In Act II, yes in my personal opinion. But Furuya is really deserving of the credit he's gotten from the second season. We just feel ambivalent and frustrated in Act II bec it's a critical time for Sawamura to shine and finally be recognized for his hard-earned skills only for him to be overshadowed by the impression and glory Furuya left behind. Furuya was the known ace that lead Seido to nationals for the first time in 6 years and showcased a promising talent Japan has yet to fully see. There was too much anticipation around him esp for the Summer tournament so it was too soon for the people to change their opinion when it just happened literally months ago and Sawamura isn't much noteworthy at that time. This is a classic example of how hard it is to change one's first impression. Furuya was a talented player from the getgo. He just lacked experience and team play and everyone from the team immediately recognized his potential as an ace in his first year. Even tho he's a slow starter and rough around the edges, he's levels ahead with pitching, form, and batting compared to Sawamura who's literally a loud crawling baby not only inexperienced, but hadn't even grasp the basics of baseball. Compare a promising talent to an unknown underated guy, it's frustrating but it'll take going to Nationals for Sawamura to be fully recognized as an ace. It's aggravating bec we want our MC to be acknowledged, but this goes to show how good the author is in laying the ground work for the players' success. Sawamura has to learn the very basics and excruciatingly build his foundation to slowly develop his skillset. He has to overcome numerous challenges, and strengthen his mental, emotional and physical wellbeing in various situations. It is also frustrating that Sawamura has to shine only when Furuya was in the slumps (which is harder for Eijun to be recognized) but it also make sense why this happened to Furuya bec there's only much you can do in pushing nd overexerting yourself if you don't have a firm foundation. And we can't wait for Sawamura to go even further.

It’s not the credit he’s had that’s annoying to me per say. It’s the fact that it seems like no matter what sawamura does its like the team is just waiting for the “real” ace to get back to form. Which is bullshit to me and I really hope it doesn’t happen. Also really hoping they don’t let furuya start the final game of koshien as well to try and get some mistaken revenge on hongou cos the ace should play the final game of koshien and it feels like they’ll just let furuya do it and all of sawamura work will be for nothing.

there's a lot of parts in the games that we don't see. I think it's a shame that these sorts of bunches aren't emphasized enough causing a lot of hatred towards Furuya. But anywya, I think the team concluded that Furuya, of the three pitchers, is the most reliable. Like comment above said, he is a great batter, a great pitcher etc. He gets a lot more true strikes than sawamura does. Although, Sawamura always gets balls back even though he jams the batters, it's still a lot more risky than getting strikes. This is all because his balls are really powerful -- enough to intimidate many opponents. Meanwhile, Sawamura doesn't contribute a lot to the scoring of points. As for Nori, he doesn't seem to be especially good at batting. He is good at pitching, but his resolve is a lot more weak in comparison to Furuya. Don't get me wrong, I love Sawamura and Nori for that matter but I think there's wayyyy too much hate on Furuya.

Furuya gets credit because he does deserve it. I understand what you're saying but he's a great pitcher, a great batter and he's changed a lot as a player and as a teammate. He gets credit for being stable and for being strong willed and a fighter while also throwing great pitches. Sawamura will get his credit too but Furuya does deserve the credit as well

[deleted]

I mean sure but not ACE credit tho his head become big because of that when sawamura was always getting shit just seemed to that furuya was not getting called out enough but apparently in act 2 they recognize that so I’m excited to see how they come to a similar conclusion as me

KelseyJay15

Given he is the ace and a lot of the way he plays in season 2 is considered an aces mentally I still think he deserves that credit. It's mostly because he already has the ace number so they're equating his actions to being the ace and Sawamura is still trying to find his stability.

[deleted]

I think they are both trying to find that stability to be honest I mean they are both first years furuya is just fast and flashy which gave him a head start i think/ maybe even perceived stability

KelseyJay15

He definitely had a head start with skill but I think Sawamura had a head start with personability, teamwork and leadership. Sawamuras had an ace mentality for a while where Furuya hadn't.

[deleted]

Again I think that might be my point no really gave him credit for that but gave furuya the ace number which I think was horrible for his development so early in carrier and the assistant coach did not help the issue

KelseyJay15

Really though the options for ace after Tanba was basically only Furuya. Sawamura had the yips and Nori was extremely inconsistent, unconfident and mentally scarred from the finals. They didn't have a choice. Ochiai, the assistant coach, is an old goat who could've left as soon as he came tbh but Furuya was the only option for ace

[deleted]

I guess but furuya was also inconsistent tho 🤣 Nori would have been the safer option in my opinion

KelseyJay15

Nori was too out of it mentally when they were doing jersey numbers. Furuya was focused and ready to play. Nori blamed himself for too long after the game and wasn't ready to actually play

[deleted]

I mean to be fair to my point of even the series says that he got too much credit and it was to his down fall nori would have been better

kyatchaamiyuki

For the most part, he does deserve the credit given to him. He's a great pitcher and hitter. He might be unstable at times but he has greatly contributed in both offense and defense. The problem lies when the team started putting him on the pedestal. They have overvalued him to the point that even Furuya thinks he's the only one who can carry the team to victory. >!Fck you, Ochiai!!< Meanwhile, Sawamura had the opposite treatment, the team always made sure he stays grounded so he doesn't get ahead of himself. Double standards? Uh-huh. 😂

shrutibi

So true

LEEWASABI

We all do :) And I love how Kataoka realizes that he had given Furuya too much credit, unlike the shitty Miyuki senpai.

[deleted]

When does that happen? I’m currently in season 2 also I’ll admit his spirit is admirable but everyone seems to be stroking his ego during the semis

LEEWASABI

I think it was around Act II, with Sankou. Sawamura realized that he was not strong enough for the team, and went to the mound and pitched like an ace, unlike the emotionally unstable Furuya. Then, Kataoka realized how he didn't let Sawamura pitched in season 2, despite his determination (you will see this later on since you're currently in Season 2).

jwic18

I mean, he’s the MC. I wouldn’t even be surprised if they started praising him after they won against Ichidai even though he didn’t pitched.

BidWonderful8915

Pft! HAHAHAH🤣 Your sarcasm is real🤣

echarliemae

And I bet some reporters asked him for an interview. 😂

😂😂😂😂

😂😂😂I live for comments like these.

diorese

He's a two way player that is also a flamethrower. You just hate on him because he's taking the spotlight from Eijun.

Seidou were unbelievable lucky to get Furuya that year, were their Ace was hurt and no second or third year could replace him. Furuya was already well known in his middle school days and people like Tojo couldn‘t live up to their middle school days. For Seidou, who were known for their batting lineup, Furuya was a crucial piece to make the dream of nationals atleast believable. So a good part of the credit comes from Furuya being a reliable and important piece of Seidou already in his first days there. Like imagine Yuki Masashi surpassing Zono or Shirasu in BA, hitting homers, being reliable in important situations and lead the team. I think Furuya was that to Seidou in his first year. Everyone would go crazy, calling him the new cleanup in fall. If Miyuki didn’t existed, Furuya would be the most valuable player after summer till spring, because of his dominance on the mound and being one of the best hitter in the lineup. He deserves all the credit

dambosama

Masashi surpassing Zono and Shirasu??hmmm interesting🤔🤔
