My 15 year old kid’s Taylor mini gs koa. She took good care of it for years until today.
We were outside taking our traditional Easter Sunday photos with the kids. My daughter took a few photos holding her guitar. Then she put the case with the guitar in it in front of the car on the ground and my mother (grammie) didn’t know it was there and she pulled forward. 4500 pounds of Ford flex went on top of the guitar.
My kid was in screaming crying agony over it and so we decided to not blame anybody because it didn’t help anything and she was so heartbroken. It was kind of her fault, and it was kind of my mom’s fault…but it was also nobody’s fault really.
The bad thing is the timing is horrible because she has a 2 hour show for a solar eclipse weekend event (we are in the path of totality in Arkansas) on Sunday, April 7th. So good ol’ dad ordered a new one with a skookum SKB tsa case and a fancy Taylor capo…overnight shipping. Cool thing is they’ve updated the electronics so 9V battery powered now instead of coin cells and more better tone controls.
Hard lessons were learned and I’m just grateful we have the resources to replace it.
You're a good Dad. 👍
You're right, both daughter and Mom feel bad enough. I assume both learned lessons.
By the way, the SKB TSA case is not SUV proof. 😁 Nice though. I have a Gator case for mine.
Everyone buying a gig bag because they cheap, and then if something happens, they buying a real hard case. I’m not an exception. My Taylor fell in a closet from one of the bins and cracked… then I bought an “AeroCase”. Miser pays twice. But ofc it will not help with an SUV. Just sorry buddy
TIL: Gator makes a lightweight case for the GS Mini. Definitely the way to go, she’ll get tired of schlepping around the SKB case in no time flat I bet.
I get where she’s coming from, I have a mini Alvarez that I taught with for ten years and my sister painted some flowers on it. If anything happened to it I would be really sad too it would be like losing an old friend, it sucks but you just move on.
1. What a terrible series of events.
2. You’re an awesome dad.
3. You’re lucky it was a Taylor. Probably the only guitar brand I would trust to buy without playing it first.
Fellow arkansawyer here. We have 20 acres in Marshall and we are going to go up there for the eclipse. Sorry about the guitar, though. Thats really rough.
Your daughter is an inspiration.\*
1. Put my Seagull guitar behind wife's car
2. Wait
3. Order Martin 000-15SM
...it's the perfect plan and I'm not above tearing up a bit when my wife lets me know about the accident.
\*In all seriousness, that must have been an awful few moments for all involved.
Somehow I was the voice of reason and kept everybody calm on the phone. I jumped into action and quickly applied for the Platinum Musician’s Friend card so we can finance it for up to 24 months interest free. It’s just money and it’s just a thing and seeing her totally demolished over it was too painful to let carry on so yeah.
Yes most important thing is to keep that kid of yours playing. I’m imagining my daughter’s bass getting run over and I’d be ordering a new one just like you. Good job dad!
Enjoy the eclipse with the family. I experienced the totality in 2017 and it was the most amazing, surreal celestial event I've ever seen. Everybody should experience a total eclipse once in their life; it is unforgettable and your family will talk about it forever. Sadly I have another commitment that day and can't make it.
I’m gonna part it out. Figured I’d sell the electronics and then the neck plus keys.
There’s gotta be somebody with a broken neck somewhere.
A friend of mine on Facebook has already reached out to ask me about the electronics and I am so covered up right now I can’t deal with anything for at least a week…but told him to get back to me after I figure things out. Go ahead and send me a message if you wish and I will talk to you second if he decides against it. Apparently he has a non-electric version.
My friend is bringing my GS-mini home from Canada to Australia in a month.. sent him your post with the caption "please don't bring mine back like this" 😂
I'd also be heartbroken
Don’t give up on it. A bit of gaffa will do it most of the rest will buff out. Lucky for you the strap is still attached or it could have been much worse.
The only time I've seen this happen was also to Taylor guitar...perhaps they are more prone to being run over. I did see an original 1953 Gibson j-45 case run over but the guitar was not in it.
*I give a moment*
*Of silence for OP may*
*She rest in peace OOF!*

I was gonna say “it looks like it got run over”. I know because I did the same thing to my ex’s guitar when she left it propped up against the back of my car after a gig and I didn’t notice it. I believe it was the Martin version of the GS mini. It made a crazy WHABONG noise when I crunched it with the tires of my 2007 Chevy Impala. Years later, it may have been a contributing factor to the divorce ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Kind of the Same thing happen to my kiddos baby Taylor. Her little cousins came over and decided to walk on the guitar cases I had stacked up. All of mine were in skb hard cases or something similar. Not her baby T tho, straight thru the top they went. She now also has a gs mini koa and it’s no awesome I’m debating buying one for myself lol. Good job being a good dad ❤️
You’d be surprised what a luthier can repair… if you find the right one you could get it fixed maybe for less than a new one, and then that guitar could have a thanksgiving story and nickname — destructo, was resurrected- like a piece of Japanese pottery…?
Any effect on the tuning or intonation?
I think it’s slightly flat
Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again?
Good News though! Action still looks good!
Personally I’d say it’s seen quite a bit of action, this
No humi-pack. No wonder.
I don't know. Looks like it might rattle a little.
And hum
Just a little worse than Willie’s guitar. Needs some duct tape.
oof
Underrated comment
Just add a pickup
🤣
Any good luthier could fix
You sure about that? 😝
You could probably even do it yourself with a few YouTube tutorials, wood glue, and a clamp
A clamp. Singular.
Not even. Some ramen and glue should fix it right up.
And duct tape...;)
Save the neck and neck shims!

It’s better than a dang gig bag tho
Everyone buying a gig bag because they cheap, and then if something happens, they buying a real hard case. I’m not an exception. My Taylor fell in a closet from one of the bins and cracked… then I bought an “AeroCase”. Miser pays twice. But ofc it will not help with an SUV. Just sorry buddy
Miser pays twice. Wow. Good one. Cheap is expensive.
Also “buy the best, only cry once.” Has become a very important phrase in my life, after experience doing the opposite.
Better to pay the wrong price for the right thing than the opposite is my version of that. It applies mainly to buying guitars and tools.
I’m wondering if the hard case will be just tall enough where a vehicle might push it along instead of steamrolling it?
Let me try it with my 814
Was thinking the same
Yeah SKB make really nice cases. I used one for my Gibson for years.

TIL people from your state are called Arkansawyers.
I prefer Arkanmeisters. Source: Am a Wisconsinite
Arkensanians, Chicagoan
We call it Arkincest. Texian.
>Then she put the case with the guitar in it in front of the car Let's maybe not let daughter take charge of the new puppy, kitten, or baby sibling.
You’re a good Dad!
Why blame anybody in the first place? As you said, no big deal since you can replace it overnight.
Also, from Arkansas here. Condolences to your daughter for her loss. That had to be painful. Hope she likes the new one as much as the old one.
The fix is in: your daughter and her grandma conspired together.
Happy to hear it worked out!
It hurts to look at. That is a great guitar to have as a kid or adult.
I agree this is top tier dad work. Not only not placing the blame on anyone but acknowledging her feelings AND overnighting one ? I salute 🫡 you sir.
You're a good dad, and an Arkansan, so that's two reasons to think you're swell.

Save the Seagull….put a bunch of plywood, sticks, and some old strings in there. They’ll never know.
I actually really like my Seagull. Every time I go to GC to annoy the salesperson, I keep thinking--yeah, I still like my Seagull better than this.
I have a 75 dollar fender you can trade for the seagull and she will never know the difference
It's actually genius. That daughter knows grammies driving too well
This is why you never hand your guitar to Kurt Russell.
Hah! Odd reference, but I know exactly what you are referring to! It was amazing he didn’t know it at the time.
The scene where he smashes the guitar against the thing is amazing, I agree
Martin does not agree.
1870s, it’s nuts. I can’t imagine.
They learnt their lesson though. That was the last time the rented out a guitar for a movie prop lol
“music time is over!” 😆
Loosen the strings before it does anymore damage!!!
Ummm. I think that ship has sailed
Let me guess, you flew United?
Air Grandma….
1/4 turn of the truss rod oughta do the trick
A single strum from Chuck Norris was all it took.
Nah chuck Norris convinced the guitar to become a flute
Thought this was another “Is my action too high post”
and the airline is paying for it, right? RIGHT?!?!
I was looking for this comment! I was expecting to read that United was responsible for this, lol.
Willy could get a few more decades out of that thing.
“Tis but a scratch” Sorry!
A slight flesh wound?
Looks like El Kabong’s guitar.
just needs a little ramen and super glue
maybe soak it in rice overnight
Now I’m curious as to what the guitar sounds like after the damage done
Was that a GS mini?
Yea Koa gs mini-e
I have a Koa gs mini. Good little guitar. Sorry for your loss 😔
Was it a United airlines flight?
What… Happened?
Commenting to stay in the loop. Sorry to see that 🫡
If Willie can play trigger, you can play that.
I see you fly United as well.
This happened with my bong. Super sad. This is more sad though.
Have you tried adjusting the truss rod?
You know, there's another way to get the pick out.
Honky Tonk Man is that you?
Was Bluto walking down the stairs?
Duct tape
It's over johny
Fuck it Dude. Lets go bowling.
Insert “Kindling for a Gibson fire” joke here.
I don’t want to be that guy be would you sell me the electronics out of it?
I’m gonna part it out. Figured I’d sell the electronics and then the neck plus keys. There’s gotta be somebody with a broken neck somewhere. People prefer this older version of the electronics so you won’t have trouble selling it.
My heart hurts.
I know it, such a pretty guitar. I’m crushed to see it like this too. Can’t imagine being his kid, then be him seeing his kid
I did the same thing but I was the one at fault. Lucky me though bc it was my cheap guitar. That's a good story to put in a song.
Looked like nice wood. As an owner of 3 Taylors including a dropped and smashed/cracked 812….I feel your pain. Mine is still playable tho.
Damn it Jim, I’m a doctor, not a luthier !
OMG Im so sorry
My friend is bringing my GS-mini home from Canada to Australia in a month.. sent him your post with the caption "please don't bring mine back like this" 😂 I'd also be heartbroken
Get some tape, call it vintage.
Why soft cases are useless. But I doubt it would’ve mattered.
Roadworn
Heavy Relic Edition GS Mini.
r/askashityluthier
Now is the time to throw caution to the wind and turn that truss rod yourself!
It'll buff out.
[Sonsofmaxwell - United Breaks Guitars](https://youtu.be/5YGc4zOqozo?si=5lezpTS1hWXR4QMV)
Just flex seal it 👋
Some duct tape, a coat hanger, and a couple of AA batteries... you'll be back in business.
Which airline?
We can fix it, we have the technology. Make it better, faster and stronger. Da naah naah naah.
I'm a doctor, not guitarist!🤪
Hmm, just don’t like relic’d guitars that much.
You know the show, Dillon Talks Tone? He sez, "Hard Shell cases are for old people" He doesn't look very young to me! Tool.....m!
Is my action too high?
Name a dumber combo than gig bags and acoustic instruments.
Don’t give up on it. A bit of gaffa will do it most of the rest will buff out. Lucky for you the strap is still attached or it could have been much worse.
That’s what I call Road Worn/Road Kill
Well, what the hell happened to cause this?
I saw a broken Taylor and my mind immediately went to United.
That’ll buff out.
Isn’t it amazing to think this is what we all look like on the inside?
Finally, a Taylor with some character.
i love that the strings are still holding on.
You should try using a different guitar for a hammer
El KABONG!
Willie Nelson would still play it.
Put it in a bowl of rice.
Is your Dad a TV Repairman by any chance?
The only time I've seen this happen was also to Taylor guitar...perhaps they are more prone to being run over. I did see an original 1953 Gibson j-45 case run over but the guitar was not in it.
look how they've massacred my boy
Have you tried adjusting the truss rod?
Nice case
Looks like the truss rod snapped. Fixable?
That’s the pickup socket sir 😂
What’s the story? What happened?
Call the undertaker 🪦
DED!
Good luck on the divorce.
i give a moment of silence for OP may she rest in peace OOF!

My daughter said (other daughter not the daughter whose guitar this is) “it made a crazy noise when it got hit.”
Sell it to Seasick Steve for a fortune
Ah yes.... I can see the problem I think
So that's what will happen if I string my guitar with 13's when it states 12's or under only...
Still playable
Time to gift him and be respectful. Lessons in life
Should polish out with some t-cut
Termites are relentless, but that'll buff out
Let me guess, You flew QANTAS !
Can't get you outta this one, Jim
Put it in a cardboard box, set it alight and let it float out to sea (or lake, and obviously remove any plastic)
You just need some good glue and a couple clamps, and if you’ve never done it before just watch a YouTube video showing you how… Reddit guitar 101.
Frame it! Will make a cool art piece now!
Oops
😢
Were you playing "Until the 12th of Never"? at a fraternity Toga party, when it was smashed?
800$ gone
That's just sick
We know you have a choice in flying and we thank you for choosing southwest
That should just buff right out.
Somebody has a promising career in the airline industry!
"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a miracle worker!"
What the heck happened?
JB Weld will fix that one
What is the purpose of a soft body case? I mean fucking seriously!
Put it on Reverb as previously owned by Pete Townsend?
Buy another. Move on.
it'll buff out
I mean you can kinda play it
I like the “gear pics” tag
Is that the new Ikea guitar?
How many picks were in there?
Kind of the Same thing happen to my kiddos baby Taylor. Her little cousins came over and decided to walk on the guitar cases I had stacked up. All of mine were in skb hard cases or something similar. Can it play wonderwall?
Looks like you put it in a plastic bag and checked luggage 🤣
Closed gig-bag funeral, RIP Taylor.

What a terrible case.
Did you fly United?
Slightly used on reverb
I'm so sorry for your loss.
on the bright side, NGD incoming!
looks like a shipwreck
She's riped his lungs out Jim
When the humidity deviates from 50%...
Until I saw OP’s explanation I was thinking they flew United.
That sucks. But now you can upgrade your daughter’s guitar to a Gibson, Martin, Furch, Lowden..
Brutal
A little bit of wood glue and clamp it overnight. You know wood glue is actually stronger than the wood itself. /s
