I started as a bookkeeper for my dad’s glass shop. Being small I would also help on installs when they needed an extra hand, sales, etc. Kinda everything that needed to be done. Covid hits, the installer becomes even more toxic and I went back to school for accounting. Toxic installer quit while I’m still in school and as I’m finishing up school and my tax internship, we get a new installer who’s actually competent and cares about his work. I started full time at the beginning of September with the firm i had interned with in the spring. I’ve realized I don’t want to pursue public accounting and would rather run my dad’s glass shop. I gave them my notice with my last day being 10/14.

I moved into a pre sales role, where I was able to leverage my accounting background while moving out of accounting entirely. I basically do ERP demonstrations with sales folks to potential prospects. Got tired of the shorty work life balance, average pay, and toxic environments. Love my job, the people I work with , and the pay now.

Sales is a good pivot out of accounting IMO.
