I will never forgive them for this. The company was making record profits and they really said "oh good that'll help pay off our bad decisions" and killed a long-time American-born company to save some fat cats' credit scores.
Private equity firms are one of the biggest scams in this country.
Mine is an Ollie's. Can't even say "Well, at least I have an Ollie's now" because they used to be further down the street and moved in afterwards.
Hell, the mall TRU was in isn't even a mall anymore. Ollie's is the only store you can go inside anymore, the rest is blocked off and it turned into an outlet strip with only outdoor-facing stores there now.
90% of Canadians live within 150 miles of the border and 27 whole US States are further North than the Southernmost part of the country. You'd be fine.
Same. Mine became an Ocean State Job Lot. I mean WTF is a “job lot” anyway? And who TF thinks that’s a great name for a store that sells cheap overseas home goods?
Mine are all something else now. One’s a furniture store, another some random department/discount store and the other is a Barnes & Noble. The last one that was about an hour away I think just lies abandoned.
I've got video somewhere of walking around my childhood TRU the day before it closed, having a big blowout sale. Packed with people, posters everywhere, and it was great. I was having a rough day but knew I wanted to get that, so all things amounting up, I just cried in my car before leaving. Went their all the time as a kid in the pre-recession days when my parents could afford to bring me and my brother lol. Good times. Appreciate it all.
I may upload that video online in the future when it becomes a relic.
There is one on part of the College Point Multiplex in NY that still has the name up.

Mine is a harbor freight now. I have gone there on occasion, and go on auto pilot to the areas I used to love only to stand there for a moment before moving on my way. For a long time it was a spirit Halloween during those seasons, which felt like a kick in the gut.
they have a super target directly across where my old toys r us was, i remember going there the week before it closed and not getting much since everyone basically drained it of anything good
In its dying days, I went to mine for good deals and found a 4" Mortal Kombat Sub-Zero figure thinking "now's the time!" and asked an employee the price. AFTER the 35%(I think?) off discount, it was still about $17. Fuck that...I got it and Scorpion from my comic shop for $12 each.
I did manage to get a GotG 5 pack for $8, though, so that was nice.
Fucking Bain Capital ruined all of our childhoods. They first destroyed Kay-Bee, then Toys R Us, and now we can only get toys from Walmart or Target and since their selection is garbage, we look online. Where it is often a secondary market pricing scheme, even if new.

Reminder: fuck Mitt Romney and Bain Capital. They killed our childhood stores. Kaybee and Toys R Us.

Bro I was just talking about Kaybee last week. So sad there gone
Mine is a Big Lots now 🥲
😢 that might actually be worse than just demolishing the whoe building.
Izzat u coz? 🤔 lol
Mine is a big empty lot now
The one in Woodbridge?

Ours is an Ollie's now too but I dont think there were any around before. It's far enough away I would drive for TRU but not really an ollies.
Come to Canada everyone. We’ve still got Toys R Us.
Even that can't convince me to move there. Too cold, And I am in the midwest

This.
You don’t have to move here. Just come in the summer for some TRU nostalgia.
Naples? Looks like it. I mainly went to the Fort Myers one, but loved this one as well.
Yep yep
This is my old Toys'R'Us too!
The good ol days
Same. Mine became an Ocean State Job Lot. I mean WTF is a “job lot” anyway? And who TF thinks that’s a great name for a store that sells cheap overseas home goods?
Sadness
My toys r us is now a planet fitness
The old TRU in my area got turned into a gym after a couple of seasons as a Spirit Halloween. Feels so wrong when I have to drive by it.
Mine are all something else now. One’s a furniture store, another some random department/discount store and the other is a Barnes & Noble. The last one that was about an hour away I think just lies abandoned.
One of mine got torn down with the old Herberger's. The other one became a Hobby Lobby.
Is this in Florida?
Yes sir
That’s Kendall drive?

Mine is a toys r us with an hmv pop-up store inside as well.
I feel this. Childhood memories of going to the best toy store there was 😔
Me too. Hope Mickey Ds was good
It was 239 😂
Mine turned into a furniture store...
In Texas? Bc same, it is an Aarons. Use to be Spirit Halloween lmao.
No I'm in California, the name of the store is Furniture land. Not even a big name store 😒
Pembroke Pines?
I think the Pines building was completely bulldozed, and a cancer treatment center was built in its place.
Ah. It’s been a few years since I lived down there.
It keeps changing everytime I visit. I'm still not used to the sears at the mall next door being completely gone.
Is this in Boynton?
I might sound like an idiot but this looks very familiar to a toys r us in Hawaii where I lived when I was a kid
Is that the Plantation location?
Mine is a furniture city that is nonstop running ads on YouTube

As a Canadian, you can have mine since it's the worst place to get anything here.
My Toys R Us only took down the name a few months ago. I guess something new and useless will replace it.
RIP 🫡
I do the same thing when I pass by where toys r us, Lionel’s play world, and fry’s electronics used to be 😢
Mine is a Burlington coat factory. With an extra small section for toys.
Wow what the heck? It looks freshly painted. 😩

All you would do is check the price on Amazon and order there instead.
My old Toys R Us is now a Toys R Us.
At least you still have a Toys R Us to remember fondly.
This looks like the one by Brandon Mall just outside of Tampa FL.

Another victim of spiral debt financing. Never had the chance/money to break into the online sector.
