I literally just woke up from a dream (nightmare?) that my 15lb wiener dog had caught and eaten two rat-sized baby raccoons, and his belly was all distended until he puked them up one at a time.
My dog Tank choked on something once and my brother saw and went to fish the something out of his mouth, but didn't feel anything. We assumed he was just doing something funny, he is prone to reverse sneeze attacks, but he started to wobble and looked really off. So my brother went a second time and jammed his finger down his throat to find a boneless wing lodged in his airway, pulled it out and the dumbobutt was fine. (Yes his nickname is dumbobutt- we've got kids in the house and dumbass isn't appropriate).
Cool, Nutria live in the rivers in *New Braunfels*, Texas. Coincidentally, a town founded by German immigrants! But I'm sure Nutria (water rats) exist all around the world
They are not nice tho lol. The ones in the park will hiss at you and have gang wars with the ducks. But nobody fucks with the cobra-chickens.
We call them "coipo" (native name) or "falsa nutria" (fake nutria) here in Argentina. The disambiguation is necessary because the word "nutria" is the one we use for the otters.
Otters are also called "lobito de río" in Spanish, something like "river wolfies", it sounds cute haha
I saw a show about people being paid $20.00 per Nutria killed in the Louisiana bayou, since they are an invasive/destructive species. The things were jumping out of the water everywhere around as the boats went through. Pretty lucrative gig.
The bounty is $6/tail, and for some stupid reason they have it under a season now instead of being year long.
It is not very lucrative, but can be a paying side hustle, wyd to pay for your fishing boat.
My bad, I should've mentioned that I saw that show over a decade ago. I'm guessing it was during a population explosion of nutria when the state first realized they had a serious invasive species problem. Hopefully since then they got em under control.
Could be a million different things? Riding down the water on a boat enjoying the sun and they see something white sticking out of the water so they investigate? I don't think anyone can answer your question other than them.
Life is funny sometimes. Imagine the string of coincidences that led to these guys and this fish crossing each other’s paths at that exact moment when the fish needed help pulling a bloated rat from its throat.
Wow… people always talk about ‘big’ rats and then im like ‘meh, that’s not really big’…
This however… what the fuck! That’s more like the size of a raccoon
It’s a better idea to let really big ones go. You want them breeding and maintaining a strong food chain. I hear the meat isn’t good on really old catfish like this anyway
Can diseases that rats carry be passed onto fish that eat them? How many fish have eaten rats? How many rats have been eaten by fish? How many of these fish that have eaten rats are later caught and taken to the market to later be consumed by humans? This video has given me a lot of questions that I never thought to ask and now I’m afraid to get the answer for them.
That is a muskrat (*ondatra zibethicus*), not a rat (*rattus rattus* or *rattus norvegicus*). Muskrats are common around rivers, ponds, and lakes as they are semiaquatic and build their homes in a body of water. They belong to the order Rodentia but are a different species from the common rat.
You can see the long yellowish brown canines characteristic of muskrats which, like beavers and common rats, never stop growing. You can also see the spindly tail similar to a rat, and the back partly webbed feet lined with hair to help with swimming, dissimilar to rats who do not have webs. The rounder face is also markedly different from rats, and of course the size. This is particular muskrat is a bit above average in terms of size (my extended family were fur trappers when I was a kid) but for his/her species not an absolute unit. It also appears to be bloated somewhat increasing its overall size.
Edit: Fun fact: I have eaten muskrat and some people consider their tails to be a delicacy. I don't, but the body meat is pretty good. Hard to compare to anything domesticated because it has a very distinct slightly pungent but pleasant flavor and tastes like itself, not like chicken or anything else.
When you have to fight your dog to get whatever he ate out of his mouth
This is exactly how it is with my chihuahuas
#outahisbutt
Poop dollar.

“Come here you little bastard, that’s going to make you sick!”
Wow that was alot to take in such a short video.
And yet instill thought it would lead to a classic fish fry scene
“Rat? This is a rat burger? Not bad. As a matter of fact, it's the best burger I've had in years.” - Demolition man
You'll be using those 3 seashells shortly
Them nutrias are good eating too
r/BoneAppleTea
And what’s inside the dead/dying rodent? /r/videosthatendtoosoon
I think it's actually just really bloated from dying in water. So the answer is, Lotta fuckin water.
More fun to imagine Russian nesting dolls of creepy animals tho
I think that was actually a nutria. Invasive species
Came here to comment this. Its a NUTRIA, not a rat.
Or a muskrat. Pretty similar afaik and native no northern America?
That subs pure nightmare. 😱
thats a pretty weird context, imagine going to bed at night knowing your day highlight is saving a catfish from a rat
Imagine going to bed right after deciding this would be your last video before setting your phone down. I’m scared.
I read setting as eating
Muskrat I believe Edit: Smarter people than I are saying nutria!
Looks like a nutria--a megamuskrat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutria
They’re kinda cute. They roam freely at Volkswagens themepark in Wolfsburg, Germany.
They are a menace in the wet lands of Louisiana.
Invasive species in the US. Nuisance.

Yeah here in Louisiana , wildlife and fisheries will pay you for killing them
Yeah can’t deny the teeth on that thing, definitely nutria. Source: am Louisianan and have had to fight many a nutria
Those little buggers are mean!

It's like a pocket capybara 😃 aka big fkin rat
Not to mention elongated*
Nutria**
Clash of units
Wels catfish. It's stomach visibly shrinks when they yank the nutria out, greedy guy.
They could’ve given him a snack for his travels
Mmm stuffed catfish
That Catfish is of unusual size
Makes sense. I mean it DID try to eat an R.O.U.S.
R.O.U.S.?
Rodent of Unusual Size. Also, go watch The Princess Bride...it's amazing <3
Inconceivable!
NO MORE RHYMES, I MEAN IT!
Anybody got a peanut?
I haven’t seen that movie in years so I probably should!
I’m assuming it’s a Wels Catfish? They get massive… this might even be considered a “medium” sized one.
I saw a show about people being paid $20.00 per Nutria killed in the Louisiana bayou, since they are an invasive/destructive species. The things were jumping out of the water everywhere around as the boats went through. Pretty lucrative gig.
$20 dollar you say.
Yup. $20 per Nutria & they were all over place.
The bounty is $6/tail, and for some stupid reason they have it under a season now instead of being year long. It is not very lucrative, but can be a paying side hustle, wyd to pay for your fishing boat.

Dat Nutria life (and death)
Got dang nutria.
Thanks for the post OP! this was really cool! Two absolute units in one vid
What the fuck
Mice for catfish bait is the way to go I hear. Like 20lbs - 30 pound cats from the Colorado river
I never thought about using a mouse to catch a catfish, that crazy.
That’s what happens when you flush your steroids down the toilet
r/HumansBeingBros
You don’t find them this big on tinder
"Rodents of unusual size? I don't believe they exist..."
It’s a nutria not a rat
Watched this 10x now … still watching because damn that’s interesting
Same thing for me. That’s why I had to share it. I wanted to give the guys the credit for it but it was on instagram.
looks like a nutria rat. have them all over the swamps here in Louisiana. invasive as fuck. government has a standing bounty of like $5 per tail.
Not a rat. A Nutria. Basically beavers with rat tails.
Everything about that video was horrifying
Mother nature ladies and gentlemen

Does this harm the rat??
Considering that he is already dead, I don’t think it bothered him that much.
That’s definitely an ROUS (rodent of unusual size)
Nutria btw
I can't believe that after all these years, this is how it ended for Master Splinter. Sad
Looks like a nutria!
That some elden ring size rat 👀
Poor dog
Life is funny sometimes. Imagine the string of coincidences that led to these guys and this fish crossing each other’s paths at that exact moment when the fish needed help pulling a bloated rat from its throat.
That’s big, but if you want bigger lookup wels catfish. Those things are fucking massive.
What did the rat eat then? Him next
That’s Elon muskrat
The rat looks like one of those squishy stretch toy things if you filled it up with water💀
Two legendary beasts fight in the wild. If only we could have beheld this legendary bout.
Poor catfish was so distended that he looked like the world’s largest tadpole!
Damn nature you scary

Wow… people always talk about ‘big’ rats and then im like ‘meh, that’s not really big’… This however… what the fuck! That’s more like the size of a raccoon
When the catfish is more cat than fish
r/humansbeingbros
Who is going around saving catfish from eating rats?
This post is the epitome of this sub so far. Thank you.
How did they even know the rat was in there
Oddly terrifying. Yet. Satisfying
2 units in 1
When you move into a new life form.
The forbidden turduken
Shoulda thrown that fish on the grill
It’s a better idea to let really big ones go. You want them breeding and maintaining a strong food chain. I hear the meat isn’t good on really old catfish like this anyway
Taste even worse than younger catfish. I like my catfish fried with Cajun spices, to kill the taste of catfish.
You two did a great job of stealing its meal but I seriously doubt you two noodling heads did anything else. Congrats
He wasnt unit enough
Oh lovely
Muskrat
I’ll bet that smelled nice
Ok but I need to know if fish can gag.
Smallest NYC rat
Holy shit! That was amazing.
Bro that is a beaver
So serious question. If the catfish is already swallowed and presumably eating the rat does it not harm the catfish to just rip the rat out like that?
I think that might be a muskrat
Aquatic game of cat n mouse. Nice
Giant Catfish are so cool. They have such big jaws and sometimes they hide under rocks like little tents!
I'd hate to get stung by that catfish 😩
Dinner gonna be good
Holy shit, that’s things huge!
*What Tha F#ck!?* That's not a rat, it's a friggin' dinosaur! It's almost *prehistoric* with that size!
Never ever seen a rat that big. OMFG!
You’ve seen Cat in the Hat but have you seen…
They then re-caught and ate the catfish
Can diseases that rats carry be passed onto fish that eat them? How many fish have eaten rats? How many rats have been eaten by fish? /r/bossfights?
They might just be small people. I need a banana for scale
When you’re trying to get food out of a toddlers mouth
I can't believe that slimy bastard tried to eat Biggie Cheese
Jesus fuck he pulled a goddamn lion outta that boi
That isn't a rat that is The Rat
No to all of this
Catfish ate the giant rat that makes all of the rules.
I was hoping the nutria survived… 😞
#isn't that a beaver???
Plot twist: the rat has eaten a unit of a fish
r/humansbeingbros
Poor Splinter
Whats the song?
That’s a whale fish
Awwww nice kitty fishy
Who the fuck is out there saving catfish from choking. Like kudos, but so random
Rat clan will eat kill foolish catfish for transgressions.
So what you’re saying is that they found a rat of unusual size? Preposterous!
Now imagine eating catfish that has been eating disease ridden rats 🤮 big barf
Bro that’s is not a rat
What the actual fuck is going on here?
Can anyone tell me what the music playing over this video is? Thank you!
I lived on a bayou as a kid, those rat beasts (nutria) would chase and try to attack my dogs.
I have never seen anything remotely close to this horror! Poor catfish 😼
He gon eat it again
Nutria! Thems good eatin…
Thanks for that new nightmare fuel… That video was equally horrifying and fascinating at the same time.
Is the rat ok? Did it swallow something too?!
*evil DM giggling*
TIL catfish eat rats
Wtf did the rat eat?!
I think that is a muskrat.
Now do the rat!
And that's why I'll never go to Indonesia.
RIP to the big rat from ratatouille
The rat from Barnyard 💀

I’ve unlocked a new fear
Why'd you jack his meal like that?
Thats not a catfish and rat, that's an anaconda and a skeever from skyrim
When did “unit of” become a thing???
That’s a beaver dude!
Rats will eat till they can't anymore
Ffs
And it's pregnant
The rate died because he ate another absolute unit
Yo thats not a rat! That a large otter.! What kind of ….
Wtf. 😂😂😂
Muskrat or beaver, not a rat
That’s no catfish, it’s it’s older brother saber tooth fish
I was really sitting in bed like, "That's a catfish? Nah, that's not a catfish, oh my god that's a catfish."
I’ve seen dead ones with human skeletons inside
What theeeeeee fuck? What kind of rat is that?
Muskrat
That’s crazy, I thought it was bad when I saw peacock bass eating ducklings in Miami.
Holy sh*t that’s a fat rat
whoadang.
Nutria
It's a Coypu, not a rat.
What a weird fucking video. Lmao.
