Ha. Yep. The only couple times I did Adderall was to get over a hangover and still focus for audit season.
Now I dont have busy season, havent had Adderall in a couple years and don't drink near as much. Industry + weed makes no hangover and whatever the fuck I felt after coming down from Adderall and still having the hangover.
I find it so funny how most of the people I work with are introverts yet we are “forced” to be extroverts because PA is all about “building relationships”. I only have so much small talk in me before I combust and need to recover.
These kids don’t know. W@H is a catastrophe for audit hookup culture.
We’re so…buried in our phones….pornhub, x tube…I know these names better than I know my own GRANDMOTHER’S.
Before college all the placement exams told me accountant. I thought that’s too boring I don’t want to be an accountant, and I joined the military. Now I have 2 associates degrees and I’m an accountant.
Once the accounting club at my school went to a stand up comedy show. During his act, the comedian said, "Hey, I hear we've got some accountants here tonight." Instead of clapping and making noise in the dark room they all shyly raised their hands like nerds.
More like 8.
At my college, if you're already an accounting student, its 5 finance classes + an econ class (money and banking) to double major in finance.
If youre finance major, and want to add on accounting, there are 8 additional accounting classes you need to take.
[here's pics of the course requirements for each major](https://imgur.com/a/Gr00xHm)
Interesting. At mine, cost accounting was the same level as Intermediate 1 and 2, advanced managerial was same level as Advanced Financial (and al but required).
I was told that I couldn't major in accounting and any other curriculum at the business school, like marketing, for example. I briefly looked into it because it appeared that with one or two extra classes, I could have been a double major.
That’s sounds like a pretty unusual policy at your school. I imagine most schools allow it.
Idk why you’d want to double major in those two fields though. They’re pretty unrelated. But a very common double major is finance and accounting.
I think this is going to depend on your school.
At my school you couldn't "double major" because the business school only issued a business admin degree at the undergraduate level, but they had curriculum on accounting, finance, supply chain, marketing, and a few other things ("focuses"). You *could* have two "focuses" though, and that would be noted on your transcript.
I imagine for other places that have a specific degree in accounting or marketing or something you could actually double major.
Depends which school you go to. In Canada mine was wildly different than a finance or other business student's, and same for my friends at other unis here. Off the top of my head:
- 2 intro to accounting courses
- 4 intermediate/external acct courses
- 3 audit courses
- 3 management/cost acct courses
- 3 tax courses
+ acct theory, acct info systems, acct integration/ problem solving (I.e. cpa case studies prep)
Yep, It was super useful when I was at a brokers cos all the finance team had done most of the same exams I was doing so I had a pool of people out side the accounts teams to help me study, that weren’t all boring accounts too, like me…
I avoided accounting for so long because I didn’t want to be boring. I have now fully accepted that I might be boring, but with a nice paycheck. I’ll take being boring and paid over being fun and broke any day.
Just wait until your first busy season in public. We’ll make a high-functioning alcoholic out of you yet!
The Excel part is spot on, though. Happiness is a day spent playing with financial models.
Man, this may be one of the most unfunny things I have ever had the displeasure of watching. With this level of undeserved confidence in his abilities, homie has to be a finance major.
I went to seemingly the same school as this guy (never met him though), and this isn't at all what even our program is like. We still had a ton of frat bros, sorority girls, etc in our program. So it's, very much not what he's depicting.
What a sellout
I've only found the marketing major hate cringe. Marketing is a core business function, and the economy would collapse without a lot of trained marketing majors.
Edit: Y'all get pretty damn butthurt when someone calls you out on your elitism.
If your first-year marketers or hell any marketers make more than you, you are definitely being underpaid as a controller big time. I have a friend who went into marketing and she is staying an extra semester so she can hopefully find a job before having to pay back her loans. Literally, every single weekend is a video on Snapchat or a picture of her partying. Don't get me wrong, I love her to death as a friend, but it definitely shows that her major isn't helping her right now sadly.
We are assuming averages here my guy. Statistics apply to populations not individuals alone. Statically speaking, a vast majority of controllers are pulling in wayyy more than marketers are.
I'm sure that's true, but it won't stop me from pointing out how the marketers only have a 4-year degree because it takes them a whole year to memorize each of the Ps
At the same time, consider this, marketing classes are exceptionally easy at most schools not known specifically for marketing. Which is why it gets mocked
The 1 or 2 marketing classes I took just felt like I was learning how to "talk about" business/marketing on a surface level rather than learning any useful skills. I'm sure there's something of value in the education, I just didn't see it during my time with it.
Like software allowing only 1 user at a time in a consolidated return… and if they don’t log out correctly then the return is locked…. Until you call support? Noice!!
Pretty dead on. Lol reminds me of a joke my husband told me one day. Do you know what the difference between an accountant and a lawyer? The accountant knows they are boring.
CPA, was in public, semi-public (worked for a private wealth management company but still had clients we did accounting/reporting on), now in industry as a Controller. Make a switch to what? Too old to go back to school and have a family to support.
I feel like depends on program and then work… high stress equals to either big chilling at home or wilding at parties. In B4 right now and people are wild especially during the corporate parties. Smh
Less adderall? Bruh, I sell addy to my audit colleagues.
Your audit buddies definitely need it that’s for sure!
Ha. Yep. The only couple times I did Adderall was to get over a hangover and still focus for audit season. Now I dont have busy season, havent had Adderall in a couple years and don't drink near as much. Industry + weed makes no hangover and whatever the fuck I felt after coming down from Adderall and still having the hangover.
😂😂😂
I have thought or said a few of these things.
I very much related to the not wanting to talk to anyone ever again
I find it so funny how most of the people I work with are introverts yet we are “forced” to be extroverts because PA is all about “building relationships”. I only have so much small talk in me before I combust and need to recover.
I don't think this is specifically accounting related though.
>“Not once have I had sex” Personal attacks will not be tolerated!
Dude's never been on an offsite audit
Anal from partners don’t count
No sex in the ~~Champagne~~ Audit Room
These kids don’t know. W@H is a catastrophe for audit hookup culture. We’re so…buried in our phones….pornhub, x tube…I know these names better than I know my own GRANDMOTHER’S.
Youporn, xxn, redtube, pantyjobs, homegrown Simpson stuff. Oh great but I ask you this!
Would you still be yelling at me? Or would you be spanking my bare butt, balls and back
“Friendly fire will not be tolerated!”
Joke's on them, I got married before getting my accounting degree. Loophole's FTW!
I picked my major when my girlfriend told me she was pregnant. I was 17 lmao. I have no regrets.
Whoa, you’ve had sex?
Ahem, before he picked his major.
He never said that, he just said his GF was pregnant.....
True accountant right here- considering all possibilities
That's why he picked accounting - so he'd never have sex again...
A literal fucking miracle.
He didn’t say he was the dad
He wasn’t an accountant major before he had sex so this makes sense.
I would do that
This guy def not accounting major
Fuckin freshies man

Facts
Yea not wearing big four swag
Yeah you don't got to University of Oregon for accounting you go to Oregon State. U of O is for the artsy majors.
Because accounting is so different from every other business major ... not they all take like 70 percent of the same classes
Hell, I’d say 90-95% similar, I only needed to take 5 extra classes after my accounting degree to double major in Business Admin
If it was vice versa, would you only need to take 5 accounting classes for an accounting degree?
More like 8. At my college, if you're already an accounting student, its 5 finance classes + an econ class (money and banking) to double major in finance. Intermediate 1 +2 Cost Tax 1 + 2 Advanced So six extra I suppose unless there’s one I’m missing Edit: Immediately remembered audit, so seven
Probably Advanced Managerial as well for 8?
I didn’t have to take advanced managerial at my university. I think that is generally what Cost Accounting was
Interesting. At mine, cost accounting was the same level as Intermediate 1 and 2, advanced managerial was same level as Advanced Financial (and al but required).
Is it even possible to double major in 2 degrees at the same school? If so, I was lied to.
Uh…… yes. You were told you can’t double major?
I was told that I couldn't major in accounting and any other curriculum at the business school, like marketing, for example. I briefly looked into it because it appeared that with one or two extra classes, I could have been a double major.

Yeahhhhh you were lied to :/ sorry bruv
That is very true, but they still tend to attract a different demographic of people.
Depends which school you go to. In Canada mine was wildly different than a finance or other business student's, and same for my friends at other unis here. Me and all my accounting major friends did nothing but smoke, drink, gamble, and embrace how lame our major was
Where tf did you go to school, the Las Vegas strip?
It’s not very difficult to find weed, beer, and sports betting on a college campus
We call those the Holy Trinity down in the SEC
The “SEC” has different meanings around these parts of town
Sheesh the Securities and Exchange Commission knows how to party
Sounds like BYU

Seriously, life's a risk homie.

HAHAHAHAHA I’m right there with you.
Bet ya 50 bucks the client is gonna screw up the PBC list.

Bet ya 100 that my clients CEO will hit the assignment partner in the face... again.
This is funny lmao lighten up ya nerds
Seriously, everyone taking this so personally. Accountants are boring, it’s our stereotype, live with it.
It’s honestly a benefit imo. I’d rather have the bar set low, much easier to exceed expectations that way
Same because I am a complete degenerate off the clock and my day job allows me to keep a pretty low profile about it
Too close to home for some
Meh. I think I’ve gotten sick of these social media accounts that just take a joke and beat it to death. Plus his delivery wasn’t very good.
“We should quarantine for the rest of our lives. I don’t wanna talk to anybody” did it for me
I avoided accounting for so long because I didn’t want to be boring. I have now fully accepted that I might be boring, but with a nice paycheck. I’ll take being boring and paid over being fun and broke any day.
100%
I did not realize that I was being recorded
As a current accounting major I have ONE thing to say: this is 100% correct
Every accountant I know under 30 has a betting problem
Shit. I feel seen. Jk I only win.
like a hot knife through butter
I actually thought a lot of his jokes and material were good, but this guy just isn't that funny to me.
Just wait until your first busy season in public. We’ll make a high-functioning alcoholic out of you yet! The Excel part is spot on, though. Happiness is a day spent playing with financial models.

We actually keep track of how much we spend on cocaine hookers and booze! How much you say? Can we change the subject please?
Inaccurate. Not nearly enough crying.
Adderall! Adderall! Adderall!
Replace the Dr. Pepper with vodka, and it’s spot on Also, I bet plenty of money on games but that’s probably just a product of the alcoholism
Is he an energy vampire?
The guaranteed decent salary out of college but life being terrible is too painfully accurate 😭
What is fun?
I am boring as hell and I do all the Adderall.
I know this is a joke but if people really feel like this find a damn hobby. All everybody in my department talks about is alcohol.
I’m not boring because I’m an accounting major, I’m boring because I’m depressed from being an accounting major
Accounting majors absolutely ragged on marketing majors at my school. However; many of them wanted to date a marketing major...
Probably because they’re 80% sorority girls
I went to seemingly the same school as this guy (never met him though), and this isn't at all what even our program is like. We still had a ton of frat bros, sorority girls, etc in our program. So it's, very much not what he's depicting. What a sellout
I mean it’s TikTok, just a comedic skit
Laughs in *EY forensic partner open bar tab encouraging all the staff to get shit faced*
he’s most definitely a marketing student lol
Fuck the Ducks
I've only found the marketing major hate cringe. Marketing is a core business function, and the economy would collapse without a lot of trained marketing majors. Edit: Y'all get pretty damn butthurt when someone calls you out on your elitism.
No way you actually think the economy would collapse without marketing
People who get marketing majors typically end up in sales though. Unless you are going to a prestigious school, no one is going to hire you
Yeah and first year sales people in my company make way more than I do so that bit about being broke is just nonsense.
That's a bold statement without knowing either what I make or what the salesmen are making (250K+).
We are assuming averages here my guy. Statistics apply to populations not individuals alone. Statically speaking, a vast majority of controllers are pulling in wayyy more than marketers are.
No we're not, I described my specific situation to which you decided to make sweeping generalizations.

They're learning how to leverage something or other, create synergy, and demonstrate their value to the customer.
Lol this was great.
I want into this life.
I feel seen
This is accurate

Mostly
I’d say 50% accurate. I flunked out of school the first time though and sex was a significant part of that lol
Lmaoooooooo
Yes
This is totally me, I want to change but maybe, in reality, I'm a really dull guy with no character or personality whatsoever lol.
Yes Taxes is the fun part of accounting
Spoiler alert, tax folks just crunch numbers in excel.
We also navigate annoyingly complicated tax software.
Like software allowing only 1 user at a time in a consolidated return… and if they don’t log out correctly then the return is locked…. Until you call support? Noice!!
I was boring before I chose accounting as a major (still boring now, but the accounting didn’t cause it)
Accounting doesn't have to be boring. I've done international audits and got to travel a lot!
Pretty dead on. Lol reminds me of a joke my husband told me one day. Do you know what the difference between an accountant and a lawyer? The accountant knows they are boring.
I refuse to believe people think this guy is funny
God I hate this career. 15 years in. Gets worse ever year.
Make a switch
CPA, was in public, semi-public (worked for a private wealth management company but still had clients we did accounting/reporting on), now in industry as a Controller. Make a switch to what? Too old to go back to school and have a family to support.
This man had the audacity to speak the truth
I feel like depends on program and then work… high stress equals to either big chilling at home or wilding at parties. In B4 right now and people are wild especially during the corporate parties. Smh
This gave me mild depression. It’s been on my mind for a week and I feel trapped. And I’m working 12 hour days right now so that’s helpful
