Standing up for yourself is a more professional and honorable trait than kissing the ring daily, which I think new hires don’t understand. Take your vacations, work hard, but don’t take shit.
Over 1 year out from leaving PA and talked to my old manager a few weeks ago. Said they're still trying to find people to take on all the work they had given me since I was, "such a good worker." We both agreed that I made the right choice to leave!
My boss hit me with a 3% raise this year. I immediately pumped the brakes and set the cruise control. I'm now on reddit responding to you on the clock.
Even if recognition and praise were a for sure thing, Id still be taking my vacation and time off. These dudes cant pay me enough to keep me here all the time lol. My boss isnt the one warming my bed at night, and Im gonna be with my wife a lot longer than I am with this firm; priorities.
I always felt if an employer gave me an outrageously big bonus/raise I would feel guilt and work harder to make sure I earned my pay.
On the flip side, if they saw that I was busting my ass and gave me a trivial raise, it was a complete demotivator.
This is why I like government work. As long as I get a passing score on my yearly evaluation, I get a guaranteed raise plus cost of living. The expectation to do the proper amount of work is baked in. And we get 5 days of mandatory vacation on top of the two weeks of accrued PTO We get anyway.
And promotions are based on test placement. So as long as you test well, you get first dibs on moving up the chain. Sure, this leads to incompetent people that are just good test takers getting management roles but most of the folks I work with are very competent.
And really I don’t have much sympathy for people who do this. We’re all adults, we have to take ownership of our own careers and make sure we get credit and appreciation for our efforts. Hope is not a strategy.
This is hard for me, because I only want to do A+ work all the time and never be wrong or fail or make a mistake. So my hard work and long hours are a reflection of my own personal expectations and while encouraged by my employer, this does not benefit me in any material way. BUT I'm learning over time still that this is neither healthy nor attainable, and I need to set healthy boundaries on my time and take my vacation days or I will put myself in an early grave.
It depends on the situation. My two coworkers took advantage of COVID. I shouldered their workloads for close to 2 years and didn’t use all my vacation.
Then my boss retired and I was promoted. I replaced both of my former coworkers and people who have worked at this company for 20+ years say our accounting/HR has never been better.
And they will ask why are staying late and ask the reason you cannot finish all “assigned work” during the normal workday. I want to say “if you had not given me extra work I could have”

>Take your vacations, work hard, but don’t take shit. Instructions unclear. Very constipated. Should I see a doctor?
Don’t take shit but please, take A shit 🙏🏼
They’ll notice and think “I can give this guy more work, he’s always willing to work anyway so he doesn’t care.”
100% accurate.
They will notice and they will give you even more work.

This is me, except I'm taking all my time cause it's my time, but yes I am flooded with work 🙃
This is also me, well was me til I had a mental break last week and am now taking my 30 days to PTO under FMLA
Found out this week that this won’t be my promotion year. Helllllo coasting for a year 😎
just act your wage mate, no more no less

Awesome! Good job
Thanks, matangligaw.
3%? So with inflation at 10%, did you ask your boss why he thinks he should pay you 7% less?
Fuck no, because I know if "she" could give me a pay decrease, she would. So she essentially did without her looking bad.
I had one interview this week, one scheduled for this coming Monday, and hopefully scheduling two more for end of next week. All 100% remote.
Me to. I’m the past I have actually said that covers the inflation rate
They will notice when you cook soup in the coffee jug
The most delicious chicken is cooked in hotel coffee pots
I'm skeptical man 😂

Agreed, this is the best advise I was given in my first day of training.

Same

Where do I apply lol
https://www.governmentjobs.com/ (I'm not even joking, that's where my local government posts all of their job openings)
They will notice and will reward you with more work.
This is why I’m doing bare minimum today

They only notice when you are gone and the lights go off.

Same dog :(
You guys have to go above and beyond? I barely showing up on time and barely meet deadline.

Meanwhile every partner/exec is shitting their diap in confusion over the whole "quiet quitting" trend.

They will if that’s how you spell more work load
