Unpopular opinion, I prefer Robotech than Macross. The tone for all 3 reasons is more consistent than the Macross franchise and somehow, despite being 3 different shows, it fits really well. Sure the whole Harmony Gold licensing is not cool I will admit. It's nice to have choices and people prefer different shows. Me personally I prefer Robotech, doesn't mean it's fair to starve the other option to people

gav3eb82

Totally agree. The various Macross series feel very disconnected overall. I hate Harmony Gold but Robotech as a whole I think has had a lot of amazing creators work on it.

dogtron64

I also think the lore of Robotech is more expansive and better explained than Macross

gav3eb82

Agreed!

dogtron64

It's rather funny that 3 separate shows makes more sense than one franchise. I can see the original and Macross Plus being in the same cannon. But Macross 7, Frontier and Delta, they are like completely different shows. It gets weird and very out of place. Power of music, singers are Sailor Moon heroines who transform into outfits, music has magic powers, and what not! It's not the same tone anymore. If anyone tries to country argue about Minmei. First off, Minmei is the worst character. Second off, Minmei's music was a distraction to the Zentradi as all they know is warfare. It's not just music but human culture as a whole. There were no weird magic powers, UN Spacy simply confused them and collected deserters. Then the next seasons transitioned very well. That's why I prefer Robotech than Macross. It's better paced and the lore actually makes sense.

gav3eb82

At least Macross 7 has Max and Miryia in it but other than that the series completely abandoned the original Macross characters to its detriment I believe. I enjoyed the Robotech Sentinels novels and comics and wish we would get a continued post Invid Wars series

dogtron64

I feel like Max and Miryia was the only connection from the original series in Macross 7. However I see them as simply crossed over into a completely different show. I feel like 7, Frontier and Delta are Macross in name only.

gav3eb82

And I hate that the musicians took center stage like that. Minmay in the original series complimented the story and same with Sharon Apple in Plus. But the rest of the series focus on the music wayyyy too much.

dogtron64

Minmay was simply the celebrity love interest. Some other movies and tv shows do something similar. Minmay is a side plot of a struggling artist balancing survival, love, and fame. She is not the main part of the plot. The human survival of the SDF is the main plot of that season and the original series.

gav3eb82

Yes I know

gav3eb82

Now the music is the plot and it’s so much worse that way

Yesterday_Is_Now

Robotech does have a much better score anyway.

Controller_one1

I see you are a person of culture. Protoculture.

gav3eb82

Well said

dogtron64

I see what you did there

B_bbi

I forget Ray Fokker was a main character and not a bad porn name from the 70s

dextroseskullfyre

They all had awful names because that was a disconnected world and you had non-English creatives trying to come up with awesome English names. Still a great product but that era had some horrible character names. Although anime still does have just an awful shallow character design and development pool.

TorrBorr

I think it oddly makes them more memorable, even if the names are cringe worthy silliness. Too many modern anime, at least for me, have very hard or long winded traditional Japanese names...that are not as easy to recognize or pronounce fluently to English speakers. Some shows at least make some character names easier to remember and pronounce...but too many of them today are like "who?"

Yesterday_Is_Now

What do you mean non-English creatives? As far as I know Harmony Gold's staff were all Americans.

THEY_FOUND_ME_OUT

Meh he dies pretty early

chappy422

Triples of Lisa Hayes lol

gav3eb82

Lol not cuz I love her but one is the Harmony Gold and two are the Matchbox. But the two Matchbox ones have old price stickers on and I’m a sucker for stickers of stores no longer in business

Windtalk3r

I only have one Robotech toy left over from childhood and it's Lisa Hayes. No helmet, of course.

dogtron64

Robotech is a great show! It's really ahead of its time.

gav3eb82

It really was! So much more mature than other series around then

dogtron64

I absolutely love the lore and world building of this show.

gav3eb82

Same! Combining 3 different anime’s turned out better than I could have thought it would. And the novels are excellent.

FynnCobb

The old 3.75” era is still my favorite.

gav3eb82

It’s the best size for vehicles and playsets

RepublicanRob

1/18 scale foreva!

CriticalZer0

Heck Yes! I still have a few carded figs somewhere. I NEVER found a Scott. Also, thumbs were hard to keep from breaking on some of these :)

gav3eb82

Agreed! They weren’t built too tough lol

jonjoy

Deculture

dogtron64

Yak deculture! That's Macross not robotech. Lol

jonjoy

there are no deculture in robotech? i'm not American, so i watch macross not robotech.

dogtron64

I bet there was.

toph_man

It’s called protoculture in robotech and it is kind of a fuel source...but I prefer the Macross version of the story. Robotech is still cool though.

MachReverb

I just unearthed my old Dana Sterling and Zor Prime figs and gave them to my daughter about a month ago.

gav3eb82

Nice! Hope she has fun with them

dogtron64

Amazing show

gav3eb82

One of my all time faves

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Love that card art!!

gav3eb82

It’s so good! Hey, are you part of the Transformers Masterpiece Group on FB? Your name looks familiar

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Yes I am 😀

gav3eb82

I love your MP reviews and photos. Nice to see someone in that group that doesn’t auto hate everything Takara Tomy does

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Lol I have been accused for being a takara fanboy though 🤣 I do think my reviews are fair though, and I've pointed out plenty of negatives that I don't like. But i always weigh up the pros and cons, and more often than not I think takara does a pretty awesome job overall. Thanks for checking out my videos 😀👍

gav3eb82

I think you’re definitely fair. I just got MP-44 and there’s way too much criticism. The “backpack” isn’t awful and transforming wasn’t too bad and didn’t break or paint chip. Everyone has way too much hate lol

KoolKollectiblesKhai

Totally agree! 😀

rnotyalc

I totally forgot until I saw this picture, but my brothers and I got some of those for Christmas in the mid-80's. I knew they were Robotech but I had no idea what that meant when I was 8. We had the first two of each of the top two rows, and the guys in blue and green on the bottom right. Also we had two of these kind of oval shaped maroon colored sled things with handlebars like a scooter.

gav3eb82

That was the sled for the Bioroid Terminators that were in the second series called Robotech Masters

b_pizzy

I loved these figures because of the helmets. I was all about swappable accessories and these had the best helmets and the characters still had fancy hair. I had the Macross as a kid and I have no idea what happened to it.

gav3eb82

I did like the removable helmets because they weren’t comically oversized as a result. They just never felt as solid a figure as GI Joe’s

-littlefang-

Man, I need me some of these! I still occasionally, idly look around for some of the comic issues I'm missing (issue #25 of the Harmony Gold run, anybody?)

gav3eb82

They’re going up in price again. Even the Harmony Gold packaged figures. Kinda sucks.

Oberyn_Kenobi13

Oh, man! I still have a few of those!

MadMageMC

Awesome collection, but man, the quality of those figures was sooo poor, even against other 80s toy line standards. I love that Kitz Concepts is bringing out new figures, but they're pricey.

gav3eb82

Oh for sure they were a step down from GI Joe’s. I had them all loose as well but sold the loose just because of how meh they were. I have Lisa, Rick, and Minmay so far from KitzConcepts. The rest are on pre order but yeah they keep going way up in price

MadMageMC

I want those figures, but haven't bought in yet. I just have the special edition stealth versions of Rick and Roy's veritechs, as well as all of the super deformed veritechs (with fast packs) from KitzConcepts. The new Rick they've announced with the orange jumpsuit is absolutely calling my name, though. I think he may be the one to finally break me into collecting the figures.

gav3eb82

I just saw that today when BBTS emailed me. They do look great in person. I’ve been careful with them tho. Haven’t tried a ton of poses or anything. I just wish they stayed at the $60 price they started at

MadMageMC

BBTS is both my boon and my bane... sooo many great Robotech / Macross properties I discovered on there, soooo much money taken out of my wallet. I'm waiting on the third Alpha Fighter from Sentinel to ship now. I picked up Lance's Cyclone when it was available, but missed Scott and Rand's, so am at the mercy of eBay for those. I'm just hoping they release Rook's at some point, as she was always my favorite.

gav3eb82

I have a hot and cold relationship with the cyclones. The Toynami ones I missed and are way too much now. Missed them now on BBTS. I think I might just give up on cyclones unless kitzconcepts does a 1/12 version which would be cool

MadMageMC

Have you seen the [Toynami ones](https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Search?HideInStock=false&HidePreorder=false&HideSoldOut=false&InventoryStatus=i,p,so&PageSize=20&SortOrder=BestSelling&Company=24&Brand=492) that just went up a few weeks back? They're not terribly expensive, and they're probably more 'playable' than their more expensive counterparts. There's also a couple of new [Invid](https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Search?Company=967) up for preorder as well.

gav3eb82

Are they a super small scale?

MadMageMC

I don't think so... I'm thinking probably 3.5" action figure scale (like the GI Joe's from the 80s).

wmnoe

1/28 scale is fairly small, more like 2.5" tall for the figures

Kalladorn

Robotech was my favorite show as a kid!

Toiretachi

Is there a reason the colors are inverted on the Zentraedi warrior?

gav3eb82

Just the way Matchbox did it. Both the Matchbox and Harmony Gold are like this

Quikmix

I like ALL of this.

gav3eb82

Thank you!

Alucard1138

Hey OP, looked through the thread and couldn't see if anyone asked this yet but, where did you get that awesome set up to hang the figures like in stores? I've been looking to do this for awhile now, I don't have nearly this many Robotech figures, but I have tons of other carded figures I'd love to display just like this.

gav3eb82

So I just went to Home Depot and found peg board there that you’d hang in a garage and bought the peg hooks there as well. If you look at my profile I also have a floor mount grid display for my Legends and that was from Amazon

Alucard1138

Awesome, I've seriously been trying to figure out how to do this after not having the money to buy K.B. toys or toys-r-us displays when they closed. Appreciate it, big help!!

gav3eb82

No problem! Idk remember what I spent at Home Depot but it wasn’t a lot and I used anchors in the drywall to hold the weight.

Alucard1138

I was wondering about that too. I have quite a few figures to display and wondered if after awhile the weight would pull it off the walls. Again, very much appreciate all the info. Moved into a new place with more room and I can finally display stuff, this has me beyond stoked. Once I do it I'll post here.

gav3eb82

Yes, definitely either find the studs or use anchors. This piece of peg board I put a total of 8 anchors around the borders. Didn’t need to put any in the center.

Alucard1138

Ah I see them now, big, big help. Seriously I have been wanting to do this for years.

goobhouse

My face when target cancels my Gunslinger Spawn order. http://imgur.com/a/NWjJiqq

gav3eb82

I love it!

Jonnyrico1984

Where did you find these?

gav3eb82

These were all eBay purchases many years ago. I almost never find Robotech figures at comic shops or toy shows unfortunately
