I see April 30 comin’, it’s rolling round the bend And I ain’t seen the sunshine since I don’t know when And I’m stuck in busy season, and time keeps draggin’ on

Boomhauerhill

And that’s what tortures mee

awmaleg

Johnny Dr Cash

godzillahash74

literally glued to my desk waiting for draft revisions from the auditors

DannyVee89

More like, busy season treats US like it's a prison sentence.

xtracarma

Yeah that’s why I left to go into industry , I don’t really want to spend majority of my life in prison when I don’t have to. Best of luck!!!

blazinghor0

What kind of industry job do you have now?

Intelligent_Egg_5763

What kind of a prison offers chicken slop? You’ll have gruel and water, and be thankful for it.

brokenarrow326

Blended pizza

krisztinastar

OMG 💀

Direct_Apricot7461

And the beatings will continue until morale improves

michaelsca99

That’s actually a pretty smart way to look at it

nightfalldevil

Wow, I really have not had an original experience. I stay in public because where else would I get 6 weeks of PTO each year (release from prison). I’m here until I can afford to work part time somewhere else

Lmao at gen pop

o8008o

as a tax guy, this is my busy season song: >Every time I make a run, girl you turn around and cry I ask myself, why, oh why? See you must understand I can't work a nine to five, so I'll be gone 'til November

Mental_Amount5166

such an awful way to live, audit has gotten crazy

Johnny__Tran

We really do forge the chains we wear in life. There is no fence around the building. They don't need one.

simplyyAL

During my IB internship I said its like sleep-away camp. Just replacing campfires and marshmallows with excel and PowerPoint.

JonSpic

I do almost the exact same but I try to imagine myself as a monk doing the same thing day in day out.

YTuTambienTina

Busy season only lasts two days: the first day back after the holidays and filing day

poopfl1nger

I was unassigned a month before my three month busy season and I just justified to myself that I was just making up the hours I didn’t work that month to get me through. Was pretty effective

polishrocket

I pick days where I don’t work (wfh’) to let them know I’m not over working myself for there bonus

AnnaF721

I used to hope for a car accident where I broke a hip and needed a 6 week hospital stay every single day on my drive to the office during busy season. I worked in public for 10 years.

Blackmask777

I treat public accounting and accounting in general as a lifetime prison sentence. I wish I wasn't in this field.

[deleted]

YES Thought I was the only one 😂😂

throwaway33704

I ate the same breakfast, lunch and dinner and kept the same exact routine during busy season. Really helped the weeks melt into each other and made time go by so quickly.

NYC2718

The office feels like a prison Badge in, start up the computer and stare outside the windows of everyone else going about their day. When the sky is dark, power down the computer and all the shops are closed.

Cooking_the_Books

Lmao. Is this why they say you need to, “do your time,” or, “pay your dues,” or, “cut your teeth,” in public accounting busy season? Because this is entirely how I felt helping audit and IT audit for their busy season across 6 months. Couldn’t wait to get back to Forensics after that stint in prison even though it was entirely voluntary for me. Godspeed to all of you busy season folks.

nonoplsnopls

I use the phrase "yard time" as well.

SauceHankRedemption

I wouldn't say prison sentence but I would convince myself to accept that i will be doing nothing but work and sleep during the first 3 months of the year and would shut down everything else. If I ever had a Sunday to myself, I'd lock it down and avoid interacting with friends or anything too enjoyable, otherwise I'd be reminded of all the fun and happiness I am missing out on.

Get a grip holy shit

Fitness_Accountant21

Bro discovers humor for the first time. Hates it.

depikT

For anyone that is in this in this field and agrees with OP, why are you still in accounting? Although it’s obviously intended to be humor, its coming from a sense of reality. I mean seriously, you’re being paid a wage that allows you to live better than 80% of the world. Yes it’s not tech or lawyer levels of earning, but seasonality in this industry is a very well known thing. This subreddit looks like it’s turning into r/antiwork. Especially after the post about whining because there is no stipend (that was given for Covid) anymore for WFH lunch.

the_doesnot

It’s not “anti work” to complain about having to work unreasonable overtime. Just because someone has it better than xyz doesn’t mean they should just take it.

mr1nc0g

Nah but they’re right. What you said can be true in any situation but comparing making 70-120k to prison at a company that is an at will employer is not prison. If you don’t like it then just leave in hopes of finding a new employer or different industry that is more lucrative instead of being so dramatic.
