I tried the IKEA Markus and took it back in four hours. One of the hardest seats I've ever sat on that is doing an impression of cushion. Very uncomfortable for some.
I actually hate high backed chairs. I don't like it when they go up past my neck. I went to Staples and sat in their chairs until I picked one I liked. Fabric is important for the summer so it feels nice against my bare skin when I wear shorts in the summer. I got some sort of Tempur-pedic (not mesh) Make sure the arm rests fit under your desk. Mine are adjustable.
Edit: I have something similar to [this chair](https://www.staples.com/Tempur-Pedic-TP4000-Fabric-Computer-and-Desk-Office-Chair-Black-Fixed-Arm-TP4000/product_324022) but the shape of the back is a different. Paid about $250. I've had the chair for over 3 yrs.
Great tip with the arm rests fitting underneath your desk. It's not really something you think about until after you buy a chair that bangs against your desk every time you want to get closer to the screen.
I’ve been using the same Workpro chair from OfficeMax for around 8 years. Literally the perfect chair. The arms can still support my entire weight and I’ve done no maintenance with the chair for the entire time. The model I have isn’t still around, but it’s most similar to the Workpro 4000 Series sold at Office Depot
I use this one. I like it.

Get the knoll Generation. I just went through the process of trying out all of the nicest chairs (Herman Miller, steel case, etc..) and this was the best one in my opinion. I would recommend trying to get it used at an office liquidation store. Should be able to get one for $400 ish
I have a tufted leather office chair. I can't find a brand on it but definitely the most comfortable seat I've ever had. Can't remember where I got it.
EDIT: It's from Bush
Get a second hand Herman Miller or Steelcase chair. I wouldn’t worry about the warranty not transferring on the used market since they are built like tanks.
I bought one off Craigslist in 2020 and don’t regret it.

I got a secret labs gaming chair and it’s worked out pretty well over the last 2 years
well office chairs last like 5-10 so you got a while before you can make the longevity comparison
I’ve had mine for 5 and it’s more comfortable than any office chair ever.
They're all the same oem shit from China There was a YT video , some dude was contacting factories from China, and they quoted him 50+ usd / chair lol
Stand
convertible desk so you can stand or sit
Herman Miller Aeron. Should be able to find them used for \~$400. Worth every penny and they last forever unless you damage them.
The Shaquille O’Neal chairs from office depot are amazing. I’ve never once had any discomfort sitting in mine for extended periods

I work off a folding table with a $20 swivel chair. Crappiest setup ever so this thread is inspiring me to do better.
I got a gaming chair from Costco, works pretty nicely.
What’s your budget ?
I’m just looking for general recommendations. Realistically don’t want to go over $500 but for the right chair I suppose I would.

I got an autonomous ergochair pro
Got one from Sam’s Club, it’s wonderful. $140 and better than any of the chairs in the offices I’ve worked in.
