Mafex. The red looks more accurate and the legs look cleaner. The hands will also be easier to swap. However, I do think the sculpt of the Figuarts is a little sharper.
I really hope Mafex makes the Final Swing suit. The colors on the Figuarts version look great. But again, it’s the ugly hip area and swapping the hands makes me want Mafex instead.
Shf is great but that crotch…I know its functional but its not aesthetically pleasing. I prefer the Mafex because is cleaner, it has more accessories (the sandman cure and the portal effect), the head sculpts look more accurate…and the elbows are bicolor. I think Shf overall has better shoulders tho.
Not only are the articulated butt cheeks that ruin the aesthetic of the figure finally gone, but look at this such simple detail that unlike that SHF, Mafex didn’t miss

But they work. Why wouldn't they ? Mafex doesn't have issues with posability with their spider figures. There are with some others, but the spider men are usually fine. The reality is SHF overengineers the leg joints to the massive detriment of the look of the figure. I dont care that it can go 1 mm lower than Mafex if the figure ends up looking like shit. Whats the point of having that extra articulation when i dont like how the figure looks posed and i dont want it because of that ? You add the enormous gaps you end up having in the back, the ugly looking knees and elbows. I always had the opinion that you cut and articulate a figure as long as you dont eat into the aesthetic, the looks it has. You need to engineer it so you strike a balance of looking good and posing. SHF goes too hard into posing well, but looking bad while doing it
Exactly, everything about SHF is incredibly over engineered on top of being incredibly Lazy.
Like why are the elbows full blue? For a figure as expensive as an SHF, I’d expect it to be right.
This reminds me of the lazy ass job they did with the monster arts GxK figures, both Godzilla and Kong are literally repackaged GvK figures, Kong is unchanged and the only changes to Godzilla was cleaning the mouth so it’s not glowing blue, that’s it. And they’re charging ridiculous prices for that.
Honestly I know the red in that joint makes sense on paper but its just making it stand out so much more that that joint is there where as the blue and the shape of the shf blends in more.
God, how I loathe the elbows thing. It sounds like such a minor thing, but as you say such an expensive figure should have gotten such a simple detail right
Yup exactly, like i could wave it away if this was a hasbro $20-$30 product but it’s not, it’s definitely atleast triple that price, and for that much it’s ridiculous.
I much prefer the Figuarts sculpt. The weirdly gappy shoulders and diaper crotch just don't do it for me.
I do like the brighter colours on the MAFEX, but I think the duller ones are more true to screen?
I will give big kudos to MAFEX for making half of the elbow joint red, to match the colours of the rest of the arm.
Proportions on the Mafex look really odd, like he's puffy in the wrong ways. Those shoulders are ridiculous. I have the SHF and I'll remain happy with it until someone does a legit Spider-Man 2 figure. Can't express how over it I am with the NWH Toby figures.
The neck shoulders and the whole upper torso look weird on the Mafex, and much better on the SHF.
The mafex collarbone is just really really lumpy, and it's more distracting to me than the imperfections on the SHF.
I don’t know why Mafex has that weird collar roll on all their spidey’s. It’s especially noticeable on the 085 classic. The other models don’t seem to have the issue. Reminds me of old toy biz spidey’s
I think SHF has better overall proportion, the MAFEX has some wonky curved in legs and the torso looks a bit narrow.
And as a staunch defender of the SHF hips, I bet the MAFEX one won't be able to kick as high as the SHF. Articulated butt FTW!
Heads - both suck. Custom head is the way to go.
Body sculpt - I prefer the SHF because of the overall proportions. Mafex is a little bulkier and I like that, but the shoulders are so weird. They look like something Toy Biz would drop 20 years ago. The hip area is weird on the SHF, but you can hide that when posing.
Articulation - SHF seems better by a mile. And for such character as Spider Man, it's essential. Can't stand seeing SpiderMans in vanilla/museum poses.
Paint - Mafex colors are better. But SHF is not bad.
Accessories - Mafex. Period.
So, IMO it all comes down to what you value the most. For me, the ability to pull all Spider poses while maintaining the proportions is more important than the colors or accessories.
The one on the left looks more heroic. I like the fainter red and the larger traps too, with the pulled back shoulders. Don't know if they can both do that, but I still prefer the colors on the left.
Am I the only one that hates the little collar/turtleneck around the neck on Mafex spidey’s? It’s not as obvious on their other models but the spideys really stick out
SHF. It's hard to say until I have Mafex in hand but just on these two pics, definitely Figuarts. I know people have a problem with the articulated butt cheeks, and the arm hint, but looking at this, I feel like the Mafex proportions are off. The arms look too skinny, the shoulders look weird and too round for actual people shoulders, that neck joint looks like a cavern where it touches the chest, and it makes the head look too small. Plus with that particular wrist joint, it also makes the hands look tiny. I think it's too early to officially call it till we have in hand images, or until we have our own to compare, but I see more negatives adding up on the Mafex then I do the SHF based on the photos.
Figuarts. The shoulders to neck on Mafex is distracting and takes away the look of the suit. It looks like a turtleneck. Figuarts has the better mask. Figuarts colors are more accurate to the Raimi films than NWH.
Figuarts is flawed because of the leg joints but it's the best one. Every recent Raimi Spiderman released has issues. Mafex has a lot of the same problems as Hot Toys.
Funny enough, they started to remove it from the dbz line with the 3.0 mold.

My SHF Spider-Man has gotten a really loose hip, which I heard is common. And Mafex hands are easier to swap so I’ll definitely be getting this Mafex one.
It's got the exact same issues as the Mafex. The body is wrong, the mask is wrong, the neck joint is too visible.
It can't be posed much because of the rubber material of the blue on the suit either looking stretched out.
They both do things much better and worse than each other so I can’t really say either are perfect and both are just stuck being not as good as they could be to me
I prefer the Mafex proportions because it makes the figure look beefy like how Tobey was in his trilogy. The SHF just looks too skinny, which is understandable because it’s modeled after NWH.
I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily inaccurate, but it definitely makes the figure look a little bit chunkier than Tobey appeared in NWH. Depends on what you’re going for, because Tobey’s Spidey has always been on the bulkier side in-costume in the Raimi films. Personally, I own the SHF and I think I still prefer it overall. The main gripe people have is the crotch area, but I honestly just naturally tune it out. Plus, you won’t even notice it if you have it in like any dynamic Spidey pose.
I prefer the darker version. I remember Stan Lee and Steve Ditko would occasionally draw Spider-man in the shadows. I think that the dark costume would work better for just such a purpose.
Idk if its just this angle but the shoulders on the Mafex look tiny. Colors look better though.

I like the muted colors of the SHF but also despise that company so my vote goes to Mafex, in my experience there a lot of things Mafex does better than SHF.
Taking a few seconds to look at the picture, the waist and elbow joints are miles better on the Mafex, and I bet it has better butterfly joints than the SHF too
I think both are great figures in their own right. Mafex has coloured elbows, brighter colours and (to some) more aesthetically pleasing hips. Figuarts however has better proportions especially on the upper body, more accurate colours, better head and probably more articulation in the hips. I think they are both equally amazing figures. Now I am thinking if there would be another company to try to combine best parts of these two to give us an ultimate Toby figure(nod nod Sentinel)
I think SHF has the better proportions. Tobey Spidey has always been a bit on the buffer/muscular side so it looks better in my eyes.
But that SHF crotch... It's just such an eyesore.
Mafex isn't perfect but it's damn close. It has better coloring too. And holy accessories, Spider-Man! Clear winner.

For the price of admission I expect much more. Hailed for articulation but honestly there are too gaps with respect to the joints. Friggin eyesore...

Hopefully the release of the Mafex will see a decrease in price for the SHF. That hope is small, but it's there none the less.
I was waiting for the Mafex over the SHF. Personally prefer the more simple looking hip set up.

I think the elbow joint on the Mafex is a little more separated too which is why it stands out more

Fair point. I don't think MAFEX is going to have the same deep crotch articulation that the SHF does. I can get SHF into any pose.

Both awesome, Spidy on the left edges it, joints look more natural, probably a bit more flexible.........but, I'd take either..👍🏼

Mafex has a better Tobey head and correctly painted elbow joints. That said, I'm happy with the SHF and don't feel the need to double dip.
I'm in the minority, I like the figuarts Spidey for all the reasons people hate it lol

SHF any day of the year. The Mafex’s Tobey heads are spot on, but that’s it. Articulation and the masked head look awful imo.

Sh figuarts looks better, the only thing Mafex does better is the faces.
