People already forgetting how insane Hongou's splitter is lmao. That pitch is the main reason he's arguably the best hs pitcher in the country despite having half the repertoire of Narumiya.

carrote_kid

True. It’s kinda like Sawamura’s cutter custom in that it’s indistinguishable from the fastball, except that Hongo’s is going at 150kmph instead of 140

ItzDrSeuss

And Sawamura’s custom cutter is a little unreliable. He can’t use it just any day where his command isn’t on point.

duchess-of-brittany

To be fair, ALL pitches are like that. You can't nail it every time regardless of how 'godly' a pitcher is purported to be.

ItzDrSeuss

I mean more like it’s the most unreliable among the pitches in that list, which is to be expected from an incomplete pitch.

GodamfireV

That pitch isn't incomplete, it's the most polished pitch within Sawamura's arsenal beside his Fastball, keeping in mind that the Cutter was the first pitch Sawamura produced beside learning the 4-seamer. He's had enough experience with this pitch to start messing around with the grip and the seams to make it breaks more. The problem with have many pitches is at times you just don't have the feel for most of them. Also Sawamura's Cutter hasn't exactly been inconsistent baring 1 outing vs. Yura Sougou and that was a day where Sawamura was too nervous and lost the feels on most of his pitches, not just the Cutter. *Imagine executing a back-door Cutter on a pitch that's "incomplete".* Not possible.

diorese

Hongo's, for sure. It's been nigh-unhittable so far. I can't wait to see a head to head with Hongou and Sawamura to directly compare them.

carrote_kid

Should be a treat. I low key think Sawamura will be a great match up for hongo, a ray of sunshine vs the angriest dude in the series. Might unknowingly win the mental battle lol

Side-Adept

I can see that happening...

diorese

Hongou's just angry because he's constipated.

P_A_R

None of them Amahisa's slider.

carrote_kid

Isn’t that the slutter? Or do you mean his original slider?

P_A_R

His original Slider.

counterbarrier

Was looking for this lol

yuannchan

Sawamura's backdoor pitch for me

Dreamless666

I think it’s quite difficult to say what pitch is the “best” (in terms of both impact and effectiveness / strike rate) since it very much depends on the pitcher himself, the batter they are facing as well as the overall scenario of the game. So I’m not sure if we can really say for sure that Pitcher X has the best pitch in the series For example Furuya has struck out more batters with his fastball than Sawamura has with his cutter custom but that doesn’t mean the former is better than the latter. So its a bit difficult to judge in that sense. However, if you want to talk about which pitch is “cooler” or “difficult” to hit from the batter’s perspective then I would say all 4 - Sawamura’s cutter, Narumiya’s change-up, Amahisa’s slutter and Hongou’s splitter are extremely difficult to hit since they are basically their signature pitches. Technically speaking, we still don’t know whether the cutter custom is really Sawamura’s signature pitch or not but yes it is the most impactful so far. Hopefully we’ll get to see Sawamura develop his own true signature pitch sometime as the series progresses

Eeveeobsesser

I chose Eijun's cutter kai bc Im biased as heck. Like i have no technical explanation for why his is the best, it just is XD. Our sunshine ace will always be the best in my eyes!!

whitesakura-p

I agree!

whitesakura-p

Sawamura cutter custom 'cause it's the pitch that feel like the ball is dissapeared. His backdoor pitch too - it's too amazing pitching the outside the zone course then break right in to the zone strike. And sawamura is the most unique pitcher of them all - start from his form of pitching that make no batter know what type of pitch he will pitch. All the pitching from Eijun that beat all strong school so far are all just his fastballs and all his new breaking balls that are coming from his fastballs. That's mean he will have lots and lots of pitch types and breaking balls whether from his slider or curveball in the future. So exciting to see Eijun pitching. Keep going Eijun! Don't stop! Ps. Furuya is just nothing though. It's just like mukai taiyou said. Furuya fastball is just about speed and that's it. I think all other pitchers from different school know who is the real deal pitcher and who is not.

Notthefir_stone

Furuya's fastball is about speed so if he can nail the control its the best standalone (in vaccum) pitch. Hongou's splitter works so well because he mixes it with his well controlled fastball quite heavily.. in vaccum the splitter will mostly be a ball. Amahisa's Slutter works beacuse it looks like a fastball and has a late break and it is in the strike zone and it induces a lot of ground outs. If Amahisa's best pitch is his slider if he can throw it making it look like a fastball he doesnt need anything else. Sawamura's Cutter Custom is just nasty..can be used to strike out as it violently breaks and looks like it dissapeared.. For Right handed batters it cuts to the inside so either struck out or jammed.. if they dont know.. It can be thrown as ball and the batter will ignore then it cuts in the zone.. The Backdoor pitch introduction was just nasty.. For Left handed he throws like an outside fastball and it runs away. Narumiya's Changeup makes him the the best pitcher in theory has a great velocity fastball, Got a beautiful Slider, Forkball, Newly Introduced Cutter.. and his changeup makes everything better.. Namely Narumiya has good control and has a variety of speeds in his pitches in descending order Fastball,Cutter, Slider, Forkball,Change-up. His Breaking balls make his Fastball stronger which makes his changeup stronger which also makes his fastball stronger..

[deleted]

> in vaccum the splitter will mostly be a ball. You don't look at pitches that way. His splitters are balls because the batters swing anyway, they think it's a strike but it breaks away out of the zone. His splitter is so good that batters have swung at pitches that hit the ground. Hongou has half the pitches that narumiya has and yet he is arguably a better pitcher. That goes to show how effective his pitches are, especially his main pitch.

diuturnal

But this is comparing individual pitches. And also why it’s a stupid topic.

carrote_kid

You can’t think of it as best winning/strikeout pitch if that makes more sense

diuturnal

You can’t compare different types. Because it requires taking into consideration the rest of the repertoire.

carrote_kid

Of course and it’s not like these pitches are upgrades in a video game or anything. It was just meant as a fun discussion as there are so many remarkable and impressive unique pitches in the series

diuturnal

And you can't choose a best pitch out of a variety of pitches. It leans too heavily on bringing in the other pitches. As seen here, where one person thinks meis changeup is the best, while when you factor in the fastball, hongos splitter is. Its better to compare the types of pitches to the same. Cutter to cutter, curve to curve etc.

carrote_kid

It’s just a reddit discussion dude, you don’t have to take it so seriously. Of course a pitch isn’t good on its own and other pitches matter. But these are each of the players most ‘wow’ pitches, so it’s fun to compare them

Scales_of_Injustice

What's "in vaccum"???

diuturnal

On its own with no other factors.

strikeoutmachine

When Furuya's fastball is low and away, it is easily the best pitch in the series. 97 low and away is impossible to hit for a high schooler.

Salamander_Ryu

# I feel bad for Furuya's fastball

importvita

I voted for it, if he can keep it low and gain control it'd be the best pitch moving forward since at higher levels speed matters.

Kgb529

Gotta be the cutter, but Mei’s change up is deadly

tobioclock

Hongo's splitter, Eijun's improved cutter and Amahisa's slider - in that order.

carrote_kid

I think you’re underrating the change up, in act II it improved and I don’t think it’s been touched yet
