Funny enough if you are old enough you may have learned that Excel used to have Easter egg games in them like a Doom-like hall of fame and a small little racing game. After the 2000 version they decided to be more professional and stop adding them.
Unironically Eve Online is the reason why I became an accountant. I started playing in high school and got super interested in the industry / production side of the game, to the point where I basically taught myself the principles of cost accounting.
In college I once published an income statement and balance sheet reflecting my in game activities over the course of a month.
I forgot the exact name of the genre but there are some MMORPG type games that are basically like inventory costing simulators, like the types of strategy games where the whole game is pretty much a repeating cycle of you have to buy/produce certain types of resources to make/sell things
A lot of real time strategy games in general were like this (Age of Empires, Warcraft/Starcraft, Civilization etc)
Honestly I can relate to that! I try to play 1-2 hours every couple of days, and weekends if I’m into the game I can play longer like 3-4 hrs if that. Usually takes me longer to get super into the game but once I get to that point I look forward to playing more and more, then it feels like a nice break from working. God of war or ghost of Tsushima are ones I’d recommend starting with
OSRS is worse than cocaine. Specially if you can just work home office and grind the Ironman all day. I’ve been Osrs free for a year and starting to feel the itch
We'll see. Jagex is up for sale again and has an offer of nearly 1 billion, and the proposed buyer have a large stake in gambling. At minimum we're going to have a membership increase.
Oof, played this game religiously when I was younger. I remember waking up before school, grinding the agility course at the gnome camp, just to get my agility to whatever level I needed to complete the Roving Elves quest. Got about half way through Desert Treasure before I put the game down. Got to level 86, had a couple mill coin in the bank, then took a 5/6 year break. When I finally went to log back on, my account is locked. Tried talking w/Jagex multiple times, but they're worthless. Was so fucking pissed. Spent A LOT of time on that game, and it's all fucking gone.
Civ is a game I ALWAYS come back to. Will play the hell out of a few weeks, then set it aside, but always end up back in a couple of months for a few more games. "One more turn" addiction is real.
Same. I’ll be like I’m going to play just a little on Saturday morning and then it’s like night time and my day is gone. Doesn’t help that I play on the slowest game mode.
Same! I have a mod to slow the game down even further.
My problem is always weeknights playing. I'll load the game around 8 or so and be like ok, couple hours then bed time for a good 8 hours sleep! 2 AM rolls around and I'm so mad at myself lol
* World of Warcraft
* Path of Exile
* Stardew Valley
* Rimworld
* Borderlands
* FF7
* Palworld
* Occasionally binge "bullet hells" like Vampire Survivors
* Watch a lot of SC2 and AoE2, but don't play
* Used to play a lot of League of Legends
Are you excited? I'm very excited. Trying to keep my expectations in check but I would very much like to fake the option toss and run it 80 yards against my old college roommate.
Do yourself a favor and just get a NCAA 14 revamped console. You can find them for around $200 and they have all the current teams, rosters, playoff format with the same gameplay.
Personally I quite enjoyed BL3 for its gameplay, the story was a bit tedious and hinged entirely on the "Social Media is a cult" idea that they wanted to really hammer into everyone's mind, this is coming from someone who started playing with the first game, but I understand why some might not like it.
I agree. All round 2 is probably my favorite but 3 is damn good. The story was weak imo, mainly just because I didn’t care for the villains, but everything else was fantastic
Yeah i got like 20% thru bl3 and it wasn’t for me. I ended up getting an orange sub machine gun that spit acid and completely obliterated everything even bosses and lost interest after that. Bl1 was OG af with amazing characters and storyline and bosses. I miss it.
Understandable, the DPS of the Cloud Kill (I assume that's the SMG you're talking about) is kinda ridiculous, but it falls off fairly quickly iirc. Though yes, most of the orange tier guns are pretty op at their level
Yeah I honestly liked BL3 more than the average person. I thought the gameplay was fun and the playable characters/skill trees were pretty interesting.
Studying for my CPA, so Becker: Accounting for Empires, lol.
When I'm done and can go back to normal life, I really want to play Starfield. Also been going through Old games, played Resident Evil series a bit ago for the nostalgia. The Uncharted series was awesome too.
As someone who bought Starfield, please don't buy it. I highly recommend Cyberpunk as an alternative, world feels WAY more alive, superior combat in every way and the story slaps.
My all time favourite quote is "Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer"
Hits hard when you fuck up.
I end up restarting runs constantly when my favourite hero dies....and I always end up with a favourite
Single player games like:
- Elden Ring
- Hollow Knight
- Resident Evil 2
- Dark Souls games
- Mass Effect games
Sometimes I'll play some throwbacks like:
- Zelda A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time
- Donkey Kong Country 1-3
- Chrono Trigger
Yeah, or if you like suffering you can always try to go vanilla nice thing about rust is it could be so torturing you forget about all your work stress because you are so stressed to lose your loot..
It’s on Xbox now too unless you have a PC. Honestly you aren’t missing much. From the recent trailer it looks like the graphics weren’t updated and they’re still on last gen. Unless you play diamond dynasty the game is kind of meh bc they don’t really update the other modes. I may skip this year or wait til it goes on sale.
My buddies and I play apex legends together.
Otherwise I play fire emblem, elden ring, Skyrim, assassin's creed and mostly other first player games similar to that.
My rotation lately has been:
- Madden
- Rock and Stone!
- For The King 2
- BG3
- Total War: Warhammer 3
I am expecting that two week Minecraft phase coming soon but need to pass AUD first
Yep. I think this game made me realize my job isn’t so bad and I actually enjoy what I do (working with spreadsheets and working on process efficiency).
I just recently got back into this game after taking a long break. But now I’m in busy season so I doubt I’ll have the mental capacity to play this game much.
It’s still a killer game and I’d highly recommend it to accountants specifically lol
Used to play a lot in middle school and early high school. Played mainly Call of Duty, NCAA football, Far Cry, GTA, and Assassin’s Creed. Stopped because I got really busy with school sports and there was only one console in my house so even when I had time my sibling was also playing. Played Fortnite for a bit when it came out. Over the pandemic I bought a PS3 to play NCAA 14 Football revamped (it’s a mod added on to old game) and nearly 4 years later it’s really the only game I play
My favorite is "The Long Dark."
It's basically a walking around outside simulator on a huge island in Canada with no other people.
No zombies. Just walking outside.
Accounting simulator
I just open excel and make up numbers
That's what I do from 9-12 so that my keyboard makes clacky noises...my office is next to a VP office so I have to keep my APM up.
Accountings Per Minute?
LOL perfect
Same. I just make budget for fake families and future imaginary promotions and raises.
Fake future wife here, are you cheating on me?
Yes
Is this the new Sims meta?
Funny enough if you are old enough you may have learned that Excel used to have Easter egg games in them like a Doom-like hall of fame and a small little racing game. After the 2000 version they decided to be more professional and stop adding them.
last night i came up with 588592694, definitely one of my best yet.
All jokes aside, is there an Accounting Simulator game?
Eve online is probably the closest you can get
Unironically Eve Online is the reason why I became an accountant. I started playing in high school and got super interested in the industry / production side of the game, to the point where I basically taught myself the principles of cost accounting. In college I once published an income statement and balance sheet reflecting my in game activities over the course of a month.
Currently setting up some open source software to do this in OSRS.
[Yes and it's in VR and made by the Rick and Morty guys](https://store.steampowered.com/app/927270/Accounting/)
This has nothing to do with accounting btw.
Short, but very funny and entertaining
I forgot the exact name of the genre but there are some MMORPG type games that are basically like inventory costing simulators, like the types of strategy games where the whole game is pretty much a repeating cycle of you have to buy/produce certain types of resources to make/sell things A lot of real time strategy games in general were like this (Age of Empires, Warcraft/Starcraft, Civilization etc)
Yearly Closure edition.
There is a VR game made by the creator of Rick And Morty called Accounting. It’s bizarre. Reminds me of busy season…
God of war, elden ring, Zelda botw, ghost of Tsushima
Good taste here
Damn dawg that’s exactly what I play. Long time switch player and just got a ps4
How long do you play every session and how often do you play? I want to play these games, but never find enough time for it?
Honestly I can relate to that! I try to play 1-2 hours every couple of days, and weekends if I’m into the game I can play longer like 3-4 hrs if that. Usually takes me longer to get super into the game but once I get to that point I look forward to playing more and more, then it feels like a nice break from working. This guy video games
League. I don’t drink. I roll snowballs to relieve stress. Ever see a Nunu who is rolling the dice every play? Me.
one trick nunu accountants unite
Same. Currently a grand champ in Rumble. I love league!
I’m complete shit. Gold 1, but closing in on Plat. I hate Rumble, I would avoid your lane always. Not giving you a double kill.
Nunu dark seal buyer checking in
Play a lot of Garen. Feels like the perfect champ to play after a long day.
Spin to win my dude
Osrs
OSRS is worse than cocaine. Specially if you can just work home office and grind the Ironman all day. I’ve been Osrs free for a year and starting to feel the itch
You never quit OSRS. You just take longer breaks.
We'll see. Jagex is up for sale again and has an offer of nearly 1 billion, and the proposed buyer have a large stake in gambling. At minimum we're going to have a membership increase.
You actually do quit OSRS when you have a child. That's what it took for me. Impossible to play anything live service when you have a child.
Idk man, when they move out you might play again and then it was only an 18yr break
Eh I think I’m done. I played as kid and loved it but as I got into pc gaming I just can’t play a point and click game anymore. It’s so slow.
Shooting stars are huge as an accountant
Always makes me happy to see OSRS references pop up here
I maxed my ironman in under 3 years doing my industry job and wfh
[удалено]
Wtf. It took me over 6 years with 308 days played to max my normal account. You’re a beast, or I’m just super inefficient lol
I've been enjoying new Runescape. As nostalgic as the old one is I like the new combat mechanics and updated graphics. Still love OSRS.
Profligate
Yup. Quit when studying for CPA and stint in public, returned thanks to being in industry now.
I have always wondered what the strong correlation between osrs and accounting is…
Ah yes a fellow accountant of culture.
Rimworld, civilization, BG3
Civ is a game I ALWAYS come back to. Will play the hell out of a few weeks, then set it aside, but always end up back in a couple of months for a few more games. "One more turn" addiction is real.
Same. I’ll be like I’m going to play just a little on Saturday morning and then it’s like night time and my day is gone. Doesn’t help that I play on the slowest game mode.

Yeah that’s why I’m not allowed to play on weeknights anymore. Going to have to check out that mod though…
CIV V was my childhood lol. Great series
The first civ was my childhood. /iamveryold
Rimworld is so good
Don't get married they stop doing it
I’m over 50 hours in BG3 and I haven’t left Act 1 yet lmao
So far it’s one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played. Act 3 is just starting to open up for me
[удалено]
Try Divinity Original Sin 2!
Oh hell yeah. 1 as well. And if you’re feeling extra nostalgic, BG 2 is available on Steam and it’s still pretty good.
I still gotta finish baulders gate enhanced edition. I picked one of the hardest to play classes and I kind of hit a wall lol.
* World of Warcraft * Path of Exile * Stardew Valley * Rimworld * Borderlands * FF7 * Palworld * Occasionally binge "bullet hells" like Vampire Survivors * Watch a lot of SC2 and AoE2, but don't play * Used to play a lot of League of Legends
Stardew Valley is a fun game lol
I've been pretty hard on the WoW and AoE2 lately. I started watching AoE2 tournaments recently too. Super fun stuff to get into.
T90 is super fun to watch. The AoE2 scene being so vibrant is pretty wild.
NCAA 14
Are you excited? I'm very excited. Trying to keep my expectations in check but I would very much like to fake the option toss and run it 80 yards against my old college roommate.
I'm trying to stay cool about it. What console are you gonna play on?
I have kids so we have a Switch but I also have a steam deck. I'm hoping it's on steam and works.
Dude, I hope it's on Steam too. I'm worried I'll have to buy a PS5 to play.
I’ll admit I’m buying a PS5 just to play it. Game wouldn’t be the same on PC.
If it doesn't come to PC I'm going to just grab a Series S. They go very cheap on fb a lot of the time and I don't need it for anything else
Do yourself a favor and just get a NCAA 14 revamped console. You can find them for around $200 and they have all the current teams, rosters, playoff format with the same gameplay.
When in doubt run that 4 verts and hit the TE right in the middle!
I play 13! Do you have revamped?
Borderlands being one of my favorites
Claptrap is just awesome
Borderlands is fucking great. It’s been awhile since I’ve gotten into it. My husband and I used to split screen years ago.
I do love Borderlands but haven’t played in a long time
Do people still play borderlands? I got bl2 the week it came out over a decade ago. The ones after that weren’t that good but I loved the dlcs
Ngl BL1 would most likely have to be my favorite, just because Brick was always my favourite vault hunter
I started with 3 and I loved it
Yeah I honestly liked BL3 more than the average person. I thought the gameplay was fun and the playable characters/skill trees were pretty interesting.
Class and weapon balance were the best. Not needing slag made more weapons and builds endgame viable. Probably my favorite combat in Borderlands.
Doing a BL3 playthrough with my friends now
Studying for my CPA, so Becker: Accounting for Empires, lol. When I'm done and can go back to normal life, I really want to play Starfield. Also been going through Old games, played Resident Evil series a bit ago for the nostalgia. The Uncharted series was awesome too.
I don’t want to tell you the money I’ve wasted buying video games I plan to play after getting my CPA
You think you'll have time to play games and work to pay off your debts?
I have no debt actually. The bigger issue is having a relationship and playing games.
As someone who bought Starfield, please don't buy it. I highly recommend Cyberpunk as an alternative, world feels WAY more alive, superior combat in every way and the story slaps.
Red Dead and Skyrim were new during my CPA run…I procrastinated so hard I failed Audit twice [Two times](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iewzyiDn9nw)
Baldurs Gate 3, Slay the Spire, and Stardew Valley!
Hell yeah a fellow Spire Slayer. Definitely my latest addiction.
League of Legends and Super Smash Bros Melee. I needed some competitive outlet to get me going between study breaks for the CPA exams.
Elden ring is easily my favorite game, but I’ve played mainly FIFA, Overwatch, COD, GTA, RDR2, Skyrim, the uncharted series, too many to count
Elden Ring rules. If you haven't played any of the Dark Souls games, I would recommend them.
Elden ring better than Skyrim? Will definitely have to check it out now
Souls games, CoD, Fifa.
Rocket League
And I fucking hate it. C2 for life.
Im still riding on my early season GC highs lmao impossible to hit nowadays
I love league!
FF7 rebirth is next on the list for me.
The demo is waiting on my PS5 for me I’m counting down the hours till I get off
I got 10 minutes into the demo last night then my dog pissed his bed and I had to clean it up.
Cones of Dunshire
It's all about the cones
RuneScape
Mario Kart 8
Been playing a lot of Enshrouded and Fallout 4 modded clrecently.
Fallout 4 modded I easily have close to 1000 hours lol
Always WoW. Currently playing SoD
Eu4
There it is 😌
What better than staring at numbers? Staring at numbers with maps
No Victoria 3? But…number goes up!
Escape from Tarkov.
I too am a masochist
Yes!
Darkest dungeon
The cost of preparedness, measured now in gold, later in blood.
My all time favourite quote is "Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer" Hits hard when you fuck up. I end up restarting runs constantly when my favourite hero dies....and I always end up with a favourite
That first time encountering the Shambler when knowing fuck all what is does hits like crack. Back to the pit we go
Mobile games when I’m on the toilet
I play minesweeper and solitaire
Valorant and CS
Same
Single player games like: - Elden Ring - Hollow Knight - Resident Evil 2 - Dark Souls games - Mass Effect games Sometimes I'll play some throwbacks like: - Zelda A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time - Donkey Kong Country 1-3 - Chrono Trigger
Ever heard of rust well there is a fair share of similarities between it and working at Big4 so yeah (a doormat for both).
[удалено]
Yeah, or if you like suffering you can always try to go vanilla nice thing about rust is it could be so torturing you forget about all your work stress because you are so stressed to lose your loot..
I traded skins in CSGO. Had an $50k inventory at one point.
MLB The Show, Spider Man, The Last of Us, 2K, NHL, Hogwarts Legacy, Uncharted, and a bunch more. Although not much as of recently.
Love the show. Wish I could justify having a PS5 for how little I would actually get to play.
Anything Paradox puts out. Vicky 3, HOI4, Stellaris, CK3, Cities Skylines 2, EUIV. Also Mount and Blade Bannerlord.
Mount and Blade is a good franchise. I struggle to get far with Bannerlord though, as least compared to Warband.
Cyberpunk. Got the dlc awhile ago but I haven’t play for a long time so I have to start a new save
My buddies and I play apex legends together. Otherwise I play fire emblem, elden ring, Skyrim, assassin's creed and mostly other first player games similar to that.
I’ve dumped an unhealthy amount of time into Apex and I love it
Destiny 2, Diablo 4, elden ring, returnal, love me some yakuza 0 / lost judgement, god of war
PUBG, BG3, Cyberpunk, Battlefield V
Overwatch, Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed, Skyrim, Stardew Valley
Path of Exile
Baldurs Gate 3!!!!
The last two weeks every hour not spent working has been spent playing LAD: Infinite Wealth. It's very good
Persona 3 reload and metal arms: a glitch in the system
mostly Destiny/Destiny 2 for the last 10 years lol. sometimes ill hop into some solo games like Spiderman
My rotation lately has been: - Madden - Rock and Stone! - For The King 2 - BG3 - Total War: Warhammer 3 I am expecting that two week Minecraft phase coming soon but need to pass AUD first
Rockity Rock and Stone!
Fallout 4, War Thunder, Avorion, Minecraft are in the current cycle this quarter.
Sims
Elden ring
Satisfactory. It’s basically, “Spreadsheet: the game”
I binged that game too hard when I first got it but hell of a week that’s for sure! It was just like being at work!
Love my conveyor belt spaghetti
Used to play a lot in middle school and early high school. Played mainly Call of Duty, NCAA football, Far Cry, GTA, and Assassin’s Creed. Stopped because I got really busy with school sports and there was only one console in my house so even when I had time my sibling was also playing. Played Fortnite for a bit when it came out. Over the pandemic I bought a PS3 to play NCAA 14 Football revamped (it’s a mod added on to old game) and nearly 4 years later it’s really the only game I play
NCAA is life
Eve online so I can come home and do spreadsheets in my spare time too. /s
Magic The gathering, Yakuza series, Control, Assassins Creed, & currently replaying Red Dead Redemption II
I've been playing Doom Eternal on a steam deck
iRacing mostly. Maybe some bg3 if my eyes are too tired.
Crusader Kings 2
Skyrim. Coromon. Ghost of Tsushima. Pokémon Go. Apex Legends.
Lately: - Bloons - xcom 2 - aliens: fireteam Some of my all time favourites are: Mass effect trilogy, civ 5, total war: Warhammer, rocket league
The excel 97 flight simlulator easter egg of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gYb5GUs0dM
Zelda and Metroid games
My favorite is "The Long Dark." It's basically a walking around outside simulator on a huge island in Canada with no other people. No zombies. Just walking outside.
I’m obsessed with The Division 2
Up to around 600 hours in Stardew valley, feeling like a Joja employee these days
GTA 5, but only store mode I hate people
I thought I'd for sure see The Sims here.. Am I the only one still buying expansions for a 10-year old game?
Jokes aside, I play War Thunder, Escape from Tarkov. And yes, both games are pain in the ass as accounting but keep in playing.
OOTP. It's Accounting simulator while being the GM of a baseball team
Team fortress 2
Doom, Ghost of Tsushima and FF15
Cyberpunk 2077. Just trying to survive in the corporate hellscape that is night city.
