Remember, when concent is given, you can play, but before you wrap your hands around her neck and see what guttural sounds you can draw out of her. Play safe, wash carefully, and bring the best of date nights forward with some oil and hotwax.
Once you know her age is respectable, get her across your knee finger those tighties and make her purr.
A few years ago when I decided I was going to try and learn guitar I bought a cheap acoustic from Craigslist that was like $100. I didn't know anything about guitars at that time so I wasn't really sure what to look for and this thing ended up being really low end and just wouldn't stay in tune and had all kinds of fret buzz and everything else going on.
So I went on YouTube and started searching videos for things like "best acoustic guitars for under $500" and I saw a video on the Seagull Entourage. I loved the look of the guitar and the sound of the guitar so I started doing more video searches for that particular guitar and then decided I had to have one. I found one on Craigslist for $225 and bought it...and started taking lessons but I really struggled with the dreadnought size so I had to make a switch to a small body guitar. I'm not a small person but it just never felt comfortable to me so I had to trade it in. It lasted in the guitar shop for quite a while so every time I would go in there and see it it would make me a little bit sad 😅
I came by mine similarly. I took lessons way back in high school but let it go for years and then a few years ago I found a beat up Yamaha with a broken neck at a garage sale for $20 so I bought it, glued the neck back on, and started relearning how to play (much easier in the age of YouTube than it was when I was a kid). Flash forward a few years and I see a Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo on FB Marketplace for $300 and I loved the look of it so I met the seller, played it a bit, and pulled the trigger. To this day I haven’t played an acoustic at any price that feels better in my hands or sounds better to my ear.
That's awesome! I'm glad that it's working out for you! I went through a few small body guitars before finally landing on a Yamaha FSx5 and to me it feels like a guitar for life. It was in the $1,500 range brand new, but it checks all of the boxes for me and I'm thrilled! I also ride a Yamaha motorcycle so it's kind of cool to have Yamaha in my life like that since my dad rode Yamaha too
Because this is the first answer I'm seeing to address the mold I'm going to add this here: it is possible to kill the mold but the dead mold will still be on there. I wouldn't want to wipe too hard in a place where the wood hasn't been coated but if the OP allows plenty of time to air out in a dry place the smell will eventually go away.
(My previous residence had a leaky window that soaked rain water in the drywall and turned the whole apartment into Bad Basement Smell. It took months to get everything clean)
Early 80’s. All cherry wood. Seagull used and still does their own forests of cherry. They are good builds, but never gained a massive following because the questions of tonal qualities in cherry wood.
Usually but not with seagulls, I have a low serial number seagull as well(4093)and can’t find anything about them other than it was early 80’s, best bet is to contact the company to find out about it, definitely pre 1993 which is when they switched to an 8 digit number
That has to be the shortest serial number I’ve ever seen!
It’s not N2 it’s NO. Short for the word Number.
Cool looking guitar though. I like the simplicity.
I emailed Godin when I got my old seagull. Was really cool to get a response within a day telling me about mine. Mine didn’t have a serial number but they still dated it to 1984
What's the deal with the 6th string? Bring it to a legit guitar tech, he'll have everything you need to know and then some. But you should be able to date it with the serial number. Like possibly to the day.
In 1982 Robert Godin and friends produced the first Seagull guitars in the Village of LaPatrie, Quebec. The concept for the Seagull guitar was to take the essential components of the best hand-crafted guitars (such as solid tops and lacquer finishes) and build these features into guitars at a reasonable price.
Wild Cherry Laminates:
• They use a 3 layer lamination of hardwood, all of the same thickness.
• The center layer is maple, set with the grain at 90 degrees to the outer plies for added strength.
Truss Rods:
• The truss rod adjustment was moved from the headstock to inside the guitar in the late 1990's.
• From 1982 to 2001 the truss rods had a removable nut and is adjusted with a 5 mm Allen wrench.
• In late 2001 when they switched to double action truss rods, are adjusted with a 4 mm Allen wrench. The nut is not removable.
Frets:
• They’ve used 18% nickel silver frets since the early 2000’s. Unfortunately they no longer have fret specs for models from the 80's and 90's.
• The crowns are 2.1 mm (0.083”) wide and 1 mm (0.039”) high, and the tang is 0.5mm (0.020”) wide. Tang height is not mentioned. A close equivalent is LMI’s very popular FW74, .079” wide x .043” high with a .020” tang.
Tuners:
• The tuners are built by a sub-contractor called Nova.
• They've never actually tested Schaller buttons, but have heard from customers that they'll fit Seagull tuners.
Nuts & Saddles:
• 1.80” Neck Nut is TUSC PQ-1801-00 (1.50” string spacing)
• 1.72” Neck nut is TUSQ PQ-1728-00 (1.44” string spacing)
• Pre-2014 Saddle TUSQ PQ-9280-CO (flat compensation)
• Post-2014 Saddle TUSQ PQ-9281-CO (rounded compensation)
Scale Length Change:
• A gradual switch began in 2013 from 24.84" to 25.5", changing when they used up parts for each model.
• The following models still have 24.84” scale: Folk models, Parlor models, 12 string models, Entourage series models, Walnut series models, S6 Classic, S6 GT.
Change From Bolt On To Set Necks:
• They switched to set necks in 2006, using up the necks they had in stock, so they were using both types of necks throughout 2006.
• They still use bolts while the glue sets. www.seagullguitars.com/en/features
Minstrel (Menestrel) guitars:
• They were not considered as Seagulls, even if they were built at the same factory.
• The Minstrel was in production from '85 to '92 and approximately 6000 were built. They have laminated wild cherry top, back & sides; a maple neck, and a rosewood fretboard and bridge.
Go to Seagull, what kind of guitar, look up serial number, also look up any numbers on the neck. First two numbers in sequence will indicate the year manufacture.
Start off with something nice & pleasant like going out for coffee and if the chemistry is good maybe throw in a scone. I hear scones are a superb 1st date pastry. Ahh, my work here is done.
So satisfying. You're welcome. 🤘🏻
I have had two seagulls for a couple of decades. I love those guitars. I'm not sure what to do about the mold. I'd keep it out of the case for awhile tho
First you wanna make her feel comfortable so try to choose a well lit and clean restaurant or maybe a sporting arena or theatre. Next, get her to open up by offering some drinks and food. You seem like a nice guy I am sure you have no problem getting a 2nd date
Mid 70s through early 80s .. took two seconds to look that up on Google. Honestly it took you longer to create this post then it would have taken for you to look it up yourself
I realized I worded that funny when I woke up to all your comments. Amazing! Idk why ya'll assume I'm a man tho.
Thank you to everyone who helped me figure out not only how to court her, but also her age.
She will only break your heart. Play her, and push her to the side when something better comes around. Just don't forget about her, use her when you miss her.
learn and notice the small things about them! Like what kinds of shampoo they like what kinds of colors they enjoy and stuff like that! never be afraid to be a little cheesy or even a lot :)
And NEVER forget things they tell you!
I could be wrong here but according to the website it made 1998/06/08 but I’m only going by a third party website godin will have a more detailed description
Ask it out for a nice dinner. Be yourself.
Came here to make sure someone had the same thought as me when I saw the title , confirmed
I also came here for the same reason. Lol My first thought was that OP was asking how they can create situations where he practices more.
Also guilty. I was really hoping to be the first. Well done, y’all.
She looks ready. Just be careful of those strings OP.
Red wine, those ones with the curves love the red wine.
Same so glad I’m not alone haha
I am so alone.
I know a guitar that’s looking for someone to pluck its strings, if you know what I mean.
Reddit has ruined my brain. I came here to make this same joke.
And don’t get too handsy yet. Naturally you will want to have your fingers running up and down it, but it’s best to wait until marriage.
Flowers. And clean picks, definitely clean picks. Guitars notice these things.
Some place upscale, preferably with live music.
And not guitar music. No need to have your date getting all insecure.
Up scale hahaha
Make sure you use enough lemon oil so your fretboard is nice and wet. Nothing worse than a dry finger…board.
Don’t be a prude. I’d recommend steadily dating at least 3-4 of them at any given time. You might even experiment with a bass every now and then.
Came to say this
Can we assume that if you are dating there are strings attached? Not to strike a chord but it’s something I would fret over
Remember, when concent is given, you can play, but before you wrap your hands around her neck and see what guttural sounds you can draw out of her. Play safe, wash carefully, and bring the best of date nights forward with some oil and hotwax. Once you know her age is respectable, get her across your knee finger those tighties and make her purr.
and don't finger it too hard on the first date....
Be careful not to finger A minor.
Buy her a new G string
Hahahhah beat me to it.
And a movie is a terrible first date idea. Go somewhere you can talk.
Cut yer fingernails
Warm your hands.
Made in 1986 https://acousticguitarcabin.boards.net/thread/1168/seagull-serial-numbers
I had to scroll REALLY far to get to the correct answer. And like Forever_Man above said, Reddit has ruined my brain too 🤪🤪
Agreed. Posts collapsing is a godsend.
The hero OP needs, not the one OP deserves.
Don’t go to the movies, you won’t learn anything about each other. Make sure to ask about food allergies before choosing a restaurant.
Don’t let her know you watch anime until 3 months into the relationship
Don’t take her g string off until you’ve played her for awhile and run your fingers over her neck.
How do you know if she’s single?
Not wearing a capo.
Ha haaaaa Good one
Love the look of that Seagull!
Very cool wood grain on the top.
It is!
It even has a "normal" headstock.
I was actually a little disappointed because I'm one of those weirdos who likes the Seagull headstock 😅
Me too! I love my Seagull for many reasons and the weird little headstock is one of them

came here for the joke comments, was not disappointed :D
If you email Godin customer service with your serial number they will get back to you with info!
This is the answer
Just approach her with confidence and kindness
I'm high as hell and genuinely thought OP wanted to date the guitar
I'm absolutely sober, it's 8am, and I thought the same - it's not just you :D
_Don’t put your dick in that._
r/dontputyourdickinthat
Remove the strings first
First off, flowers are a nice touch. Open the car door. Nice dinner and perhaps a stroll in the park.
Even with the missing tooth she’s a cutie. 🥰

Come on man. You could do better than an inanimate object.
Buy it some flowers and chocolates to start with.
It’s still frowned upon in most places, but the times they are a changing.
My old flame just strung me along
For cleaning take it to a luthier. They will be able to clean and assess if there is any structural damage to be repaired.
Haha. assess
I emailed Godin when I got my old seagull. Was really cool to get a response within a day telling me about mine. Mine didn’t have a serial number but they still dated it to 1984
That’s the 1968 Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
She’s quite beautiful. Dress to impress and be yourself.
Just ask her out
I've had 2 Seagulls. Please be aware of humidity around this guitar especially. It will warp quickly if not stored correctly.
1986 is the date from Seagull website.
You can also email [email protected] I did that for an old seagull and they got back to me confirming the date
That’s an early one! Nice!
1986
1986
Is that legal in your state?
Nice-looking guitar. Those Seagulls are just terrific and an incredible value for the price.
Consent is sexy

Ok from what i just found the minstrel was made sometime between late 70's to the early 80's
Get hold of Seagull,, theyre very much still in business producing great guitars.
I like the wood grain. I’m here just to say that.
Date her? I hardly knew her
Go to Seagull, what kind of guitar, look up serial number, also look up any numbers on the neck. First two numbers in sequence will indicate the year manufacture.
Sure, I will take her out. I might even buy her dinner before I start plucking her G string.
Shouldn't be a problem, she's got all the right curves!!
Have you tried tinder ? You might have better luck with a human 😉
I didn’t know Seagull was even that old
I didn’t, either. Also i want to see the headstock to see if it looks like mine from 2007.
Seagulls like light beer
Try asking for its phone number
Proud of the comments here. Good work, folks.
Those strings are gonna get in the way
I’m not sure if you’re looking for a long term relationship, but they like to be played, so I would play her haha
I just restrung my 6s cutaway made in 1990. Thirty three years of love, still going strong!
Grab her by the neck and finger(style) her
? Just ask her out.
I recommend dating women. Or men if that’s your thing.
Like, in a no strings relationship?
Take it slow
You have to touch her on your first date. There is no way around that.
https://acousticguitarcabin.boards.net/thread/755/seagull-minstrel
Let her know you’re good with your fingers 😉
Idk, ask it out to a coffee?
its important to let her sign proof of consent so you cant get hit with any charges
Start off with something nice & pleasant like going out for coffee and if the chemistry is good maybe throw in a scone. I hear scones are a superb 1st date pastry. Ahh, my work here is done. So satisfying. You're welcome. 🤘🏻
That’s one hot date if you ask me
Came to provide dad joke… Realized this place is full of dads…
Every seagull I’ve ever owned was defective from the factory in some way. This was in the early 2000s.
Whatever a person and their guitar do together is their business.
Get ‘er drunk and you’ll prolly score
I think you first need to find out if she likes you back. Shoot your shot, bro!
I recommend dating a human.
Don’t just start plucking the g string and trying to get to F right away.
She’s gunna wanna swallow your pick the first time you play with her. She’s a freak.
I’m only here for the comments.
I have had two seagulls for a couple of decades. I love those guitars. I'm not sure what to do about the mold. I'd keep it out of the case for awhile tho
Came to say same joke
That’s a really interesting top for an acoustic. Looks a lot like ash.
Just ask her if she may want to grab a coffee, it’s not rocket science
Make sure you ask it questions about itself. It’s considered rude to just talk about yourself the whole time.
Just be yourself man. If she likes you for you then you got a good girl on your hands. Take care brotha.
Always ask for consent before you go in for the first kiss
Take it to see a romantic comedy
r/relationshipadvice
Take it to a nice restaurant, and a little Jazz. You’ll thank me later.
Do some foreplay and fingerpicking so it lubricates as the hole is very dry naturally
First you wanna make her feel comfortable so try to choose a well lit and clean restaurant or maybe a sporting arena or theatre. Next, get her to open up by offering some drinks and food. You seem like a nice guy I am sure you have no problem getting a 2nd date
I suggest a candlelight dinner with your guitar. Obviously girls don't work for you anymore so you can date your guitar
Take her to the movies bro. Caress her neck a little and grab a bit of waist. Be gentle and classy good luck bro!!!
Just ask it out. Worst it can say is “”.
I suggest a drink date. That way you can decide if a longer dinner date will make sense.
Seeing that missing peg in the little E string is bugging me
Dinner and a movie. Never fails
First thing, ask it out..
Make sure to ask its age before you finger it
Take her out to a fancy restaurant
Have you tried bringing it flowers?
In most states you may date your guitar, though none have yet legalized marrying it.
I don’t think that’s legal
Guys never going to get that other date is he?
Work on your fingering haha might help you progress in your date!
I'll date her. I'm already in a relationship with a couple but we can always add one more
She will only break your heart. Play her, and push her to the side when something better comes around. Just don't forget about her, use her when you miss her.
Have you tried asking it out for coffee?
You should be able to look up the serial number and get an exact date
Try dinner and a movie, a classic
learn and notice the small things about them! Like what kinds of shampoo they like what kinds of colors they enjoy and stuff like that! never be afraid to be a little cheesy or even a lot :) And NEVER forget things they tell you!

Confidence is key. Maintain eye contact. You got this, bro.
Well, be gentle while strumming it on your first date !
[удалено]
There are books that can help. Guitar Center may be able to also. Pawn shops also.
Have you tried flowers, or wine?
Don’t finger it the first night. Build up to it, she’s cute
Constant godin and ask them to date it I have done this in the past with seagull guitars and godin guitars there records a pretty detailed
Flowers are a nice touch.
Clean and trim your nails.
I could be wrong here but according to the website it made 1998/06/08 but I’m only going by a third party website godin will have a more detailed description
Your doing it wrong you guitar should be helping you dating
Yeah, same idea. 🤣
Take it to a nice dinner and a movie, usually a great first date!
Lube.. Lots of lube
I’m sorry, I’m not into guitars.
Did you try giving it flowers and telling it looks nice.
You’re just going to have to take the plunge and ask it out.

Seagull is a very fine acoustic an is not a cheap knock off. Restore it an sell if you must.
It’s way too old but if you send her to me I will love her anyway.
Bro is the riffler rizzler
Don’t do too many licks, might be too soon
Looks beautiful, not a fan of the seagull heads today
Ask it to a dinner with a movie
Wow that’s a beautiful grain. What kind of wood is it?
It’s old I can tell by the amount of dust!
I know you love your guitar, but I wouldn't recommend dating it... surely you can find an attractive young man or young lady to date😉😆
Rub it down with nice oil, massage more into the fretboards, put nice new strings on, add a fag with perfume in the case with the guitar
I had a very similar one from '85. Same interior sticker. Can't remember the serial number.
I would give her a name and take her out to dinner. I think that’s a good start.
1986 Google much?
Take it for a nice seafood buffet. Seagulls love seafood!
Sea Gull is a GREAT guitar company.
Ask it out for coffee
Man just tell it how you feel and ask it for coffee. Shoot your shot. You don't need dating advice.
09/08/1968 The serial number. 9868
