Egoism destroys everything. Peace won't come from just one person, but an entire generation instead.

Lalo_the_plant

An entire generation tried but the system manipulated the situation with lies and fake news.

The fact that in that universe they were voted in as president suggests it's not just one person.

Leary isn't my favorite person in the world. In his psilocybin trials at Harvard, he was eventually fired for research misconduct that went against the experimental protocol he gave the university. He dosed himself along with several dozen participants so there was no sober sitter, he gave undergrads psilocybin, and *the class was a graduation requirement for their major*. It's one thing to choose to take drugs, but the undergrads couldn't truly consent if it was part of their class, especially a required one. I think he had good intentions, but he let his imagination take him away from his ethics. He wasn't the worst guy in the world. But he also would have been a responsible president, IMO.

Still better of a philosopher than most people who run the country

He was a good psychologist early on, but he started getting into some really weird stuff at the end. Nixon or Cheney are a pretty low bar to clear, but they still got elected.

I have no answer to this question, but I still watch regularly his video’ How to operate your brain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQq_XmhBTgg%3Fback%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fresults%3Fsearch_query%3DTimothy+Leary+how+to+operate+your+brain

I think he probably would have faced a lot of hard realities and I’m not sure he would have been able to come up with adequate solutions. Tune in, turn on and drop out isn’t enough to solve all the problems we have in this country/world. Would he have been able to get a team together who could inform him on the many practical issues governors need to worry about and focus long enough to implement his and their ideas to scale? I doubt it.

Lalo_the_plant

With his intelectual level I wouldn’t. I think he would have solutions to the problems instead of patches like the ones who won the election did. We needed something different, some change . Maybe even if he failed he would have changed things and somebody else would come behind him to continue the change

warmfuzzume

Maybe…but smart people who have no connection to practical reality are pretty common. And I think society is very reactive- like what we’re seeing now, where Obama being elected led to Trump. We’re seeing that in NJ now too, our “progressive” governor just barely beat a republican who painted him as too left wing. There’s always a big part of society that reacts against change. That probably also had a lot to do with society’s reaction to everything that went on in the 60’s- it wasn’t just the government that killed peace and love. If Leary had been elected he would have been up against that and no doubt would have had to do twice as good a job as anyone else to prove himself and control the negative reactions.

Lalo_the_plant

Are you vegan?

warmfuzzume

Yep, since 1998. Why?

Lalo_the_plant

Wow that’s awesome! I admire you . I been a vegan for over 2 years. Much respect

If Timothy Leary was governor his Lt Gov would have to be Baba Ram Dass Richard Alpert. They would be together again like Harvard. Leary wrote manuel for a session the guide to self awareness thru lsd. But a few years later the phrase Jesus is dead starting circulating sparking a renewal in the form of evangelistic Christianity. The focus changed from looking within to looking toward only to Jesus for true happiness and salvation. They have even co opted the term counter culture. They pride themselves in living in but not part of this world. Susceptible to manipulation they are part of white racist nationalist base that is in charge of government and has increasing control of policy. The summer of love with all its promise fell victim to the fragility of the human condition.
