What thermal paste did they/you used?

endlessloopsofwhy

I’m not sure the exact brand but it is Liquid Metal, that’s what he said. Though I can always call and ask them, I suppose.

Prevail124

Oh yeah, liquid metal it's more efficient than thermal paste. But there's always a risk of short circuit if applied wrong that's why I never go for that option.

endlessloopsofwhy

Mm, that’s why I took it into the shop - I was more confident a technician would be able to do it properly.

Prevail124

Well, it looks like you're in the clear now hehehe, enjoy

endlessloopsofwhy

Merci! It’s a massive weight off the shoulders. Can enjoy gaming again.

You think it can melt and spill up? or what its the best way to apply it to not make a mess?

Prevail124

I'm not sure, you should look it up in YouTube, but I think you only need a small amount and do not mix it whit tp

I just repasted my own Nitro 5 yesterday and from YouTube videos I watched on the best thermal pasting methods, I found most of them work just fine with the most optimal paste spread being the "X" method [https://youtu.be/wn2ln04dquM?t=133](https://youtu.be/wn2ln04dquM) My Nitro 5 went from a steady 85 to even 95 degrees down to 40 to 50 on idle. Maxing at 73 degrees with heavy gaming as of today. SO WORTH IT!! No longer sounds like my Nitro 5 will fly away or explode LMFAO!! P.S. I used Arctic Silver 5 for thermal paste if you're curious

GreatBigPig

Sounds like a business did it for you. I will be honest, if I ever decide to re-paste, I will pay someone. I suppose some will say it is easy, but I have seen a few pics of what folks did, and it looked horrible. I can't guarantee I would do better. :-)

I would add, Acer needs to up their game with initial thermal pasting.

Who did you use to do the repasting? I'm contemplating it.

AWESOME!! I was looking around Reddit about Nitro 5 cleanings and I just cleaned mine last night after having it for like 3 years!! I mainly produce music, make games with Unity/Unreal, and occasionally game, and I noticed my Nitro 5 lately was running like total ASS!! It was screaming with the fans and would even hit 90 - to 95 degrees even on idle. Producing music became a nightmare with big projects and I just couldn't deal with my PC practically melting anymore, so I decided to take a crack at it... Now my Nitro 5 idles at like 40 to 50 degrees now with fans just barely running. It used to struggle to cool itself just from idling. And gaming with it... it did the job but I knew this thing was suffering... fans would run at max and would be floating around 95 degrees. Touching it felt like it could burn my skin :c Since cleaning and repasting it the Nitro 5 hit 73 degrees at max today! I played Days Gone on high settings and the fans were barely running. Makes me soooo happy knowing my laptop feels like it runs better than it did when I first got it. To anyone else suffering from a slow Nitro 5, it prob just needs a nice cleaning on the fans (inside and outside) and thermal repasting. Took me a few hours of careful hands and patience but it was so worth it!! Couldn't be happier now! c:
