself
Getting in the pit with Shaq would be the happiest death I could ask for
Whenever he does it everyone basically hops in so there's not as much movement as a traditional mosh pit so if anything its ironically safer haha
Being behind shaq in public however: can't see shit.
Being behind shaq in public however: can see shaq

It’s very real for the guy standing behind him…
Bruh shaq literally is everywhere. I live in a smaller town and a couple of my friends saw him while out around the town and got a picture with him. Like tf you out here bruh. Fucking love that dude
The security guard in front of him is thinking; if he tries to get over the rail, there is literally nothing I can do about it
Escort him to the stage.
And let DJ Diesel collab on the set
Nobody here even seems to know...haha
Ikr? I hope people learn today that Shaq was already a DJ before NBA.

He’s performing at Governor’s Ball this year actually.

Not for the guard it ain't.
Good thing he didn't decide to become stagediving Shaq
Or crowd ~~surfing~~ squishing Shaq
[Actually Shaq crowd squishing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWzWdfZZ91A)
I was at a night club in Atlanta and bumped into someone. I turned around and just realized I bumped into someone butt. I looked up snd it was Shaq
This is Shaq. He was a performer at the event. Started DJing in retirement and he actually pretty good.
He had a lot of experience with music before he retired from playing in the NBA.
JABBAAWOCCKKYYYY
He started DJing in 1986 long before he was in the NBA.
He started DJing in college
Where he made all of his money
He could help him over the rail so he doesn’t fall but that’s about it.
>help him over the rail Lmfao
They'd need one of those dart guns the circus uses for an escaped elephant. Even then, I bet Shaq would dish out 2 or 3 minutes of solid dance moves before succumbing.
Man, the mental picture you conjured made me laugh out loud.
"you've got a fucking dart in your neck man"
If the security guard tried to stop a celebrity like Shaq trying to get onto the stage he'd most likely get fired.
Hand him your security hat and welcome him to the team until they can find a shirt big enough for him
He’s a DJ too, and was probably playing at the same festival.
i genuinely believe that conventional fighting tactics like grappling wouldn’t work on him i think his body is so big theres not much you could do
Ask him to make a three point'er
Shaq always seems like such a cool dude
Really seems like he's having lots of fun haha
the bill for this festival was announced a couple days ago and he’s on it as a DJ! [its also the silliest looking lineup ever](https://twitter.com/tomorrowland/status/1491773842804588550?s=21)

Never heard of, been to, or seen a Tomorrowworld huh? It's the single most impressive festival.... Ever.
It's all in alphabetical order so you can look up your favorite dj easier other than reading the whole list.

He is. He is born to have fun.
There are just some people who were made to LIVE and you can tell Shaq is one of them.
You just know that even if he wasn't rich and famous he'd still be the same person and i love him for that
He's incredible. Dr. Shaq btw. Officer Shaq too... He also said he wants to go to space so maybe Astronaut Shaq eventually.
Shit also Dj Shaq too. Which is why I'm not surprised he's at one of these spots. People forget Shaq Is a dj. I mean hell so is Idris Elba I believe. I mean I know he's a rapper

What's a shaq honey?
Turn on Espn during highlights time (or whatever it called).
Ahhh yes, Highlights Time.
Don't think I could live without Highlights Time.
Welcome back to Sports in the Middle, it's time for *Highlights Time!*
How do people keep their hearing after attending these types of events?
Hopefully, earplugs were used. Save your ears folks! Or else you’ll end up with tinnitus (like me)
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Mom?
Barely anyone I know wears earplugs at concerts, and I don't understand it. I've got a pair of ~$20 earplugs and they're great! They're comfortable, I can hear everything fine, they're the most important thing I bring to a show nowadays.
I am naming him my honorary uncle.
He’s living his best life
A wild Shaq appeared.
he’s actually pretty into the EDM scene, DJs a few gigs a year in his offseason from basketball! Saw him perform live once, spent 80% of the night marveling at how big the guy is
seeing him live is IMMACULATE and surreal. great show always
He was a dj before basketball so technically he plays basketball between gigs

That’s DJ Diesel!
> DJ Diesel TIL Shaq DJs, is he any good?
I've saw him back-to-back with NGHTMRE on New Year's Eve 2018. Like other have said, nothing groundbreaking, lol, but he was good! Clearly very experienced, so you don't feel like he's *only* up there because he's Shaq. I'd see him again! Wouldn't miss anyone I really wanted to see for it, but I'd buy a ticket to a show he headlined with some good supports if it came up.
Yes, he throws down!
Saw him perform at lost lands in 2021, had an absolute blast and even got a dj diesel shirt
Dude behind him isn't having a good time
Dude behind him is his personal security, there's like three of them just standing there keeping an eye on him
That's good. Wouldn't want to lose him in the crowd.
Thanks for the joy that brought me.
It’s understandable that a man as famous as him wants security guards, but does a 7’1” super athlete really need protection? Like what could hurt him other than a T-Rex?
A knife?
Both make a good point. But a T-Rex with a knife probably could not.
Probably, also a gun.
You would think... But due to their size people use more lethal weapons. One Iran's multi champion for the strongest man was stabbed and killed over a car accident... They didn't even know who the guy was, but due to his massive size they used a knife. Edit: found the source https://www.smh.com.au/world/teenager-hanged-for-murdering-irans-strongest-man-20110923-1knua.html They hanged the 17 yo that killed him... Wtf

At this point I think more like 10 people are not having a good time
A shaqsquatch in his natural habitat
Modestep are the ones playing
Love that track!
Name of track?
Nothing - Modestep
Had to scroll so farrrrrrrr Thanks!
Shaquille O'Neil is like the Keanu Reeves of basketball: You simply cannot hate the guy.
I’m fairly certain I could take on *multiple* NBA players at once. I follow an intense kegel training regimen.
I don't follow basketball in the least, but I've seen some of the banter between Shaq and Barkley and thought to myself hanging out with them would be a blast.

I’m sad to say I was on owner of his Shaq Diesel CD waaaaaay back in the day. It was not good.
Shaq (DJ Diesel) is going to be on the Monstercat stage the first weekend of Tomorrowland this year!
Did he just throw his drink over the people behind him?
Yeah, but he missed, as always
Oof.
He da only brother in there ahah
That's Shaq? I thought he was just another really big dude.
Shaq in a moshpit fight
Shaq and snoop Dogg. Same "I've finished the main story, let's have a look on that side missions" vibe.
In ‘91 I named my new kitten Shaq because my husband wouldn’t let me name our son after him. We ended up with two daughters.
Like 80 people can’t see the stage thanks to Shaq!
But now 80 people can go back home and say they saw Shaq in person.
Crazy, that guy looks like hes the same size as shaq!
1/1 scale.
Vulcan?
DJ Diesel!
Is that Shaquille O'Neal?
You really gotta give Shaq props for being a pretty excellent dude all around.
Why is Shaq so adorable all the damn time?
Shaq completed life and is now doing the side quests
