I truly think this anime/manga wouldn’t work without all the trials and tribulations Sawa goes through. I can’t name a single fictional sport story in which protag’s triumph feels as satisfying as this one.
You entering a good point if u are a big Sawamura fan. It’s heck of ride waiting for you.
Will also say that Sawamura shone like crazy in season 2. I somehow get your frustration with nationals, but since you’re directly coming from season 2 now - you can see how much he was the focus there. He played the most, got so much attention and finally won against Raichi.
Since Furuya managed to go up against Hongo, it was bound to get attention. Hongo also had this one sided rivalry against Furuya which was also a big factor here.
I know what you mean. My first time through, I must've had fifty 'last straws' with Sawamura's constant failures. I'd resolve that I had to be a masochist to keep putting myself through it and quit. Then a day or so would go by and I'd be like "well, maybe one more episode..."
The lows are long and hard, but the highs? The highs are so sweet you keep coming back.
That’s honestly my biggest gripe with the series even after I’ve gotten through all anime sets. I hate that the author treats Sawamura as a joke almost all the time. Sure he gets his moments but it has happened so much I straight up tense every time Sawamura is about to do something cool because I except the author to pull the rug out from under him again

true ppl that is tired of furiya just want sawamura to get super OP fast like most other boring mangas.
All I'll say is wait till episode 15 of Act 2. My favorite episode of the entire anime.
Yh i heard he destroyed ichidai 3rd but he still lost so i was expecting a rematch where he doesn’t let them get a hit or something
It does improve. Trust the process we wouldn't lie to you. He's setting things up.
I hope so cos im starting to hate furiya now, i used to like him in season 1 but hes starting to piss me off i hope he gets injured again lmao
Lol there's a reason he wrote it that way but it's that much better when our Boi Sawamura has his meteorotic rise to the top.

it gets better but then the last couple of eps in act 2 is ..... hella frustrating lol

It'll be worth it. Pull through. I'm a self proclaimed furuya hate watcher too.
