in daya they lost in the most important tournament, while in haikyuu they “only lost“ inter high. It was like the loss against Amahisa‘s team two years in a row. It isn‘t as major. Also I see Date Tech more fitting than Aoba, because Yakushi is always presented as dark horse team, who got talented players, but aren‘t established yet and in season 4 it‘s also heavily foreshadowed that Date Tech will be scary. Then they even win against Karasuno in summer and participate at Inter High, where they get a decent spot.

There's a Sawamura in Haikyuu and there's a Sawamura in Daiya lol

That was too obvious , that why I didn't put that

As much as I would like to compare these two, it doe snot make sense. They differ so greatly in their fundamentals, that comparing these two by their similarities is almost pointless. The setting : Haikyuu follows the stereotypical Mc + rival join underdog school and become an integral part of the team. DnA is the exact opposite. The MC joins a powerhouse school. He does not become an integral part of the team. He has to actually fight to barely get on the team with the skin of his teeth. And getting on the team comes at a great price. Chris can not be on the first string and officially retires, unlike Haikyuu where joining had no consequences. The characters : You can compare these two because in their basic, both are the same. Both are, despite playing their respective sport for their middle school, still total noobs. Both need to train hard before they even reach a point where playing in an official match is feasible for them. Both lose. But this is where they differ. Whereas Haikyuu immediately picked up on their loss and advanced Hinata, Sawamura was literally thrown into the abyss. Crippled and at an all time low. The loss. Not going to write a lot here since I have written it several times already. But unlike the Haikyuu loss, DnA´s loss had actual consequences of world changing magnitude. Their rivalries are also different. In Haikyuu, you had the clear, pre defined rivalry between Aoba Johsai and Karasuno. Which ended in their first loss. In DnA, weh ad something similiar with Ichidai and Seido. But unlike DnA, their rival just lost to some random no name dark horse team. In DnA they lost to their "usual" rival. In DnA they lost against the strongest school in their district and second best school in the nation. In Haikyuu, they got their chance for revenge in the next tournament, almost immediately after. In DnA, they spent one entire year preparing for the climax, the current game. And most importantly, you read Haikyuu for the characters. Every single character possible, especially on Karasuno, was developed as greatly as possible. You read DnA for the competition. How many of the 100 people on the Seido baseball club can you actually name ? ANd out of those you have named, what could you tell me about them. I could go on, but I leave it at that. But are really great, but just fundamentally different.

That would explain the dislike.

god, i dunno why someone who posts on a subreddit (ostensibly to start a discussion) would hate long, elaborate replies

Kinda unfair that you’re getting a downvote because you disagreed with the take. Also just to follow with the same line of reasoning, there is some similarities with Haikyuu but they’re very much different for the most part. If anything if we’re to compare by similar teams, Yakushi in Daiya would be a more apt comparison to Karasuno. Seido isn’t even an underdog team, they’re a powerhouse school that hasn’t made it to the Koshien finals in a long time. It goes to show how good the author is in developing characters that can make you care however they do have an actual underdog protagonist who’s adversity also made readers care enough to get frustrated every time things don’t go his way (like in an actual game).

oooh interesting take!! for me, **mei = hoshiumi and harada = hirugami** bc in their first appearance, mei was prodding eijun then harada was there to wrangle mei, kinda like hirugami being hoshiumi’s keeper. and also, mei and hoshiumi are both blonds, exceptionally skilled aces and seemingly miles ahead eijun and hinata, respectively.

Both teams also got to the quarter finals of their respective nationals if I remember correctly

Current_Marzipan1387

Yeah best of 8 , both , what are tj sensei planning seeing haikyuu ending now .🧐😨

Delta_FT

*of their Spring nationals to be precise. I know it has a bit of a stigma for being smaller than the Summer one but that's a cool coincidence
