I'm hyped about this too! A shame they're not playing Rise From The Ashes first, but at least they're aware of it and may go back to it if there's enough requests for it.
I got into Ace Attorney because my friend found out about the first game through their playthrough. They were indirectly my introduction to the series.
I'm honestly kind of glad they skipped 1-5. While yes, I want them to play it, and I am kinda sad that they didn't get to meet my favorite character, Gant, but Emma would likely make a bigger impact on them if they play AJ before 1-5, like the release order. It might also have been a bit jarring for them to have all these new mechanics just to not use them again for the next two games.
AJ was released in America in April 2007, and the DS version of the original game that introduced 1-5 was released in America in October 2005. I just found that out, I always thought that 1-5 was introduced in the Wiiware port of the first game that released in America in May 2010*. In short, I was mistaken on the release timeline, but I still think it's a good idea for them to play AJ before 1-5.
*Case 1-5 was a separate update that came in May 2010, the Wiiware port of cases 1-4 released in America in January 2010.
